Fourteen years without a blemish?
She was probably stealing money on a regular basis and spending it on skin cream.

"Audit admitted that he had not bothered to find out whether any money was actually missing from the town funds."

If only there were a common process for doing just that.

It's like they needed a system of checking the accounts and making sure they were correct. If only there was a word for it.

Under that logic, you're a child molester.

No, it means he might be a child molester. Good try though.

Not necessarily. He just hasn't been caught yet.

padraig: So, let me get this straight : you can work 30 years somewhere, contribute to the pension funds all those years, and then lose everything because you were fired one week before retirement ? How is that fair ?

America, what a country !

Not exactly / usually. Most places have levels of pensions based on your years of service. Odds are for there it is 30 years for the *full* pension, with a sliding percentage down for years beneath that.

BizarreMan: Everybody missed my point.

How many stories have you read in your local news where the trusted bookkeeper, office manager, accountant is busted for embezzlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars having been the "perfect"
employee for a very long time. Positing that she must be innocent because she has an unblemished record is complete and utter bullshiat.

The fact that no money was found missing makes her innocent. Not her record.

Whatever. Child molester.

The problem is that they couldn't find any missing money, which means we are clearly dealing with a master criminal who steals $100 bills and replaces them with different $100 bills to cover her tracks.

30 years and close to retirement

Pension it is

Nah.  Never attribute to malice what is easily explained by stupidity.  The police chief sent a non-attorney to prosecute this case, and admitted that he never counted the money to see if any was missing.  Nobody that stupid knows what a pension is.

The clerk's only statement was:
"I wasn't even supposed to work that day!"

Remember kiddies, if you hang them you can kill all the goblins involved in this for a couple of bucks. Rope is reusable. Be financially responsible, demand recyclable death

Whatever. You child molester. Go back to wanking it to the kiddie porn that the police haven't found yet.

Well, there might be slots open for Police Chief and Lieutenant pretty soon.

/Here's hoping.

He might be a child molester, he might not be a child molester, but there seems to be an awful lot of talk about him and child molesting, so I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that he is, indeed, a child molester. Why be half-safe?

Satanic_Hamster: I'd sue the hell out of them. And how can a cop act as a prosecutor?

That's nothing. In the South the cop would act as the prosecutor, judge, jury, and executioner.
