Looks like something the Navy will show during basic training and mandatory formations.

Reefer Madness was funny because pot's not that bad or even close to how it was depicted in the movie.

Bath Salts aren't good and have no redeeming social value, IMHO.

Headline: "The Navy's Anti-Bath Salts Video Is Even More Ridiculous Than You'd Think"

Reality: The video is a lot less ridiculous than you'd think, if you've seen past Navy general military training videos.  Think of corporate training videos, without the threat of losing one's job over lack of talent.

There's been very little research done on the compounds commonly found in bath salts. I don't know how some of you have decided that they are in fact really bad and that this isn't just your usual anti drug propaganda.

Maybe it is a dangerous drug. However I'm a bit skeptical considering this whole bath salt danger craze started with the face eater, and we all know how that turned out.

truth is that they really aren't all that dangerous, at least any more so than prescribed meds or illicit drugs. but you MUST whip the media into a frenzy because we can't have the kids getting high, now can we?

Bath salts are probably not that good for you. However, they aren't going to turn you into a face eating zombie. They will give you a crappy buzz for 20 minutes or so.

I don't know about an epidemic, but they were all written in the first place with "hard to test for drug designed and sold solely to get around testing and existing laws, which is also not merely one drug but a variety of different chemical compounds were not found by a basic blood test that wasn't even sure which of the many things called bath salts should be tested for". At least iirc.

the amount of bath salts that the average person might consume is pretty much about as dangerous as taking a lortab, smoking a pack of cigarettes or drinking a redbull. any of those things might kill you.

the media frenzy is just that about bath salts - a frenzy designed to spread fear, uncertainty and doubt because the moral majority is scared to death that someone might get high.

I am not saying they are SAFE. but what really is? alcohol is certainly not "safe". Neither is morphine. Anything you do in that area is a calculated risk.

so snort some bath salts if you want. sure, you might die, but you might die from drinking a couple redbull or by taking some Excedrin migraine with some allergy meds.

you probly won't die.

I'd be less concerned about the propaganda and more concerned about the fact that there is no research in on it yet. They're snorting and injecting random Chinese chemicals into their bloodstreams.

Again, do you have a citation, personal experience, or what?

Because there isn't even one single chemical formula for bath salts to begin with, so I don't see why you are speaking as some authority on the matter here.

Now, maybe I'm just misreading your posts because you said "at least no more so than other drugs" which is a pretty vague thing. Is it no more dangerous than pot? No more dangerous than aspirin taken at proper doses? No more dangerous than random lithium injections followed by a speedball?

You can get some pretty damn dangerous results if we are going include the far end of the scope.

frepnog: so snort some bath salts if you want. sure, you might die, but you might die from drinking a couple redbull or by taking some Excedrin migraine with some allergy meds.

Or are we only talking about death and not a potential for brain damage and permanent results?

As for drinking a couple redbull, that makes about as much sense as this: "Playing russian roulette is as dangerous as walking down the street: each way you might die" given that the odds you damage yourself from a couple redbull is astronomically low.

frepnog: you probly won't die.

'Bath Salts' are any of a variety of weird(ish) stimulants. The reality is that most of them were created in a lab and tested on animals, but nobody has much idea if they're safe for humans. Things like MDPV, MDPPP and variants of those.

In the interests of harm reduction - when dealing with weird stims and synthetic cannabinoids and all the other "research chemicals", don't buy them from the gas station! Buy from someone who will sell you a marked substance, not a blend of unknowns with a trade name, read about this substance, read about what people take that doesn't get them put in hospital, get a milligram scale and measure out the dose accurately. Don't re-dose. Don't overdose. Don't be afraid to call an ambulance - even with illegal substances it's better to get a record than to get dead. People do use these things without going crazy, but really you're better off not doing it.

That all said the video was hilarious. The guy would have been valium'd out the wazoo as soon as he was taken into treatment, and would have woken up a couple of days later wondering what happened.

Pretty sure that turned out not to be bath salts, in fact the internet thinks that Only Marijuana Found In Face-Eater Toxicology Tests, so actually maybe marijuana does do that.

2013-01-03 04:27:57 PM
"The problem today is that there is an almost an infinite number of chemical substances out there that can trigger unusual behavior," said Dr. Bruce Goldberger, Professor and Director of Toxicology at the University of Florida.
Goldberger said that the medical examiner's office in Miami is known for doing thorough work and that he's confident they and the independent lab covered as much ground as possible. But it's nearly impossible for toxicology testing to keep pace with new formulations of synthetic drugs.

"...The challenge today for the toxicology lab is to stay on top of these new chemicals and develop methodologies for them, but it's very difficult and very expensive." Goldberger said. "There is no one test or combination of tests that can detect every possible substance out there."

If you want first hand accounts of almost anything then check out erowid. Bluelight is another good resource. WARNING: You will read drug-positive things on both of those sites, even about bath salts. Hell, even about heroin. The data is not really scientific, it's anecdotal, but people are pretty honest. You will also see reports of things gone horribly wrong. Obviously the folk that die from these things don't write reports, but some of the ones that barely survive do. If you want to read some really scary stuff read about jimson weed, datura, brugmansia and belladonna.

