Any enterprise that regularly participates in knowingly enabling child rapists to find and exploit victims is generally not worth supporting.

So, in closing, fark the church and their supporters.

Have you read any of the news about them lately?  They don't contribute a whole lotta good to the world.  Don't be surprised when they get called out on that.

Ah, a sermon from the man whose job it was to sweep child-molesting allegations under the carpet and enable thousands of molesters to continue destroying lives.

The position the Holy See took against the use of condoms to combat the AIDS epidemic in Africa probably had a much larger cost in human misery but there are so many reasons to be disgusted by the Catholic Church it's hard to choose just one.

There was a time when people respected other peoples right to freedom of religion. I've not been on Fark that long so I don't know if it ever existed here.

You mean there are people who don't realize that Christ was a communist???? Now that is really a pathetic lack of awareness of the fundamentals of the religion to which you attest your faith.

You have the right to freedom of religion until you start raping kids and all of the other bullshiat that impacts those not adhering to their particular flavor of sky wizard.

The problem isn't that the wealthy are wealthy, it's that they actively seek to keep the poor poor. Because, unless there are people who are poor, then no one is 'wealthy'.

Is the church a good church to you ?

Well, there are some good Catholic organizations out there doing charity work.
I don't count missionaries, just people providing help with necessities and volunteering their time.

Of course, they're the people at the bottom and not the "executives" of the church like ol' Palpatine here.

2013-01-01 07:58:07 PM
Some time in the future, when we move beyond religion, I will look forward to watching the wealth gathered through centuries of death, torture, theft, suppression, and lies reclaimed by the world.

And the headline doesn't even say anything of how much more good the church could do if it got rid of all their luxuries and devoted more of their tithes to actually feeding, clothing, and otherwise helping the poor.

Also, Tim Minchin, the Pope Song. Look it up.

2013-01-01 07:59:53 PM
I used to roll my eyes at threads like this, since the pope isn't looting other corps and laying off thousands, and while he has use of the church's riches, he doesn't own them.

on the other hand;

I went to midnight mass with/to appease my mom and was, seeing red, enraged.

I was enraged by learning what the Bishop's reaction to us uppity parishioner's demanding, in no uncertain terms, to put the house in order; was to change the wording of the spoken responses.

The responses were altered to make us think more about our own sins as a none to subtle glass houses attempt, and/or brainwash us into thinking we are much to wretched to dare criticize the oh so holy Bishops

I hung on because I know of an actual priest who works very hard at helping the disadvantaged in my local area but after this... fark em.

Agreed.

The Church does more harm than good, especially when one considers how far reaching their influence is.

You have a right to your freedom of religion.  You do not have freedom from criticism of your religion.  Deal with it.

The Roman Catholic Church's wealth did not come from unregulated capitalism, which is what the Pope talked about in his speech.

For an enlightened people who claims that they do not judge prematurely, there seems to me that many of you believe that catholics = child molesters. Sorry to burst your bubble, but thats like saying Muslims=terrorists

It belongs in a Museum!

The Vatican Museums, maybe?
