I too was confused. From Wikipedia: corn, is a grain domesticated by indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica in prehistoric times. The leafy stalk produces ears which contain seeds called kernels. Though technically a grain, maize kernels are used in cooking as a starch. The Olmec and Mayans cultivated it in numerous varieties throughout Mesoamerica

What did your "first" of any new skill set project look like?
Those look pretty good and it is a good bet that if they have found 4 sites that date to a specific time range that the start of that technology predates these examples somewhat. Think of how many of these must have existed if these 4 are still there now.

Yup, that how the rest of the non-North American world uses the term 'corn' (which, BTW, means "grain" in Germanic languages). BTW, it looks like einkorn, an archaic variety of wheat.
