Just because it's "unidentified" doesn't necessarily mean "of extraterrestrial or supernatural origin". Could be military, meteorological, geomagnetic, or any other mundane object/phenomenon. Doesn't mean it isn't worth trying to figure out what it is, though.

Well duh. If you're the world's biggest skeptic, all things you see in the sky are unidentified flying objects until you see detailed flight records.

It's when you start calling the blinking lights aliens that the problems occur.

Why is it that something flying you can't identify, suddenly becomes an alien?

People are morans.

Why would alien craft run lights?

Contrabulous Flabtraption: Profedius: Those look like paper lanterns to me.

Then you've never seen paper lanterns. The don't fly in parallel patterns.

Ummm, yes they do. Two lanterns often behave exactly like that, and seem to pivot around each other, because they're caught in separate air currents. You can see this every single night in the hippier part of London.

lohphat: What does the "U" in UFO stand for again?

Exactly. Big pet peeve of mine: "UFO" does not mean alien spacecraft!!! If you don't know what it is, that MAKES it a UFO.

A father and son have filmed what they believe is a UFO in the sky above Cardwell in Queensland, north east Australia.

Wait... If they've identified it as a UFO, does that mean it's not one?
