This was Miss Chiff.. rescue kitty.. truely awesome cat.. tons of personality.. had her for about 4 months.. woke up one morning and she had gone over the bridge...turns out that her heart was 1/3 smaller than normal.. and she was a big kitty..  had heard a 'thump' the night before, shortly after that she climbed up on the bed.. she always laid across my feet, so I knew that was her..  died during the night... at least we got to enjoy each other for a while....

The BEST months of her life, I have no doubt at all.

She would come into the 'office', to my chair and 'talk' to me.. I would put my arm down beside her with my hand cupped:  she would step into my hand with her hind feet, wrap her front paws around my arm and hang on.. I would raise my arm out, then up, swing it around.. she wouldn't budge.. and the purr volume was loud !.. she went way too soon...  I knew the area that she came from.. a housing complex, catering mostly to college students.. did some checking, and found out that several other similar marked cats had passed early..  my vet suggested that inbreeding could have been an issue.. there were a lot of strays around there, very few fixed.. had a local group go over there.. I think they live- trapped about 30 for the TNR process... I did 8 in my neighborhood... PAL ( Prevent-A-Litter) will do ferals for free, but request a donation.. I got mine done for about 30 bucks each.. totally worth it... costs more for my crew, as they also get a complete checkup and all the needed shots.. also totally worth it.....

Interesting how some cats only spend a wee bit of their lives with us, but make such a lasting impression!
True.. she got along with everybody from the start..  no fussing at all....  the first night there, she laid across my feet, looked at me, decided it must be ok, and that was her spot... if I moved, she would get up, and then return after I settled down..

How lucky you were to be granted the honor of hosting(literally) her last moments. She must have really trusted you. I am sure she fell asleep, deep in the knowledge that you loved her.  She chose to cross the bridge with you secure by her side. You are truly blessed.

I'm gonna agree with the above responses to your post - you cat needs to be on a specially formulated diet. I just wanted to add that getting food and/or medication from a vet is usually more expensive than it has to be. Royal Canin, Hills and Purina all make prescription diets for various issues. I would suggest calling them (all have toll free numbers), they can tell you which vets in your area carry their products (most vets only carry one brand, and you might have to try different ones to find one your cat likes, also prices will vary).

Also, you can get the majority of the foods online at much lower prices (even with shipping), all your vet has to do is fax the RX  to them. Finally, IMHO, you just might want to consider a different vet. Good luck!

DoomsDayAardvark: sherpa18: Cons:  No "Upload from web" feature (which was, honestly, the main thing I used).

OK, I can understand that, then again, I have always used the PB uploader extension in FF, so NBD for me.
More clickiness required to get the damn direct link (Used to be hover -> mouse -> click, now it's hover over smaller target -> mouse -> click -> mouse -> click). Agreed.
Keeps irritating me with a tour of new features (it's done this three times in the last 20 minutes, hopefully that's the last one).
Yeah, I found the easiest way to get rid of that is to take the tour (3 short clicks that really don't tell you shiat)
Seems to have lost track of its job (Seriously, I want it to store my pics.  I don't need flippin' social network crap on every damn site I use.  I don't need photobucket friends, I don't want to follow other people's albums, etc.  I can't even imagine what "stories" are supposed to be). Never been bothered with that.
No way to jump to the end of the album.  You  have to scroll now.  I've got 800 pics in that album, which probably isn't even a lot, and it just took me 5 minutes to get to the end of it.  It used to take 5 seconds.  When I'm at the bottom of it, I can't get the link to the album anymore.  I have to scroll back up to get to it. THIS. Although the scrolling seems to take less time than jumping to a new page and waiting for the pics and facebook and twitter and other misc crap to load, I think it's actually a bit faster. But yeah, I have an album with 2400+ pics, no way do I want to have to scroll my way through to the end of that.
However, I do like the fact that all of your sub-albums are now available no matter which album you are viewing. And... well, actually now that I think about it, pretty much nothing else is an improvement.

I have a plastic frog.. about 8" long, 6" wide.. has a motion sensor in it.. croaks when you walk by it.. periodically I will set it on the floor in the hall.. some serious acrobatics happen shortly thereafter..  get tired of hearing it croaking at 2-3 am... so I 'retire' it for a while....

Aww, look at his bald little belly!  I'd so love to tickle it, but it would surely mean my death.  ;)
He is such a handsome boy.

