The problem with Mafia Wars (in 2010) was script bots that ruined the experience. Why play when you can have your robot do it for you? I quit and never tried MW2, and thank FSM, that game's addictive.

I'm not prepared to keep pouring money into a game like that, especially when the DLC sometimes is already on the disk and you're paying just to unlock it.

I played Farmville for a bit, but quit because it was just too damn repetitive. Even my son quit playing that and Petville and whatever else. No way I would pay for stuff in those games.

I'm really not too sure why people get so irritated by DLC (on-disk or not.) IMO, the only real decision is whether you are happy with the game provided for the price it was provided for.

If you like the game they sold you for $60 and consider it worth the price, why does the fact that there was more data on-disk that you have access to offend you? If they later want to sell you a code that turns on that unavailable data for $10 then you decide if that extra content is worth $10 to you.

If you weren't happy with the original content at $60 then there's no reason to buy the game at all.

To me, the big problem is that smaller studios have demonstrated that a quality game can be bought for a helluva lot less than $60, which is making the prices we've been paying for "premium" games for the last few decades seem exorbitant.

Doesn't have to be on user feedback. There's always that situation where they have to make cuts to hit the release deadline and have some content that's 90% done, but isn't there yet and it didn't go through testing. IMHO, that's the best candidate for DLC; things that were intended on being in there since the start.

Only justification I can think of for on-disc DLC is if the game itself costs less than the $60 price point and the on-disc DLC brings it up to that... like a way of releasing a "light" version of the game w/o having two SKUs; say, Halo w/o the multiplayer or something. And that's never, NEVER how it gets used.

I recently downloaded the Baulder's Gate Enhanced Edition for my iPad...it was all the brutal experience i remembered.

I did all the quests in Candlekeep, went through the usual storyline,

met up with Imoen and we go off to our first real fight.

this saddens me so much, in june of 2010 my 2 and a half year old Grand Daughter passed away,i set petville up in her memory,redid rooms in her favorite colors and just kinda kid themed it,renamed my pet after her and when ever i needed to feel close to her would go play and just try to remember happy times,i want my pet back why coulld you not just let us keep our already set up game

The biggest issue is not the original purchase, but rahter if you want to have an enjoyable experience online with other friends who also have the game, it's very frustrating to be the one without the DLC. Rather than take away from others' enjoyment, I usually leave the game so they can use the DLC and get the expanded experience for which they've paid.

It's frustrating to buy a game a month after other people to find that there's already DLC out, so the chances of playing multiplayer with other friends (who more often than not have bought the DLC) are essentially very low. So, I just don't buy the games now.

I understand about the licensing, but it's ridiculous to lock out content on a disk that I ALREADY PURCHASED. So, I say to heck with it. As you suggested, I've decided that it's usually NOT worth it for me because I already paid for the disk and feel I should have all access to the disk's content, especially with what some of these games bring in financially (Halo, Call of Duty, etc).

This is a pretty great idea actually, the problem would be, "but I need an iOS/Android/OS X/Linux/MsBOB version of the pet program!" The UI is platform independent, but the back-end probably isn't. What I don't understand is why they don't just start merging up the games with small populations onto the same servers. Lose half the people from two games, stick them on the same machine. Seriously, in the era of virtualization, you might as well just leave your games up, discontinue support, and let nature take its course. So what if the entirety of PetVille becomes a single thread running at lowest priority somewhere?

Of course, if your entire revenue stream isn't based on people making purchases to enjoy your game but rather making purchases to wave around in front of OTHER people... well then, that might not be a possibility for you. So, I guess what I'm saying is Zynga's games suck.

I feel like I'm playing devil's advocate here since I've only purchased one AAA title in the last few years (X-Com) but I feel the need to point out that you may have purchased the delivery medium, you never purchased that DLC/ODC. It would be a similar concept of expecting every channel to be unlocked when you get your cable installed.

I like steam sales, while I'm hard pressed to think any DLC is worth $20 (F-you EA and your sims franchise that my girlfriend loves! :P) I'll put down the $5 or so their worth whenever steam puts them on sale though. Having said that Zynga is dying in a fire and I'm okay with that, its about time.

If I had invested money in those games (I'm guessing you can buy items in the game) then I would tell Zynga that they have to reimburse me for a product I can no longer use.
