douchebag/hater: Interesting the amount of people biatching about Fark.

Funny, you complain about the site in the site's own comment section.

If Fark sucks so much WHY are you still here?

As for the article: the writer is right on the money and the people here who are upset about must feel it applies to them on a personal level.

cman looks at your sign-up date

Anything Fark post-2007 is pretty damn bad. We reached our zenith back in 2003 in terms of creativity. In the past few years, Fark has become what it loathed.

People on Fark treat blogs like Daily Kos as gospel and accept it without thought. People on fark believe in stupid conspiracy theories *like* how the President was not born in the United States. People on Fark believe that news networks are there to report news instead of their real goal of making money. This has brought even more conspiracy theorists out of the woodwork proclaming that the media conspired to destroy both OWS and the Tea Party by focusing on the misspelled signs and the dumbassess and implying that the whole movement was either racist or anti-Semitic . Farkers have forgotten that news networks show people doing stupid stuff because thats what the American public want to see. People on Fark, myself included, get lost in needlessly idiotic partisan bickering that would be best served on websites that cater to that crowd.

Fark was once a great place to come to get weird news stories; now it has turned to shiat.

Yeah... these arguments I don't usually like taking sides on, but this I feel pretty strongly about. Fark off, subby. John Cheese writes articles I honestly find funny most of the time... I'd say even moreso than Seanbaby lately, who has been making way too many mock-up comics recently and not enough actual articles.

grinding_journalist: I don't use any of those excuses, and none of the "lazy youth" scenarios apply to me. I own a home, am married, and have a kid on the way. I have a good job and a good group of reasonably responsible friends.

WHY DO I STILL FEEL LIKE A FAILURE, CHEESE? TELL ME WHAT TO DO!

According to most of the people here? You need to develop a rampaging drug addiction, lose everything, then clean up and write for a shiatty 'comedy' website. And then? Instead of a family and friends and a house and a good job? You can have farkwhiteknights brigade out to help you.

I've never found cracked particularly amusing. I've never clicked a link and went 'must share with people!', in fact, I've usually clicked a link and went 'I want my farking time and click back'.

I have great respect for Cheese, and so he has enough capital to get away with one article I disagree with.

Why does "growing up" have to mean getting married, moving to the suburbs, having 2 children, and living as a Christian Republican with a picket fence? If you aren't hurting anyone, do what makes you happy. Do it until it no longer makes you happy, and then do something else. I don't care if you're 80 and still banging chicks who hang out in bars. Does Hefner look miserable and unsatisfied?

Have you spent any time with someone under the age of 25? They are intolerable in every farking way.

I had most issue with #4 ...

Eventually, though, you start to mature and realize that every second you spend living like that is a second you haven't spent building your career or securing your retirement or building a legacy. And the longer you put it off, the more of a head start you give your competition for the perfect job or the perfect spouse. You start realizing that all of your friends bought their first house at age 30, while you're counting wrinkled wads of singles from the strip club the night before to pay your rent.

It's fine if this is a glimpse of your perfect life, but it's not mine. I hate when I'm judged on what other people want. I certainly don't want a stepford-wife, little house in the suburbs (by 30 no less), kids, and some 9 - 5 job to work at for the rest of my life.

Pretty much this.

If you measure your happiness and success by what other people do, you're likely going to be miserable your entire life.

I'm so glad I figured this out on my own about 5 years ago. It is impossible to keep up with the Joneses, and the sooner you accept that reality, the sooner you can work towards personal happiness, not someone else's idea of it.

Tommy Moo: Why does "growing up" have to mean getting married, moving to the suburbs, having 2 children, and living as a Christian Republican with a picket fence?

Except for the last part, it's because all of those things imply that you've grown into a responsible adult, regardless of how true it is, given your individual relationship/work/home life.

I mentioned upthread that I have the wife, the house, the picket fence, and a kid on the way. These things would suggest that I've matured into a responsible adult, not someone who gets hammered and rides around in a doorless, topless Jeep Wrangler shooting bottle rockets and roman candles at things on the sidewalk. Not someone who can spend hours playing video games or watching football and not feel guilty about being unproductive. Not someone who has spent the past few months (and many months to come) painting a veritable army of plastic and pewter men that are 1.5 inches tall. Not someone who refuses to quit smoking pot because it's illegal, regardless of the fact that it's superior to any other psych med out there. Not someone who will spend more time setting a fantasy football lineup and agonizing over a trade than getting real work done in the office that day. Not someone who refuses to throw away a 15 year old t-shirt that's more holes than cloth due to sentimental value. Not someone who leaves his pregnant wife at home to go play a Star Trek CCG with his friends who live a couple blocks away. Not someone who thinks doughnuts, two beers, a sack of cheddar Chex mix and a Caramello is an acceptable substitute for dinner. Not someone desperately clinging to the destructive ways of their youth because they're terrified of the future, the unknown, and themselves.

Darth_Lukecash: I like some of cracked stuff- but this author, John Cheese is really a downer.  He's obsessed with " gritty suck age" that was his earlier life.  At first it was inspiring, just showing how he turned his life around....but then it became all he could write about.

Sad that I knew this would be Cheese without looking at it.

The best advice I can think of right now is such:

"Disregard farkwads who think they got it all figured out"

Life can be wonderful and life can blow chunks. Nobody knows what's going on in your life quite the way you do.

Remember how when you were young your parents (adults in general really) seemed to have stuff figured out. They knew the answers to tough questions. They gave guidance and you trusted their authority.

