bunner: All systems work fine on paper and are, rabid "One True Way©" flag wavers notwithstanding, essentially just components that are utilized to meet whatever need that that given component is best applied to. Money, bureaucracies, capital and other accepted constructs in our society are not useless, in and of themselves. They are, like chainsaws, axes, pitchforks and fire, tools. They can also be weapons. The problem is, and always has been, user application error.

This post is one reason why I've favorited you.

bunner: Just Another OC Homeless Guy: The "progressives" chose poorly in embracing their concept of God Government as the be-all and end-all fount of progress.

As opposed to the wise conservatives who chose God Money™? The problem you're looking at gets a lot larger and simpler if you care you step back about three feet.

Hasty Generalization? Really? I thought better of you. Yes, of course, it is true in many cases - but so too with some liberals. For example, I'm quite good friends with a CPA who has his own office (his main business is taxes); we drink coffee together every morning at a local Starbucks, shoot the breeze, discuss politics, etc. He is a confirmed Obama supporter and "Big Government" liberal. I asked him once why. His response was that the bigger the government, the more complicated the taxes, and the more money he makes of off his clients.

And, of course, we all know that Big Money donors contribute to both parties.

And people like Al Gore, a confirmed liberal, seems to enjoy making lots of money off of carbon offsetand was desperate to sell his TV network to Al Jazeera before 1/1/13 to avoid increasing his tax liability.

There are money worshipers in both parties.

But I have a question: why is the worship of money, in and of itself, a bad thing? Isn't the point, rather, HOW you make money?

He's black, he's a Democrat, and the right is butt-farking insane. Of course they're going to try to demonize him for acting like a human being. We're talking about the political party who spent four years on a nonstop crusade to prove him not an American, put making him a one-term president over the recovery and well-being of America, and tried to make a scandal of what condiments he puts on his hamburgers. The right threw a tantrum over how the poor picked-on rich are being made to suffer at the same time they tried to pass a record number of anti-women and anti-gay laws.

If you're expecting any kind of intelligence and rationality from the right, you'll have more luck expecting Winnie the Pooh to build a subway station on Jupiter.

Much more important, Point the Second, is that you appear to START your debating technique with ad homenim (name calling). The only direction from there, son, is DOWN.

I understand that exactly, because neither do I.

What is curious is that you assume I am "right wing" (in the modern world an essentially meaningless term).

When I talk about the same behavior on "your" part I refer, in part, to the extremely well documented history of the "left" being sucked into the various cults of personality that the socialist world worships. Castro, Lenin, Mao, Hugo, Stalin.... need I go on? To a smaller and less evil extent: Gore, Kerry, Obama. Every single one of these farkers, on both "left" and "right" was/is a lying sack of shiat and a sociopath. I recognize that fact, it is as clear to me as the nose on my face. The "right" is blind to it for their people. And you jokers are blind to it on your end.

THAT'S my point.

I don't give a shiat. Actually, the more time a politician takes off, the better I like it. If we could figure out a way to give Congress 365 days off with pay, I'd be all for it.

I'm just cheerfully agreeing with natas6.0 that you idiots were doing precisely the same thing 6 years ago that the idiots on the "right" are doing today, and that when people point that little fact out the "left" follows through with smear attacks to deflect attention from that fact.

And, BTW, if you actually READ what natas6.0 wrote, you will see that he isn't biatching about any of those things; he's merele pointing out the hypocrisy of the "left."

Just Another OC Homeless Guy: Isn't the point, rather, HOW you make money?

"How" is simple. We let a central bank print it in cahoots with a tapped out treasury, backed by nothing. If we're all gonna play make believe, I'd say how yo USE it is a lot more important. Almost any tool works well as it was made to be used, and almost any tool can be a weapon. It's pretty much been user application error since Ogg set Ugg on fire.

>>>>>Nope.

>>>>>Everybody dies until I disagree with them.

I hope that was a typo.

>>>>>I'd say that history has made the answer to that self-evident. Money is a piss poor god.

Circular. It's bad 'cause it's bad.

>>>>>So are child molesters in robes and prayer beads, but nobody is using them to dismantle entire nations, trade for crack or give to an arms dealer to kit you up to go and wipe out villages.

Guilt by False Comparison. And, BTW, religion HAS been used to do all those things.

>>>>>"How" is simple. We let a central bank print it in cahoots with a tapped out treasury, backed by nothing.

You sound bitter. Actually, I agree with you on that.

>>>>>> If we're all gonna play make believe, I'd say how yo USE it is a lot more important. Almost any tool works well as it was made to be used, and almost any tool can be a weapon. It's pretty much been user application error since Ogg set Ugg on fire.

I can make money (create wealth) by producing a product or service to sell (voluntary exchange) to other people. Or I can "make money" (rip off wealth) by producing a gun that forces you to give me your wallet, or producing a law (also backed up with a gun) that picks your pocket.

That difference is pretty damned important.

As for using money, yes, money is a tool. But it is - by it's essential attribute of being a "counter" for voluntary exchange - a particularly non-coercive tool (unlike some of the other components you mention in another post).

>>>>>"All systems work fine on paper and are, rabid "One True Way©" flag wavers notwithstanding, essentially just components that are utilized to meet whatever need that that given component is best applied to. Money, bureaucracies, capital and other accepted constructs in our society are not useless, in and of themselves. They are, like chainsaws, axes, pitchforks and fire, tools. They can also be weapons. The problem is, and always has been, user application error."

Other than lumping money with the other things, I agree with your post.

