...and yet... I can sympathise to some degree with someone feeling a sense of a loss about no longer getting to feel like they have as much of a special appreciation for something. Most of us have skills, hobbies, interests, and what-have-you that we use to help define ourselves. To some extent almost everybody wants to be a special little snowflake in some manner (even many of the people who love to use that term derisively for coddled people). It seems like a pretty basic human trait (even many rather boring people, even in the most conformist societies, probably get some twinge of satisfaction if they're distinctively good at something or noticeable in some way they consider positive) and if a hobby or interest suddenly becomes the norm, it can be disconcerting.

It seems pretty dumb and self-defeating to renounce appreciation of a work simply because growth in its popularity, however. Sorta cutting off your nose to spite your face, really.

Tennant was a great physical actor, and the drawn-out departure slowed the pace down and "humanized" the part really well. It left the door open for Smith to be a more distant and angry, yet comically ADHD/Asperger character in order to change things up a bit.

Smith's goofy face, beady eyes and nearly-missing eyebrows still annoy me. But his acting and the stories are fun.

Am I the only one who learned this about Armstrong's Moon Landing words like... decades ago?

on a side note... apparently Douglas Adams wrote a storyline for Doctor Who that was never made... they recently published it , my son is a fan of the doctor and I got it for him for Christmas... along with a Tom Baker scarf (all 12 feet of it).
