Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, FL already has a zip line over the gator exhibit. Watching them swim around the bottom of the platform's supports as your are strapping yourself in is a little unnerving.

Tallahassee Museum has this currently. It's a big hit with the kids, and the parents who missed out on their late teens/early 20's.

This is an awesome headline for two reasons: it asks the obvious question and the answer is in the tag.

some people even pay $5 a month to make sure their genes have no future.

This doesn't sound like a good idea. Tigers are an endagered species. What if they choke on a belt buckle or something?

2013-01-02 02:27:15 PM
They already have one going over the gator pit at Gatorland in Orlando.

I don't understand how an article about a mystery monkey could be confused with tigers, but whatever.

Tiger food is expensive.

This will help keep costs low and the human population down.

It's a win/win!

okay who in the hell thought this was a good idea? I mean i can see what safety precautions could be put in place in all but nothing is fool proof.

There's a zipline over alligators and crocodiles in St. Augustine....and children are allowed to use it too. Florida, why you so cray cray?

2013-01-02 02:31:26 PM
If you fall off a zip line you'll probably end up dead. Or badly injured, in which case the fatal tiger mauling might be a mercy.

Seriously though, the odds of falling off a zip line are probably near zero. I'm ok with this.

Been there, done that and it's pretty cool.  I've loved that place since I was kid.

CSB: My old roommate's band used to practice there after hours.  The Animal Currator was the guitar player.  Good times!

You can swim freely with tiger sharks in Orlando, and zip line over gator pits in St. Augustine, so why not?

I was hiking in Myakka last summer and walked up on a 10' gator sitting on a log a out 5' in front of me.

It's Florida.

I love that article. Oh by te way were putting a zipline over the Tiger habitat. Oh cool...wait, what?

I'm totally gonna ride on it and bring my laser pointer for S&G.

The Brevard zoo across from The Avenue? I've been to it and I didn't think it went over alligators. I thought it went over those god damn small tamarin monkeys that are at every zoo.

Maybe I'm thinking of their tree walking thingie...

Seriously, when something goes wrong and people fall in with the tigers (or the gators, for that matter), I'm going to laugh for days.

It's not the falling off I'd be worried about.

It's the leaping tigers with a human-cat-toy-on-a-string that I'd be concerned with.

True. You have better odds of losing your feet and hands. Just ask Aimee Copeland

I was just there this past Saturday and saw Cornelius and swam with the tiger cub. (awesome experience btw) While we were on the riding tour we passed their various tigers and I have zero intention of ever zip lining over them. Dem some big kitties. Even the 10lb cub had paws bigger than a 150lb bull mastiff.

No mention in the article about Cornelius's monkey herpes and the huge plexiglass shields around his enclosure...

In any other Zoo, I would say "nothing". But in Florida? Well, I hope fatty food isn't bad for tigers.

It was part of the Treetop Trek, but only at the end of the Treetop Challenge and not the shorter Canopy Walk. I've got video of them swimming around before I jumped off; it looks like something out of an Indiana Jones movie. I would have filmed the whole thing, but I didn't want to drop my phone. Or die.

Most zip lines are high enough that you'd die if you fell, tigers or not. As long as you're wearing a full climbing harness, there's really no way to fall unless the rig breaks.

For twenty bucks the zoo in Puerto Vallarta let my wife and I hop in and play with some tiger cubs. It was awesome (pic in profile! :D).

Ahhh, i should have done it then. I moved away from Merritt Island a few months ago...

So what you're saying is, the only way for the system to fail is if the system has a failure? Sounds like they thought of everything!

You know, zip ling over dangerous zoo exhibits could become a new thing. Like in the snake house exhibit. line up all the snake tanks, open the tops (but keep the walls high enough that they can't just climb right out) and let people zip line over them. If the rig breaks, everyone gets to see someone fall on to the tops of glass walls and deadly snakes. Same thing for the meat eating animals, crocs, gators, so on and so forth. I may have to see if I can't start a business: people zip ling from the top of one sky scraper to the next.

Arkanaut: The tigers could be in danger of gaining weight.

They just trot over to the 'tug'o'war' with the humans, they get to pull on them so hard they smash the humans head right into the fence.  It's FL and it's damn good exercise.
