I don't understand why the NFL feels the need to cater to the whining in favor of a guy who threatened to kill a ref.

*snerk*

Just for lulz, his replacement should toss Hall on the first play of the game.

Frankly, the Hawks a probably better off with Hall in the game.

Was there ever definitive evidence that this ref was going to officiate the game in the first place? The article doesn't say the NFL changed its mind...it just says the guy won't be officiating, after the little mini-media storm broke out. I haven't seen anything of merit to indicate they ever PLANNED to use the guy though.

Yeah, everyone was totally going to tune in to see random linesman vs DeAngelo Hall.

Did he actually sit down and compose a post game death threat, or was it a heat of the moment outburst during the game. I bet a lot of shiat gets said on the field, and I doubt D'ang'el'lo H'all would be able to pick this guy out of a line up today.

Really? I can sort of forgive a "heat of the moment" exchange like that if some WR dove at his legs well behind the play, not so much if volleyed at a geriatric zebra making a hand signal.

I don't really think it matters the context. You threaten to kill a zebra, you get tossed.

Yup, and if you toss a guy earlier in the year you're not going to officiate his playoff game. There are enough refs and games to go around. Like I said in the other thread the feeling that the officials are indeed impartial is important in even youth sports, in a league where millions of $$ will be bet on this game the NFL isn't going to let this happen.

I like how everyone here automatically jumps to the side of the NFL that Hall actually said that. Seriously, if he made a verbal threat on a refs life, do you think he'd only get a 30k fine? He obviously should've been run for taking off his helmet and showing up the ref by approaching him like that, but it's funny that the other camera angle he referenced that showed what the ref said never came out.

He doesn't have the greatest of track records and is known to lose his cool on the field, but he was absolutely right about Bobby Petrino back in his ATL days while everyone just wrote him off as a malcontent. So I'm not going to blindly roll with what the NFL is selling me here.

Its cool that both the Redskins and the Ravens are hosting playoff games Sunday in Maryland.

I'm a Ravens fan, I hate the Redskins, but its still cool.

You're right, refs always throw guys out of the game for shiat that happens all the time. Hall has punched other players in the head and not been ejected - so my guess is that, no, death threats aimed at officials are not common or considered to be momentary outbursts that should be let be.

As a Redskins fan it seems right in line with D Hall to actually verbally threaten an official. Million dollar talent, 10 cent head. When he's in the game he's a very good DB and causes all sorts of issues in the passing game. When he lets something get under his skin "which is about 80% of the time" he plays like shiat, takes stupid penalties for throwing punches, etc.

He's a dumbass, but the players make millions and make billions for the owners/league, so the official will be the one working another game.

Considering nobody this year has beat the Seahawks by 10, I'm going with no.

As a Raiders fan that saw Al Davis sign him to a ridiculous contract and then cut him after 8 games, I'm not going to overly defend the guy. My main point is that these refs aren't infallible and there were a lot of missing links to this story. Given Hall's history and reputation, I doubt Goodell would've simply let him off with a 30k fine if he approached the ref the way we he did and threatened to kill him.

It reminds me a bit of the Milton Bradley situation here in San Diego where he tore his ACL going after the umpire at first base. Immediately everyone blamed him for the situation until it later came out that the umpire called him a piece of shiat and then got suspended himself.

Officials in all of these sports like to target the guys with the bad reputations and often will try to bait them themselves, so it's hard for me to just take the what the leagues and these officials say as gospel without questioning it.

I have no idea what went on out there in the other Washington, but I'm going to watch the shiat out of this game. If they weren't playing the Seahawks, I'd be rooting for the 'Skins.

So would some DC fan educate me on why this is outrageous?

/ Go 'Hawks!

I'm with you. If the Seahawks weren't in it I'd probably root for the Washington. Maybe Minnesota.

This is what really sucks. We haven't lost by more than 7 all year. Whatever happens it's going to be a nail biter, and for the first time since our 05 season, I'm actually scared about this game. It means so much to both sides.

But holy fark will it be fun to watch. No Steelers, and no Giants...these playoffs are gonna rock.
