Monkeyhouse Zendo: blacksho89: mittromneysdog: blacksho89: You know, I usually defend the Roman church in these threads, as most of you Farkers are such knee jerk morans that you will hate on anybody with different beliefs. But in this case? The headline is 100%. Where the fark does Benny think his money came from?

The Roman Catholic Church's wealth did not come from unregulated capitalism, which is what the Pope talked about in his speech.

It came from unbridled feudalistic kleptocracy. Is that better?

I would have gone with extorted it from the poor and ignorant under the threat of eternal torture but I'm sure there's a little from column A and a little from column B.

Not much difference between "eternal torture" and OMG What about the CHILDREN!" of our current batch of redistributors.

cman: You do realize that many Islamic leaders are calling for the destruction of Israel, right? There are also many who want us to suffer the same. When it comes to terrorism, I believe that the leaders in the mosques repeatedly chose to protect terrorists over Jews. This enables the people to be terrorists. Its only the muslims that defend the leaders who could be labeled as enablers for terrorists. Go ahead and argue that the logic is wrong.

Why would I bother arguing? You made up a situation without any details, and are trying to say it's the same logic. It's not. Come back when you have specifics as to who these people where, and what the "leaders in the mosques repeatedly did to protect terrorists". In the meantime: Link

Yep.  No good whatsoever.  None of those hospitals with saint in their name, no parochial schools, not the  largest charity operation in the history of the world, etc

All of which can be done in a secular way, and with WAY less child raping.

I used to try to cut muslims a break since it wasn't the rank and file muslims that were bombing buildings but I eventually got to the point where I realized that without the belief in a fast track to paradise, you wouldn't have all those suicide bombers so the problem wasn't the terrorists themselves but Islam itself.

So, yeah, fark Islam too and fark any religion that tells you that you have any life other than the one right in front of you and that you should sacrifice this life for an afterlife.

Without the escape clause of martyrdom you'd see a lot fewer people willing to sacrifice their lives in order to blow up a building. Even the fundamentalist christians go in for one on one murder rather that a vest of c4 and ball bearings.

Impressive.... From your link:

And because (Sunni) Islam, unlike other monotheistic religions, lacks a universally recognized center of legitimacy, such as the Vatican for the Catholics, there is no universally recognized central body able to determine who is a "true" Muslim and who is not.

So, there is no over-arching organization protecting these terrorists or their terrorist-supporting imans. This, as your article points out, is exactly opposite of the catholic church.

PhiloeBedoe: Don't forget the upside-down cross on the back of that throne...

The idea that the upside down cross is an evil sign comes from people who don't understand the history of their own religion. St. Peter was crucified upside down (according to tradition) because he felt he was not worthy to be executed in the same manner as Jesus.

So now you are starting to at least get a little specific. If you can show me examples of terrorists, their religious leaders who protected and supported them, and the people who protect and support the religious leaders then you you might have something close to the situation I was pointing out (which, I would totally agree they are all a bunch of d-bags).

However, I am not going to label all catholics or all muslims as horrible people. Only the ones that fit the aforementioned criteria.

Whereas toddlers are not usually in a position to put forth this level of argument, nor decide it is worth while to do so, I think this thread is about whether or not the Pope is rich and simultaneously denounces those who seek extravagant materialistic gains. I am sure the papal life is grand confined luxury and all, but I would not care to trade positions. There's too much self-flagellation at dusk and church time for me to stomach.
