You know I would really be interested to have Al Jazeera on my TV. I saw a few minutes of it and it actually had a story from Africa. AFRICA, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! You never see stories from Africa on CNN in the US.

Isn't that only an issue with monopoly concerns (which owning Current TV doesn't trigger)?

Yes, but when I click on an Al Jazeera link, I can expect to be actually surprised by typos or glaring grammatical errors. For a comparision, this sentence: "Local citizens like Jennifer Veri support the police, Veri said, "You want them to be with their guns that makes them cops so they can protect the public."" was actually printed by a legitimate journalist.

barneyfifesbullet: Yeah, it figures that the kos tab would have a so what headline for this story.

Al Gore pushes the sale of his network to an anti-American biased broadcaster before Jan 1 for tax reasons. Then, retires to another wing in his fancy mansion for more donuts.

It's cool and hip when a Democrat does that.

This funny story came through yesterday at the same time Andrew Sullivan announced he was starting a subscription site. If he had paid attention to the internet since 1998, he would know liberals don't pay their money for anything. Ever.

These guys are what Fark Cons consider the smart ones. Think about that.

"The Arab news network Al-Jazeera celebrated the birthday of released Lebanese terrorist Samir Kuntar with a cake and fireworks. The Middle East Media Research Institute reports that Kuntar, who shot an Israeli child's father in front of her, and then beat her to death with his rifle back in 1979, was given a hero's welcome on the network. One interviewer said, quote, 'You deserve even more than this. I think that 11,000 prisoners, if they can see this program now, are celebrating your birthday with you. Happy birthday.'"

Stay classy, libs.

Just the Wikipedia link:

Stand up guy, huh MeinRS6? Makes me pretty sick knowing this is the kind of person liberals like.

Samir Kuntar (Arabic: سمير القنطار, also transcribed Sameer, Kantar, Quntar, Qantar) (born July 20, 1962 in Abey, Lebanon) is a Lebanese Druze former member of the Palestine Liberation Front. On April 22, 1979, at the age of 16, he participated in the attempted kidnapping of an Israeli family in Nahariya that resulted in the deaths of four Israelis and two of his fellow kidnappers.[1] Kuntar was convicted in an Israeli court for murder of an Israeli policeman, Eliyahu Shahar, 31 year-old Danny Haran, and Haran's 4-year-old daughter, Einat Haran, whom he killed with blunt force against a rock. He was also convicted of indirectly causing the death of two-year-old Yael Haran by suffocation, as her mother, Smadar, tried to quiet her crying while hiding from Kuntar.[2] In 1980 Kuntar was sentenced to four life sentences.[2]

Immediately after his arrest, Kuntar admitted to the killings,[3] but at his sentence and thereafter he denied killing the father and daughter, saying that they had been killed by security forces in the ensuing gun battle. He did admit to taking them hostage and killing Eliyahu Shahar, however.[4][5] An eyewitness testified to having seen Kuntar shoot Danny Haran, and forensic evidence presented at his trial showed that Einat's brain tissue was found on his rifle.[6] He spent nearly three decades in prison before being released on July 16, 2008 as part of an Israel-Hezbollah prisoner swap.

In Israel, Kuntar is considered the perpetrator of one of the most brutal terrorist attacks in the country's history,[7] while in Lebanon, where Israel's version of the events is disputed by many and it is denied that he killed the father and his daughter,[8][9] he is widely regarded as a "national hero."[10] Newsweek states that the details of Kuntar's attack are "so sickening they give pause even to some of Israel's enemies."[11] The Jerusalem Post states that "exactly how popular Kuntar is in Lebanon is up for some debate."[12]

In November 2008, Syrian president Bashar Assad presented Kuntar with Syria's highest medal[13] and in early 2009 he was honored by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.[14] He is on a list of individuals banned from entering the United Kingdom.

The Bestest: I know I'm just troll feeding, but it would be helpful to point out that while Al Jazeera is state owned (so is BBC technically), the state that owns them, Qatar, has been a strong US ally since its inception as a nation in 1971 when it gained independence, through a US-sponsored act, from Britain.

Yeah, but they're Muslims. MUSLIMS. And therefore, TERRORISTS.

On July 19, 2008, Al Jazeera TV broadcast a program from Lebanon that covered the "welcome-home" festivities for Samir Kuntar. In the program, the head of Al Jazeera's Beirut office, Ghassan bin Jiddo, lavished praise on Kuntar by calling him a "pan-Arab hero" and organized a birthday party for him.

The fact you somehow think this is just a single incident which in no way reflect AJ is pretty pathetic.

Al sold his network to a terrorist supporting organization. Liberals love this, especially because they hate Israel. Disgusting. Above we actually have a person sticking up for a murderer of kids. This is the typical liberal in American now, and what they believe.

I know that the name makes you sphincter quiver because it sounds all muslimy, but Al-J has been in the UK for years, and has very few detractors, because anyone watching if for 5 minutes can see it's a very high quality broadcaster.

I know this sounds like a crazy idea, but have you considered actually watching it before launching your opinion on the world?

In the copy and paste of Wikipedia, a small bit was "overlooked""

"A few days later an official letter was issued by Al Jazeera's director general, Khanfar Wadah, in which he admitted that the program violated the station's Code of Ethics and that he had ordered the channel's programming director to take steps to ensure that such an incident does not recur"

I've never doubted it was built with "oil money" - but you seem to equate that with terrorism and/or evil Muslims.

I.E. why is "oil money" bad in your little world?

And I'm really sorry that you need to insult everyone who disagrees with you. It must be a burden to have such a small penis, both literally and figuratively.

Wait a tick. You just posted "Being a gun-loving, gay-hating con like yourself, I figured you'd love it when gays are hanged" and now you say that I have a small penis for pointing out that you're an idiot for not understanding the Al Gore + oil money point? You were even demanding proof of the obvious. If you don't want to be called stupid, then stop posting stupid stuff. And you can't insult people in one post and in the next try to lecture someone about insulting you. Well, I guess you can if you're an idiot Farklib that is every bit the hypocrite that the Gorebert is.

And I never said anything about muslims or terrorists, so you can give up on that bullshiat right now. In fact, I said the EXACT OPPOSITE in my post above, but you're so goddamn stupid that you can't even understand what I posted. And I'm not saying that because you disagree with me. I'm saying that because it is an obvious fact.

Yes, it's trolling because only the trolls even brought Gore up, and when no one cared, they kept trying to hammer the Gore thing (seriously, no one gives a rat's ass about Gore except "conservatives" thinking they're scoring some type of points or gotcha or whatever in bringing him up). Hell, Gore's not even what I was talking about.

It's either trolling or willful ignorance to keep pushing the "terrorist" thing.