Who would snort a huge line of something like bath salts, and then go meet up with their straight girlfriend for a round of bowling? That guy has much deeper issues than the drugs he chooses. Also, the quantity that came in that package would have set him back about $1000. No one buys cannisters full of bath salts.

I have the same opinion about bath salts as I do meth - it's an ugly drug that you're stupid to be using - but anti-drug PSA's were never known to be fact-based or subtle.

I feel like the movie would've been more effective if the music continued over the boring psychiatrist.

Also, the military tests people for smoking weed, and they'll dishonorably discharge you if you test positive. The military is merely reaping what they have sown.

Your first problem with bath salts is, you have no way of knowing what the ingredients are. Several different compounds are sold under this name.

Second, you have no way of knowing the purity, so it is impossible to calculate a safe dose.

Third, you don't know what impurities you are dealing with, or how those impurities may effect you.

Fourth, the long term effects of the drug have not been studied, and are not known. So far as I know, no responsible research is even underway.

That means, if you are f'ing with bath salts, you are taking more of a risk than you should take, or need to take, for the pleasure in question. And if you screw up, the medics might or might not know what to do about it.

Government propaganda is full of lies and unproven assumptions, but the bottom line truth is: bath salts are not advisable.

Smoke weed and drink beer, the results are known.

Sgt Otter: GBB: Can't watch videos at work. Does it start with "Hi. I'm Troy McClure. You might remember me from..."

A lot of military training videos start with "Hi, I'm Carl Weathers, you might remember me from..."

/Seriously
//"Hi Devil Dogs, Carl Weathers here..."

OMFG. Did he serve? If not, how could anyone take this shiat seriously?

/Maybe acting in Predator counts?

Awesomely hilarious. Nothing like doing bath salts at all. Video did make me want to briefly eat LSD again though.

Gothnet: Isildur: Er... except marijuana doesn't, y'know, have an apparent ability to cause people to EAT PEOPLE'S FACES?

Pretty sure that turned out not to be bath salts, in fact the internet thinks that Only Marijuana Found In Face-Eater Toxicology Tests, so actually maybe marijuana does do that.

Or it could be that at the time there was no way to detect bath salts with standard drug tests, or you just conveniently ignored that bit of news.
/or I foolishly took the bait, in which case, well played.

I ended up watching 30 seconds and then said WTF? Everyone was smiling, what's this got to do with bathsalts? Then I realised...

/I don't like bathsalts because they make me smell funny when I get out of the bath.

dudicon: The only thing they found in the system of the face eating guy was marijuana

You realize testing for a drug in someone's system has to be specific right? Finding a designer drug of an unknown type is like looking for a needle in a haystack and you don't know what a needle looks like.

ITGreen: Headline: "The Navy's Anti-Bath Salts Video Is Even More Ridiculous Than You'd Think"

Reality: The video is a lot less ridiculous than you'd think, if you've seen past Navy general military training videos.  Think of corporate training videos, without the threat of losing one's job over lack of talent.

THIS!

"The heatstroke monster" was obviously made by Navy personnel that were on bath salts....

Never mind the fact that the real drug menace that's affecting the live of countless vets are legal prescription pills. And alcohol.

It's really damn distressing to see vets doped out of their minds on massive dosages of farking addictive painkillers, benzodiazepines and anti-psychotics. Add PTSD into the mix and it's one hell of a lethal cocktail.

The Irresponsible Captain: People know what some of the drugs in the cocktail do, and it can cause permanent damage.
I would hope professors at a university would know what they're talking about.

Yet somehow not as bad as krokodil.
I strongly advise against GISing it's effects.

1. Ok, I don't know one dang thing about any recreational drugs, but I do know about crappy films. Used to run a movie room for a small sci-fi convention. Demon Hunters had better cinematography and much better demon makeup. Oh, and the gratuitous Navy chicks in low-cut uniforms? Classic low-budget soft pr0n used in pretty much everything on Syfy. This thing needs to be posted to the Found Footage website. It might even win an award.

2. Never mind the dude on the gurney. What was the medic smoking? Did anybody here look at his eyes? Kept rolling them toward the ceiling. He also had trouble choosing his words. Stoner. Kinda reminded me of the time I watched my housemates trip on acid. I would NOT want to be treated by that guy.

Except, from that article you linked....
______________________________
The statement did not address previously reported autopsy findings of what appeared to be undigested pills in Eugene's stomach, and an expert told the Associate Press marijuana alone was not likely to cause such an attack:

Also, that wasn't the only case:

Example 1: chunk of neighbor's face bitten off
Example 2: Guy growled at cops, yelled that he wanted to eat them (don't start) and snapped at them until they could get a bite mask on him. (Granted, in this case the guy also tested positive for cannabis, alcohol, and Xanax.)

I know a few guys who spend more than a little bit of time at the local VA Hospital picking up obscenely large prescriptions for all kinds of interesting stuff.
