The demise of Jolt Cola was a devastating blow to night owls like me. Thanks for reminding me of it. Bastard.

Ecto Cooler wasn't a soda per se. Non-carbonated and all.

Still needs to be brought back.

I only drank Jolt once, and it was a revelation. I think I was 12 or so. I saw god. I think I saw my ancestors. The only thing that could have made it better is if I were in a desert on some spiritual journey.

"All the sugar and twice the caffeine!"  I loved how Jolt Cola claimed that it was "inspired by the need for a better tasting soft drink" yet not a single person I knew who ever drank the stuff did it for the flavor.  Nope, we did it to stay awake when we absolutely had to and didn't feel like drinking convenience store coffee.

When did Jolt ever make that claim? They were targeting people like me who stayed up all night and made no bones about it.

There are recipes floating around for making your own artificial Ecto Cooler. I've yet to try one, mainly because I don't know if tangerine juice is a readily available commodity around me.

*tips hat*

Not subby here, but I don't even mind Ecto Cooler being lumped in with the soda-pops.

I'm just glad that the Ecto Cooler faithful are still represented.

Yeah, a lot of those float around here from time to time.

Sooner or later, I'm gonna have to crack down and try 'em.

Ah, the fine print. I missed that. The old can was all but a memory by the time I was old enough to drink it without sneaking it past my mother. In truth, though, it did taste better than Coke and RC, though (IMO) not Pepsi.

And as far as the "inspired by the need for a better tasting soft drink" line.... for some reason that comes off to me the same as the "Created by a School Teacher" line on "Airborne".... silly, unnecessary taglines on the product.

Jolt did nothing much for me, and I didn't like the flavor compared to other sodas.  I guess it had a greater effect on other people.

The plain can that says "Soda"? That's what us oldsters call "Generic". Used to be a whole line of products. Everything from "Soda" to "Corn Flakes" and "Beer" to "Cigarettes". Got replaced when store brands started getting popular.

Generic brand stuff sort of went through a period where there was just a stark package with a label. I remember more of the plain yellow packaging, saying things like "BREAD" or "MACARONI AND CHEESE PRODUCT", but it's the same deal.

I can't find a picture of it, but they used to make a Mandarin Orange variety of Slice (not just "orange"). God, that stuff was pure ambrosia.

It's a generic cola.

Yes, they were in real stores too, not just movies.

Jolt and 100 proof rum made a killer 'rum and coke'.

Just an FYI - Jolt Cola is still made and readily available. Its in the Energy Drink section of my local Woodmans.

From my youth:

canmuseum.com

I only ever got that when I was on my way to Pittsburgh. Laurel Springs had the concession contract, HoJo's had the rest area contract, and Gulf had the gas contract. Now they're tearing down and rebuilding the rest areas and my youth is rapidly disappearing. But I can still get Cherikee Red if I look for it.

Best cream soda of all time, bar none. My grandmother used to get this by the case for when I would come over, which was usually three times a week.

Ugh, I remember that LifeSavers soda. It was a vile fruit punch that (thankfully) didn't really taste like LifeSavers. Not as bad as Squeezeit, but close.

Anyone remember Pepsi Storm? They eventually pulled the caffeine out and renamed it Sierra Mist for some reason. At the time it seemed like Pepsi's answer to Coke's Surge, which was stupid because Pepsi already made Mtn Dew.

Actually wait, let me correct that. Storm only had caffeine if you bought it in cans/bottles. If you got it from a soda fountain it didn't have caffeine. PepsiCo is run by dicks, basically.

Cola-brand cola is still made, picked this one up at Walmart. Don't know if it's by the same company or not, though.
