And 600 million years from now, maintaining complex natural life on Earth will require sustained massive release of CO2 by some means to compensate for declining volcanic activity.

Otherwise, this biosphere is past its prime already. Eukaryotic life began 2 billion years ago and it has 1.3 billion years left unless it gets off this rock.

That's a damned shame, since the only derp available, then, is the OCD Fark Liberal derp constantly whinging on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about the Fox derp. It's boring, seriously.

If we havent found a way off this rock in 600 million years, we deserve to choke and die.

One would hope we are well capable of long range interstellar travel by that point.

Yeah, I found it somewhat depressing as well.

Sure I'll be dead and gone, but I thought the planet would support life nearly to the point of the Sun running up against its end-time.

Looks like it'll actually happen a couple of billion years earlier than that.

Also, in the much nearer future...

FTA : In 8 million years, the moon Phobos comes within 4,300 miles of Mars, the Roche limit, at which point tidal forces will disintegrate the moon and turn it into a ring of orbiting debris that will continue to spiral in toward the planet

whistleridge: Deslide

Although THAT isn't a bad slideshow. Each image is independent, and the descriptions are decent. The bad ones are the ones with 4 word descriptions, and repetitions of the previous slide, but from a different angle, shiat like that. At least this slideshow compartmentalizes everything.

Although, a deslide is always appreciated.

neongoats: Just Another OC Homeless Guy: John Nash: I wish they had comments on that so I could read all the derp from the Fox News audience.

That's a damned shame, since the only derp available, then, is the OCD Fark Liberal derp constantly whinging on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about the Fox derp. It's boring, seriously.

At least the Fox Derp occasionally varies from Official Script. But, apparently, there are few independent or original thinker in the 101st Fighting FLDB (Fark Liberal Derp Brigade).

Stop being pissed at science for not aborting you. Instead, thank a scientist(the doctor) that pulled your screaming, horned, half demonic whelp ass out of your poor, horrified mother.

Just because right wing farks like you sit around and pray for the world to end, like a bunch of sick farks.

Oh my, hit a sore spot, did we?

You're pretty far gone (saw at least 3 scripted memes in your response) on the road to total Pavlovian stimulus/response but THERE IS HELP! And you can do it BY YOURSELF! I know that's a bit scary, but YES YOU CAN! Every morning, just after you wake up,find a scrap of paper and scribble "I AM AN INDEPENDENT THINKER" on it with a pencil or crayon. Put it deep into your pocket, where only you can touch it. Every time you are tempted to respond to a post by someone who you consider to be a troll (because they are saying something that is obviously Wrong and Bad) just touch the paper with your fingers and think about thinking without guidance from your trainer. Seriously, it works!

Then GTFO. Don't you have a church to go to, or maybe masturbate to your guns?

Oh, my. More proggie talking points. Wow, THAT was original! Not. But in answer, no. All the churches have thrown me out, and I like to keep my guns clean and ready for action, thank you very much.

jigger: In 42,000 years, Alpha Centauri (pictured) becomes the nearest star system to the Sun once more, as nearby Ross 248 recedes.

They should have been a little bit more explicit with this.

That's interesting. What's the source, I'd like to look into that further.

Also, I've heard mention elsewhere that the Oort Cloud may actually *share* material with a similar cloud around Alpha Centauri. The Oort Cloud has always fascinated me, ever since I read "Starchild." Any good sources on the Oort Cloud and, specifically, possible sharing?

Thanks

Makes you wonder why he comes here at all

To shake my head in amused amazement at cliquish and superficial proggie posts, of course.

earthwirm: My Boss... Soon to be ex-Boss believes that the earth is only 8,000 years old based on genealogical evidence linking Adam to Jesus...

I work in a high-tech field for a local government entity.

I now understand all the illogical decisions that have been made for the past year. If you believe something as wrong as the earth being 8,000 years old how can you be trusted to make the right decisions about complex computing systems?

ZOMFG! A government agency? This means that believing in Jebus means that you should not be trusted with any technological or authoritative decisions. Atheism should be a litmus test for all private technical management positions, and ALL government employment, at any level. Seriously. Do you want superstitious morons who believe it fairy tales making important decisions?

Nem Wan: bighairyguy: Looks like we only need wait out global warming for about 50,000 years.

Offset by the increased energy output from the Sun as it ages...