There are only two fundamental ways that men can relate to each other: trade, or force.

>>>>>"And my larger, I mean avoir du pois and girth. Not complexity. Complexity is something we assign to large and imposing problems that resemble a whale because admitting that the problem is a big, fat, institutionalized whale means we just have to harpoon the sonofab*tch and use the carcass for mulch, And then, that means we might not get our share of plaques, awards and Monopoly money being offered for ignoring / supporting / playing along with the idea that the whale is necessary. This is for illustrative purposes of a large thing. Whales are quite nice and I wish them no ill."

You sound bitter. And drunk. Think I'll join you.

I dunno. I've never seen somebody get a woman to drop her knickers for a chainsaw. It is, I contend, the ultimate coercive tool because we threw all of our eggs in it's imaginary basket and now we have to pretend that - since there's no actual wealth behind it - that it is, in and of itself, valuable. And of course, that notion is utter malarkey.

2013-01-04 11:24:25 AM
By the way, I didn't say "money is bad because it's bad". You attributed that to the statement I made regarding history having made self-evident that "money is a piss poor god", and I said that because, if you'll note the "history" part -so far - worshiping money has gotten us, precisely, here. And lately, all we seem to be doing is trying to clean up messes and put out fires while the money cardinals wave the incense ball and spout empty blessings from the window of the getaway car. How do you suppose they leveraged all that wealth into the trunk? Certainly not by using the cheap facade of money. *snort*

Just Another OC Homeless Guy: When I talk about the same behavior on "your" part I refer, in part, to the extremely well documented history of the "left" being sucked into the various cults of personality that the socialist world worships. Castro, Lenin, Mao, Hugo, Stalin.... need I go on?

No, please don't. This is precisely where you lose every reasonable person in the discussion.

The "left" doesn't idealize any of those people. To think they do is to take the absurd claims of insane hacks like Glen Beck at face value without ever doing any critical thinking on the matter whatsoever. Or, I dunno, taking a look around yourself from time to time. For practical purposes, you can consider half of americans on the left and half on the right. Do you really think that half of americans worship people like that or the things they stood for? Really?

When you say things like that, intelligent, informed, thinking people on both sides of the fence roll their eyes and go, "Oh. Idiot. Got it."

You cannot trot out the "liberals love Stalin, Lenin, Mao" crap without putting yourself in the same camp as the birthers and truthers and moon landing hoaxers. It's ludicrous and serves as a sign hanging around your neck to let everyone know they're better off ignoring you. If you wish to participate seriously in these political discussions, you need to learn that your arguments are stronger when they don't contain that sort of nonsense.

Just Another OC Homeless Guy: Keizer_Ghidorah: Just Another OC Homeless Guy: Mentalpatient87: Just Another OC Homeless Guy: (checks profile) Yep, another alt. No response required.

Oh, so you've made up some baseless reason to dismiss me entirely. Makes it easy, doesn't it?

Oh, by no means, certainly not. Your sentence that I was responding to was: "That would require more than a sentance and a half and a hotlinked image. Blood from a stone, and all that."

Point the First: you're ignorant and sloppy, as demonstrated by your several spelling issues in this thread. It's just annoying.

Much more important, Point the Second, is that you appear to START your debating technique with ad homenim (name calling). The only direction from there, son, is DOWN.

Point the Third is that your profile data is extremely minimal, suggesting that the account is simply an alt of some other account.

All three of these together suggest Point the Fourth, that you are somewhere around the age of 12-14, and don't have the slightest farking idea what you are talking about.

So, yes, you are easy to dismiss.

It's funny the amount of energy trolls spend calling other people trolls.

Definition: Troll - Someone who says something you don't agree with. Usage - When you got nuthin' else, baby.

Oh, BTW, your reading comprehension could use just a teensy bit of improvement.

Wait! Why am I even responding to an obvious alt account with a grand total of four lines of data in the profile? Oh, right, because I'm bored.

Love the "You didn't fill out your account, therefore you're an alt!" mentality, wonder how many loops you had to tie your feeble brain into in order to come up with that. Maybe you can tell me who's alt I'm supposed to be, considering how amazingly smart you are in order to deduce that.

Protip: not everyone feels like putting all of their personal information on a website filled with man-children and assholes. Not everyone feels like taking the time to fill out everything on a website, either.

You forget, it's okay and true when he and his side say it. We ARE talking about people who think helping your fellow man and contributing to the health and upkeep of society is synonymous with communism, which is evil and horrible and Satanic. They're also adept at projection; look at how Republicans constantly call Obama "The Messiah", "The Anointed One", etc and then say Democrats are the ones worshiping him.

Well, you'd know about that, wouldn't you?

My, touchy, aren't we? That's usually a sign that the dart is at least close to the target.

Protip: never let the mark see you sweat.

When you're surrounded by them, it's hard not to know. Case in point.

How was I being "touchy"? Explaining things =/= being touchy. Are you that desperate to try to score some kind of "win"? When you rationalize your idiocy with "Well, you don't have anything filled out on this here internet form, why should I listen to anything you say?", you sound like a snotty little brat declaring "You're not a member of OUR little club!". Seriously, the last time I heard something like that was in late elementary school. I think it's time you finished growing up.

My, you're spending a lot of bandwidth on name calling. I wonder why?

(Talk about elementary school!)

Compared to the amount you waste with your trolling and stupidity, I'm a rank amateur. And it is difficult to discuss things with someone who ignores all of it in order to titter and giggle about bullshiat.