Remember how once you became an adult you realized that they were pulling it out of their ass? Some of them were straight up full of shiat?

That's life. Trust yourself and consider the person giving advice might be a huge dingbat.

/this post included. Think about what you hear before you listen to it. Or not. Whatever.

cman: I would rather know when Fark changed from a website of funny news to becoming a place where the left and right needlessly cry about being victims.

It was the day when the ads went up and the boobies came down.  It is a typical side-effect of a corporate sell-out.  The good stuff vanishes, and everything gets geared to the lowest common denominator in an effort to get as many eyes on the ads as possible.  The result is a bigger, but dumber audience...trailer trash and basement dwellers, high school kids, and the occasional exceptional wit or intellectual but very, very few who stay long.

I love cracked, but writers like Cheese utterly infuriate me, especially because he makes plenty of good points that get completely lost while he angrily chases those damn kids off his lawn.

Having taught college freshmen for over a decade now, I can vouch that there are plenty of mature hard workers amongst them. The only difference between them and those who are Cheese's age is that these kids have to work multiple jobs to be able to pay for even half of their college education, an education that is now EXPECTED by almost all employers as the bare minimum to even bother reading the rest of a resume.

And sure, there are lazy idiots amongst the young as well. No more or less than there have been since Socrates started biatching about it.

Did you read his article? It isn't about college freshmen. It's about ~30 year olds. It's fine if you don't like the article, but you should at least know what he's writing about.

You are really missing the point.  The point was that posting boobies in the context of the thread (i.e. for purposes other than fapping) was a part of Fark which many people enjoyed.  The PS threads used to allow nudity in context or for humorous purposes.  Foobies has not taken the place of any of that, nor was it intended to.  Again, the appeal of Foobies was aimed at the lowest common denominator.  That is, people who wanted boobies for fapping.  People who wanted nudity for in-context humorous or artistic purposes were simply left out of luck.

That was part of it, to be sure. The fact is that it became a trickle down from Reddit, which is a trickle down from 4chan. Such is the way of the internet. I still come for the MST3K vids, the occasional photoshop thread, and to read some amusing political outrage.

Yes, let's all conform and hope to be like those couples in Cialis Commercials. Living out the rest of our days pretending to smile and get it up to a dry boring biatchy floral print wearing woman you're no longer attracted to but can't leave because she will take you for everything you have and let you know she farked your boss. Just so long as we leave behind a "legacy" no one gives two shiats about. And your grand kids will go visit your grave because you left them something to remember you by.

Ah yes, the ideal life.

Legends of the Fall bear scene ending.

Good for you. I'm glad you found your personal satisfaction. How about if I'm someone who holds a steady job (at which I've been recently promoted), donates time to charity, moonlights as an occasional handyman, dances Argentine tango on weekends, and has a plan to pay off his 30 year mortgage in 10 years? Am I immature because I haven't found any one woman that I would rather spend my entire life with than to have the excitement and variety of dating lots of women? Am I immature because I don't want kids? I'm not hurting anyone. This is what makes me happy. I'm tired of sanctimony.

If I wanted someone giving me snippy advice about how I could better my life I would talk to my nagging harpy family. I would not go to what is tagged as the "internets number one humour website"

I would describe myself as a Cracked fan. I read nearly every article/list. However in the last few months I've noticed a lot more political discussion - most of the time stating "I don't want this to turn into a political rant..." and then it totally turns into a political rant. I don't go there for preaching, I want to be entertained. They do an excellent job of entertaining but if they are going to keep pushing politics then I'm going to stop reading.

As I get older I've started realizing that political "discussion" is like religious "discussion." Lots of people trying to convince other people that their opinions are wrong. You know, kinda like the Internet.

There's no way you're going to convince me that I'm wrong, but I'm sure I'll be able to convince you that you are!

You're wrong.

Darth_Lukecash: DeltaPunch: If the author has learned from his excuses and grew to be a better person, then he shouldn't whine and try to stop others from making such excuses. Life is a learning process.

However, if he's warning us about making such excuses because look how crappy his life turned out ("I'm writing for Cracked, for God's sake!"), then why would any of us waste our time reading such a wordy article written by a total loser?

Cheese looks at being a Cracked writer as a major highlight in his life.

If you read some of his first articles, you'd see that he means to inspire those who work paycheck to paycheck until they're in their mid-30s then realize too late that they are never going to amount to anything. There's a size-able portion of the US who simply don't have the education to do anything more with their lives.

MikeSass: cman: I would rather know when Fark changed from a website of funny news to becoming a place where the left and right needlessly cry about being victims.

It's true. Fark has become TruTV, in a sense. Call it a guilty pleasure, every so often, watching some dumbass set himself on fire doing a flaming shot, but you need more substance.

I'm more active on reddit than here by a wide margin. The whining and politics get to me.

As for the article: the writer is right on the money and the people here who are upset about must feel it applies to them on a personal level.

YEP.

\I love John Cheese.
\\Subby can eat a bowl of dicks.

And people who are against gay marriage are secretly wishing they could blow a box car full of men. And people who speak out about the fur industry are just jealous they can't afford it. And if I criticize a loud vegetarian for their one sided arguments and closed viewpoints I must envy their lifestyle.

Who could argue with the line of reasoning that something's detractors are all secretly in love with it? Infallible reasoning.

John cheese is like a huge fart. Once in a while its funny to hear, but farts can only get laughs for so long. And they always stink. And most people are left wondering why he didn't go to another room to let the stinker rip. just seems rude doesn't it.