Oh, yes, he'd eat you alive! His belly gets bald every spring. We can't figure out what he is allergic to outside. This year I put cortizone cream on it, right before I fed him..so it would absorb without him grooming it away. He was surprisingly tolerant of the cream app. And he didn't develop those tiny scabs like he usually does, and his hair grew back faster.

Also, watch him carefully.  A full blockage can kill the kitty in less than three days.  If he gets extra lethargic you'll have to bring him to the vet so they can drain his bladder.  If you don't notice him until he's having a hard time moving, you have less than 24 hours to act.  Be aware.

Fred,s game is to flop down on my shoe, so I have to squat down and give him scritches.. at which point he starts purring and drooling (water cooled motor).. after that ritual is completed, he tears off to the utility room for noms.. he has me trained well....

He's cute!  Love his tummy coloring!

aand he looooves belleh rubs... sometimes Fred will grab my hand like he,s going to tear it off, but he doesn't  bite, or use his claws... he is learning to play !  There was a guy working at the house next door yesterday.. yard and clean-up work.. Fred stayed under the shed most of the day.. very nervous around anybody else.. when he first started coming around, if I touched the water hose, he would be gone instantly..  washed the car in the yard last week.. he was laying about 20 feet away..not concerned.. takes awhile to build the trust....

Too much

Just when I think that I have had too much!
My cat rolls over and falls off the chair.

Made me laugh.
Hiding my smile behind my hand
So that he would not see.

When I am feeling sad,
Conflicted.

He sits upon my lap,
Takes a bath.
Reminds me,

It will all come out in the wash.

When I am sick at home,
I am never alone,
My cat has my back.

And knees,
And lap,
Sometimes, rarely, my head.

Just when I am convinced that life
Has let me down,
My cat demands to be picked up.

His purrs resound through my chest,
Restarting my heart, my hope.

Just when I think I have had,
Too Much!
My cat shows me,
I've not had enough!

kareninsf: Hey
Hope this is the place to vent- been a lurker for a long time and only posted a couple times- Luv all your posts, I'm sorry for the farkette that lost her uncle Ted :( (me and my kitty haz sad for you)

My baby "boyfriend" (too tired to figure out how to post a pic) keeps getting crystals in his urethra! I'm sad. Vet says this will be a life long problem- no kibble, just wet food only, and take him in if he pees blood for more than 2 days and stops eating.

First started 8 months ago- he's an indoor/outdoor cat- usually goes potty outside but has litterbox if he has to go at night. He peed a few times in inappropriate places, meowing loudly all the time, restless. Then he kept trying to use the litterbox insisting I watch, nothing would come out, then a few trys later a few drops of blood! OMG I freaked. Vet said just irritation from crystals cause I gave him too much dry food. Will be a lifelong problem cause he's got a narrow urethra.

I've fed him strictly wet food since then, everything was good , but It's happening again! No blood, but all other behaviors.

I"m sad cause I know he's in pain-he's restless, wants to hide in the closet, then runs to the litterbox and pees a few drops, then meows at my feet, etc etc

I haz server sad for him- he's my best bud

Thanks for the vent, and for CATURDAY!!!!

Anyone got advice on how to make him drink more water? I think I need to take him to the vet again so I can get him pain meds- don't want to sound selfish but I don't have a car, $ is tight (he was a starving semi- ferral that eventually adopted me, not like I got a cat when I couldn't take care of one on purpose- he's be long gone without me and lives a happy life 98% of the time)

My heart hurts really bad to see him hurting so much-

karen and boyfriend

Cat water fountain ought to do it. They're like $30 on Google Shopping and that sorted my narrow-urethra'd cat's problems right out.

Your vet should be telling you that he can eat dry food but it HAS to be prescription food.  Royal Canin S/O for cats.  One of my cats gets crystals.  He eats this food as do the other cats in the house.  Wet food HAS to be prescription too!  Stuff over the counter is causing the crystals.  In addition, you may want to ask if he needs to take amitriptyline (it is an antidepressant but it makes it not hurt for them to pee).  I've spent close to $1000 in the last 3 months due to crystals in urine with one cat.  One cat!  I have 5 cats!!!!  Call your vet in the morning and insist that you be seen and insist that they prescribe the right food for him.   The food is not cheap but it is less expensive than the vet visits and the pain that my boy goes thru.

i112.photobucket.com

This is the boy with crystals, when he was on pain medication that gave him some nice little trips.

