Lando Lincoln: What the hell is subby biatching about now?

An empty building isn't empty any more, but it isn't making cars because - surprise! - making cars can be hard if you don't have institutional experience.

In other words, businesses fail - it's pretty common - but because subby presumably has an ax to grind, it's the evil democrats and their corporate welfare at fault.

Of course, mention similar programs by members of the GOP and it's all about the (potential) jobs that were killed by an anti-business environment

This makes the Chevy Volt look like a resounding success.

When libs pick winners and losers, union thugs win and taxpayers lose, every time.

Yeah, I don't guess it's reasonable to allow the FREE MARKET to pick the winners and losers, is it?

Sarcasm switched to full throttle

its early problems were largely related to such technical issues as steering

I'm not automotive engineer, but that could be important.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan doesn't like that Obama uses the government to pick which industries win and which industries lose, and Jon Stewart looked at just why it's a problem last night on The Daily Show. Turns out, it's a philosophical issue. Government money shouldn't be going into specific industries like green energy companies.

So where should money go? You know, technology and science research, Pell grants, infrastructure. Wait, hold on. "That's picking winners and losers!" Stewart said. "Investing in roads, rails, and air traffic is saying yes to cars, trains, and planes but f**k the bicycles. It may be a good decision but it's still picking winners and losers, and the government has always done that."

Every decision government makes picks winners and losers, Stewart said. But maybe Romney and Ryan don't think we should have picked winners and losers in World War II. Stewart goes dark: "Unlike them, I'm glad we beat Hitler."

So the government made a loan to a US car maker, which includes provisions to get the money back in the case of a bankruptcy, and somehow, Republicans are outraged.

Fox News chooses this to be the Sandy outrage du jour, instead of the asinine denial of relief by Congress.

The Fisker has a turbocharged gasoline generator. The batteries only take it a couple dozen miles before it kicks in. The electric motors put out nearly 500 ft.lbs of torque to the wheels though.

As a Delaware taxpayer, I'm OK with this.

twistofsin: What kind of emissions problems can you have on electric vehicles?

It was a hybrid, Fisker sourced the motor from GM and did a Volt style thing. What ultimately did Fisker in was they tried to take components optimized for fuel saving and make it performance. An analogy would be if say you owned a Prius and one day went out and bolted the turbocharger off a sports car to the Prius. Bad things would happen. Fisker felt they had the knowledge needed to solve those bad things, they didn't.

/I know some ex GM employees who applied for Fisker and were met with an attitude of "No, no, you're some loser from a Michigan auto company. Use silicon valley folk will solve this." Turns out they actually did need some mechanical engineers with auto experience on staff

I was at Rehoboth the week after the storm and took some pictures of the "damage" looked fine to me. But that plant sounds like a boondoggle with a serious lack of leadership.

Just what Delaware needed, a double fisking.

2013-01-03 03:33:13 PM
So, a company gets money from the Advanced Technologies Vehicle Manufacturing Loan Program to develop an advanced technology vehicle and then has the money halted for not meeting milestones. That seems like it is exactly as it is supposed to work.

The state paid to get the plant to locate there. That happens all the time with many industries and is entirely the state's problem.

Whenever I read headlines like this one, I take comfort in the apparent fact that eventually Republicans will become so utterly stupid they'll forget how to breathe.

Very true. At this rate, the successes are only three times greater than that off most other businesses. Obama is truly a failing monster!

It's really fun to watch the greasy, unwashed, Republi-copies come in here and try to shiat all over America.

I saw a Fisker Karma not too long ago. Slick cars. I'd buy one if I had the jack.

Not sure what the point of the headline is, but with the Fox News logo next to it I'll just assume it's written in Derpanese and ignore it.

2013-01-03 03:42:00 PM
Well, it sure is nice to see all our old conservative friends back after y'all went MIA right after the election.

Superjew: Whenever I read headlines like this one, I take comfort in the apparent fact that eventually Republicans will become so utterly stupid they'll forget how to breathe.

Just have Obama issue a pamphlet declaring the proper way to breathe ("in, out. repeat as needed") and they'll stop doing it voluntarily just out of spite.

2013-01-03 03:43:19 PM
Hey, they did that to Wisconsin, too. Fortunately the governor is running a surplus and can handle the hit. Imagine that, a SURPLUS. Suck it, IL.

Another government boondoggle. But let's debate the more important issue which is what letter follows their name.

Republican logic:

1. If the government tries to help a business, but the business fails, then the government is evil.

2. If the government does nothing to help a business, and the business fails, then the government is evil.

3. If the government tries to help a business, and the business succeeds, then then business succeeded in spite of the government, because bootstraps....and the government is evil.
