Investigators said the hollowed-out grenades posed no danger.

More like three paperweights found in a Downtown Disney trash can.

Deputies removed them about 10 p.m. and said they would blow them to be certain they couldn't hurt anyone.

Hollowed out grenades... but lets blow them up just to be sure. Not because we need an excuse to blow some stuff up or anything :-)

Downtown Disney is a series of shops outside Disneyland proper, near the park hotels but outside the parks

it's a mall for hicks for whom a shopping mall would be a tourist attraction: "Gee Bobby Sue, they have both a pizza place for that Eye-Talian food and a place with hamburgers. Is this heaven or still Florida?"

FYI, Disneyland (the one in Anaheim) has a Downtown Disney too. Hell, it's the one I thought of as well.

Ugh, no wonder I was confused - even though this was on a Florida news site, the references to Orange County made me think this was Downtown Disney in Anaheim. Then I found out Disneyworld is in Orange County, Florida.

In my defence, I'm Australian.

I ate at the Downtown Disney Earl of Sandwich for Christmas Dinner last week. It was awesome. I also enjoyed all the free music street performers that are there every night. I enjoyed DD as much or more than my days at Epcot or the Magic Kingdom.

This hollowed-out thing is cracking me up. Do they mean empty? Because a grenade is nothing more than a (fragmentary) container for explosives.

So they were practice grenades? Duds? The thing you put the "Complaint Department take a number sign" on?

Yeah, I know; it's confusing. There are two Downtown Disneys, and they are both in Orange County.

Our family went to Disney in Florida a few years back. We went through downtown Disney through the day and looked around the shops, no big deal. On the last night I was going to go to Planet Hollywood, but ended up back in Downtown Disney. They had some areas set up playing music and videos, and all the 'kids' that were under 21 were dancing outside the bars there. There was a walk up window that sold Margaritas, and I spent the rest of the night watching them dance and drinking.

I enjoyed the Disney Resort we stayed at and Downtown Disney at night. I'd go again for those alone and not go inside any of the parks at all if given the option.

Same here. My kid loved Animal Kingdom and Studios the most. Then DD and Magic Kingdom. He said Epcot sucked except for the Space Shuttle ride. And yes, they need an Earl of Sandwich in Chicago pronto

So, let me get this straight. They weren't real grenades and posed zero danger of detonation. So, instead of painting them orange and throwing them away they are going to blow them up, thereby causing them to break into tiny fragments propelled at high speed. Kinda like shrapnel. Seems they are more dangerous in the hands of the police than they were at Disney.

Let me guess, dummy or de-milled grenades, and not worthy of a story.
*checks link*
yep.

Are you farkin serious? How much money did they spend blowing up was is essentialy just a hunk of metal that could only hurt someone if you threw it at them?
They could have just....thrown them away. Or use them for paperweights. Or at least use it as a 'drop weapon' next time they shoot a handcuffed suspect in the back of the head by mistake.
