Wise_Guy: Zulu_as_Kono: Wise_Guy: You can even make fun of a bunch of tacky crap without democrats getting all bent out of shape because they perceive it as a slight against their guy.

Did you miss this part?

Think the smoking, beer guzzling, and shirtless beach pics already made Obama look like the least presidential president ever?

I mean, why would anyone think that's a slight against Obama? Some people, I'm tellin' ya.

Who cares? Is Obama the first president we've had that is above mockery?

Put down the kool-aid already.

I prefer Flavor Aid. Then again, I'm a traditionalist.

Thunderpipes: When he spends more time on "The View" than he does communicating to Congress or press conferences, yes, he has lost all credibility.

Wow, is this true? I don't watch The View, so I don't know. Do they have other guests, or is it just him every episode now? Did they have to expand the schedule of the show to a longer format to make this possible? I mean, I knew he was on The View once or twice, I guess, but what you're saying is true and Obama spends more time on The View than he does doing his job, they must have had to expand their time slot. What do they even talk about anymore?

delysid25: let's be realistic subby, you don't think he looks presidential because he's black. you never heard anybody talk about how W didn't look presidential when he was clearing brush and wearing jeans, nobody ever said Clinton didn't look like presidential when he was playing a saxophone. but when Obama does things that normal people do every day, it is not presidential? I'm calling racist.

When people complain that Michelle Obama doesn't look like a first lady you can tell they have a very difficult time with a black woman in the white house who is wearing something besides a maid's outfit.

Just what we need. More suckering in of the masses to buy overpriced shiat that's most likely made in China to pay for a bunch of unnecessary shiat.

Here's a thought, Mr. President. If you want parades, balls, celebrations and all of the other bells and whistles to honor yourself while many of your citizens are barely getting by, pony up & pay or it yourself. I'm pretty sure you can afford it.

Wade_Wilson: George W. Bush unironically wears a cowboy hat. Obama could show up in nothing but a banana hammock and be more dignified.

I live in the south and see those damn hats everywhere, usually on people who have never met a cow that wasn't medium rare. You just know that when people from other countries think "dumb American", they imagine us all wearing cowboy hats, like we're nine years old and riding on wooden horsies. That's like meeting an Irish person and fighting the urge to glance down and see if they have buckles on their shoes.

Damn near every other male Mexican I see in downtown Santa Ana is wearing either a cowboy hat or a gang bandana. Except for the roving Bands that play at the clubs and on street corners on Friday and Saturday nights. They generally wear those huge sombreros with 2 to 4 foot radius brims.

The rules.™

People in uniforms and suits are benevolent and run things and you should do whatever they say.

Anybody who presents a posture of authority should be obeyed because that's respectful.

Politicians and people connected to government are better than us and shouldn't have to be concerned with stuff like making money or paying for things because that's not a good image to project.

Anybody connected with churches are only interested in your spiritual well being and you should listen to whatever they say and be respectful

Soldiers and firefighter are all brave, brave heroes as soon as they put on the uniform, unless it turnes out they don't love America, then they are a disgrace.

Rich people go that way because they are smarter than you and if you work very hard for them, they might give you enough of their hard earned money to live on.

Are we all done with this fairy story?

Are we?

Can we just pour gas on that insultingly ridiculous, works-on-most-small-children, fantasy world social construct and fire that trash up, piss out the ashes and laugh and dance, and dance, and dance?

Cause the emperor's ass is not only hanging out, he's taking a crap on the coffee table.

Things cost money. Ask any corporate whore. Making things that people might want as a memento - this having never occurred in history of politics - might involve at least breaking even on them once the products are made. See how that works? *snort*

The 40 years in ashes America that the GOP is most certain is alive and well is wearing a toe tag and some corporate monkeys are bidding on the forthcoming ashes to sell in small egg timers for souvenirs. When THAT is a bigger problem than some dime store inaugural boutique selling knick knacks, call me.

I just realized that this would maybe be possible if Obama became one of the panel co-hosts. Like if they got rid of Joy Behar and instead it was President Obama asking Jim Carrey about how fun it was to guest star on 30 Rock or whatever. But they kind of have that all-woman thing going on, and Obama is male, so I'd be surprised if that's what happened. Either way, I have to look into this. No sitting president should be spending that much time on The View. That's too much time on The View, Obama. There's work to be done! Get back to work! You can be on TV later!

Good argumentative technique. Put words ("travesty") in my mouth and call me out on a point that I've already conceded. While I reject the premise of your question, I will answer it. The $3 bumper sticker, the historic opting-out of federal funding in '08, and the sale of inaugural swag (however common the practice) are indicative of the commercialization of our political system. Doesn't matter. The GOP are nothing but fault finders. They're like Captain Sobel from Band Of Brothers. Their goal is not go develop someone to be super-qualified for that or any other office. Their goal is just to feel superior by making denigrating remarks.

They probably had teachers like that in school (no doubt, if they went to a private school and had ancient teachers as characterized in Dead Poets Society) and emulated those bombastic Herr Professor teachers for their ability to talk down a wise-acre. You know, poor Georgie couldn't muster enough spine to yell at class clown, John, so Georgie lives his alternate life vicariously through that pompous Latin teacher who puts down John with a few turns of a latin phrase. How do you know what I think of the other side? The subject of the thread was the conservative opinion of Obama's "presidentialness", and that's all I spoke to. I could have a similarly scathing argument about things that progressives do, but it's not relevant here so I didn't say anything about it. I don't think you understand what they were trying to do. That $3 is a donation to the campaign. That the campaign feel deigned to thank you for the donation with a memento of some sort, like a bumper sticker, is extra.