Call your vet first thing in the morning.  If your kitty gets blocked it can be a death sentence for him.

kareninsf: meant to say I'm trying the food asap- surgery last resort-
TY

We're six years in with just food - no surgery, so your cat will probably be just fine with a new diet.  It's the first thing vets try when a cat gets crystals in their urinary system.  If that doesn't work, they move to surgery.

You will probably have to buy the food from a vet - pet stores don't carry it.  But a 40 lb bag can feed one cat for four months.

You can try mixing a little bit of water or plain unsalted chicken broth in with his gooshy food.  Even if it's just an extra spoonful or two, every little bit helps.

Also, if he likes playing in the sink or tub, try leaving the tap turned on to a slow drip, a lot of cats love drinking from the faucet.

Good luck.  Hope the little guy starts feeling better soon!

Also, hi!  :)

John Buck 41: AlienDandelion: John Buck 41: AlienDandelion: Good Evening family.

I hope all is well, just about to start catching up on here.

I had the most batshiat crazy day.
As I posted somewhere else - as this is the best way I could explain it:

I can honestly say I do not know of anyone else who can go to a brutal and long interview whilst bleeding profusely and STILL be able to finish said interview and hide the fact that I was in a lot of pain and bleeding.
If that little stunt doesn't get me a job - I really don't know what else would.

I headed right over to the hospital after, found out my stitches from January 2nd's nightmare ripped and I had bled so badly I had ruined my dress shirt - but thank god my jacket and pants were black because the blood dripped down to my knee :(

But hey - the day is done so away we go and I'll just have to take it easy and see what happens.
[rubmint.com image 340x512]

You're amazing. I'll bet you nailed that interview! Good luck.

I would like to say so....but I don't want to get my hopes up.
I was getting mixed readings from the two people who were intervewing me and was told numerous times they doubted my ability to handle the workload...but at the same time I went in well prepared and caught them off guard, as well as I was asked to do something after my interview that I was told by people who work there that they NEVER see anyone get to do unless they are in training.
So....I really don't know hahaha! all bits crossed though - this would finally put an end to a very horrific last 6 months of last year...[mlblogsphilliesphollowers.files.wordpress.com image 254x443]

This is Humulus, a brewery cat where I used to work.. great mouser / ratter.. looovved the brush.. all you had to do was hold it.. he would rub on the brush until you put it away.... and a double sided brush to boot.. the chin on the bristles, the jaw on the wires with beads side.. and would get really mad when you stopped....

Hope you get the job, that would be awesome!

Good Evening family.

Jack after playing in the snow last week

Oh my! How many towels did you use to get him dry??

He looks worse than it is. He's part malamute so the snow just sits on top of his fur and you just wipe it off and he's good to go. Now that winter is here he will spends hours just sitting on the deck enjoying the cold weather. While Gremie spends those same hours staring out the window watching him.

Aww, tigerose, sorry to hear about your Uncle Ted.

I think a phone call about something like that is only right.  At the *very* least, a private email to family and close friends, before indiscrimately dumping the news onto facebork!  That's just... cold.  :(

May your Uncle Ted rest in peace.

tigerose, was that really Epithet, or Epitaph? Reference to cheap dictionary confirms it's actually both, in a way. "When in doubt, look it up" & I did.
Time for me to say Goody-Night. Also had attack of the Guilts for not having sent our fave Alien an e last eve to query how it all went, if she was up to a reply, but have belatedly done so. & afore I fergit, there's someone on imgur with the user tag of Violent GoldFish. Not Goldfish Memory.

tigerose: I haz a sad. Our Uncle died yesterday, and we found out about it via a facebook post.
Phones still work right?
Uncle Ted was owned by a poodle by the name of Benji. Benji used to visit Ted in the nursing home, until he no longer knew him. The family continues to care for him. I wonder if he knows that Ted is gone.

Sorry to hear about your Uncle. Obviously he was someone you cared about , some people don't think about calling others with the news because they are too upset, others think reading it in the paper is good enough even if they are family. And now some people seem to think Facebook is as good as a phone call such is the hazards of modern life. I still prefer the personal touch myself.
For now just believe that your Uncle is at peace and no longer suffers the horrors of a lost memory.
