(Cracked)   So when exactly did Cracked go from being "lists of amusing video game bugs and/or interesting historical facts" to "Sanctimonious old middle class white dudes whine endlessly about how teenagers are lazy and immature"?   (cracked.com) divider line 103

I don't really remember a time when the word "amusing" ever applied to Cracked lists.

2013-01-03 12:29:14 PM
Cracked writers are growing old and realizing they are still writers for Cracked, that's why.

2013-01-03 12:33:16 PM
I like some of cracked stuff- but this author, John Cheese is really a downer.  He's obsessed with " gritty suck age" that was his earlier life.  At first it was inspiring, just showing how he turned his life around....but then it became all he could write about.

Yeah this.  On it's own, I think it's a pretty good article.  It's saying essentially that you aren't entitled to shiat, if you want something go out and work to make it happen.  But in context it just reads like someone who is your age acting like your step-father.

2013-01-03 12:41:43 PM
probably happened around the time their interns got to be too lazy and immature to agree to write their content for free.

2013-01-03 12:43:36 PM
If the author has learned from his excuses and grew to be a better person, then he shouldn't whine and try to stop others from making such excuses. Life is a learning process.

However, if he's warning us about making such excuses because look how crappy his life turned out ("I'm writing for Cracked, for God's sake!"), then why would any of us waste our time reading such a wordy article written by a total loser?

2013-01-03 12:44:41 PM
Ranting, as a form of comedy, is rarely fulfilling.

I wonder how many teens will read this and turn their lives around.

Keep the guess low, I think.

2013-01-03 12:48:27 PM
Well, in their defense, 99% of teenagers are lazy and immature.  Of course, so are a lot of adults.  They rag on the grown-ups as much as they do teenagers.

Cheese looks at being a Cracked writer as a major highlight in his life.

Probably the same cranky nimrods who keep posting that fake Bill Gates / high school garbage all over Facebook.

John Cheese is old?  Really?  Then that makes me.....  Oh dear god!

I've corrected a couple people on that.  That not only is it completely opposite to his stated philosophy on life and charity, but he is wearing a badly Photoshopped Apple shirt, and holding a badly Photoshopped handgun to a badly Photoshopped iPod.

That said, Cheese is one of my favorite writers on the site.  I don't get all the hate for Cracked, personally. I find them funny more often than not, their videos are a hell of fun, and I find the lists fairly light, digestible daily reading as I'm getting ready for bed.

I would rather know when Fark changed from a website of funny news to becoming a place where the left and right needlessly cry about being victims.

100% agreed.  Even George Carlin, who was a brilliant comedian most of the time... his rants were rarely that good.  Same with Louis Black (except for some reason he's good on The Daily Show usually.)

Likely the same time at which the rest of the country became one.

I remember when Cracked used to be the poor man's MAD magazine.

Has to be John Cheese

*clicks*

Yep.

The guy acts like he's the one-stop encyclopedia for all of life's valuable information. You write on a comedy website for Christ's sake.

The same time Fark went from witty headlines and reasonable discussions to unfunny half jokes and slanderous headlines and troll fights in the comment sections?

/Oh and WND links.

I probably would, too. I've never worked at a company I've heard of or been particularly proud of the work I do there. It's not the craziest thing in the world. Most people's lives are pretty damned boring.

2013-01-03 03:59:49 PM
Hey, I resent that.

Some of us lazy, immature people are in our forties. Most of us are here on FARK.

2013-01-03 04:00:55 PM
I think it's sad so many of you know individual writers on Cracked

2013-01-03 04:01:39 PM
All these people condemning Cracked, get a life.

First of all, their articles are like Howard Stern. It masquerades as low-brow, when in fact it's very well-researched and well-done. There's a lot that goes into those articles. They also make me laugh on a regular basis, for free.

Also, the writers are making more money than I'd bet everyone in this thread, so enough with the "durr working for cracked must suck".

Actually, the cranky nimrods might be people like you and I who spend several hours an evening correcting the lesser cranky nimrods who consistently share stupid shiat like that on Facebook.

Most former addicts are like that. They're so shocked that they cleaned up their act that they figure they're enlightened, sort of like born-again Christians. Of course, the clarity that comes from no longer drowning in booze or drugs might make every insignificant detail of life seem profound. I dunno, I've never stopped boozin'.

Started off with a decent point about how dudes who do ridiculous things like green half-shaved heads need to be prepared to deal the the inevitable consequences.

Lost me though when he equated "grown up" with "owns a house".

Ha! I knew it was Cheese.

2013-01-03 04:30:17 PM
Cracked became this way when the Mayan apocalypse failed to happen.

2013-01-03 04:34:59 PM
it reads like it was written by someone is just now reaching the age of 45 or so.

2013-01-03 04:36:21 PM
So its Fark now?

2013-01-03 04:44:12 PM
I don't use any of those excuses, and none of the "lazy youth" scenarios apply to me. I own a home, am married, and have a kid on the way. I have a good job and a good group of reasonably responsible friends.

WHY DO I STILL FEEL LIKE A FAILURE, CHEESE? TELL ME WHAT TO DO!

2013-01-03 04:47:56 PM
Wonder how much of the butthurt here is from people for whom this hits a little too close to home.

Also, yeah he writes for Cracked. He gets paid for that. You're trying to be witty and funny on Fark for free. Get over yourself.

I was there when we dropped a quad on Gene Masseth. A hedgehog was also killed. That was the cresting high tide, and if you squint with just the right kind of eyes, you can see where the wave broke and turned back.

Quit being so pooper peeved over people being butthurt.

That was a completely dumb argument, but the cops tazing the redneck wedding fighters video was well worth the time invested.

I'm guessing there are a lot of writers at Cracked, and some are funny and some aren't.

You're right, have some adrenochrome.

That whole article reads like someone who's really bitter because he knows some 30 or 40 somethings that aren't "grown up" and are perfectly happy that way.

They should never have hired Charles Krauthammer to be their editor in chief.

Should have been titled "I Was A Teenage Skrillex"

I believe there is a "demotivational" poster that addresses that very issue.

Interesting the amount of people biatching about Fark.

Funny, you complain about the site in the site's own comment section.

If Fark sucks so much WHY are you still here?

As for the article: the writer is right on the money and the people here who are upset about must feel it applies to them on a personal level.

Even if it's not all that interesting, I think it's good to read things like this now and then - makes you think about how you make some of the same mistakes. And believe me, even very successful, motivated people make some of these mistakes - just fewer of them.
On the other hand, one or two reads like this a year is plenty for me.

I guess I'm just weird for enjoying Cracked lists, including John Cheese's articles.

And for what it's worth, subby, this particular article isn't about how teenagers are lazy and immature. It's about how some adults still are for having the same habits they had 15 years ago when they were a teenager.
