I think I speak for farkers everywhere when I say that he merely tied for that second record.

Yeah, you're really not helping that stereotype of Canadians as boring.

Maybe he tried to have sex with one of the larger ones. Help us out here, guy.

I'd love to have the money to go on a "cat tour" and see various wild cats from around the world in their natural habitats, that'd be pretty awesome.

So the guy saw a lot of birds at the tradeoff of not setting a lot of birds

/even this is a slow news day for Canada

I saw every species of bird on the planet in 2012, and that was just in a 5-day period.

If that 'arctic falcon' was an escaped captive he can't count it for listing purposes.

Why the nerd hate for birding? It's a non-consuming hobby which does no harm. You know, the 'take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints' sort of activity.

Article says he has a girlfriend.

Oh wait, this is the part where we all snark on someone with an uncommon passion as having no life and not being as interesting as the rest of us, all feeling smug an superior while sipping mountain dews and sitting in front of our laptops laughing at him.

I know, I know, welcometofark.jpg...

My Mother got a Christmas decoration with two Cardinals in it for Christmas. They're both males. Meh. So people who design ornaments don't know a lot about birds. They know what sells.

I saw a brilliantly-coloured male cardinal myself in December. My walk to work takes me through a bird and wildlife hotspot and I get to see a lot of interesting birds and animals that one very seldom finds a stone's throw from down town anywhere else. It's like walking through a Canadian Wildlife Service vignette.

Birdwatchers are actually really cool, in my experience. If you live near a national park and put feeders out with plenty of seed and suet, they'll show up, and if you let them use the bathroom and give them a cup of cocoa they will organize your bookshelves or help with your tax returns. They don't crap on cars, they don't pick on other species and they're usually really good at picking out camera equipment.

I've been putting out extra sunflower seeds in advance of the W-2 season.

That's a lot of culinary variety.

Nice work! I need to upgrade my camera gear and get back into it more. Got a nice short-eared owl the other day though, so hey.

I dated an ornithologist for a year. There were plenty of opportunities to fark outside while "bird watching".

There is nothing more nerdy about birding than me sitting on my ass playing video games.

There are actually ornithologist groupies - you may have to put up with unshaven legs and pits, but they have no problem making the long nights in tents go past pretty quickly.....

Yeah, came for 'The Big Year' reference but derived no satisfaction from it; a very so-so movie and I know this because I've tried to watch it three times and can't get more than 15 minutes into any one section before I get bored.

Jack Black isn't funny, Owen Wilson can't act and Steve Martin looks like he's thinking about the art work his pay check will buy.

Birders are fanatical about their calling and since they don't get much reward out of seeing lots of birds, there isn't a lot of reason for them to lie. I'm sure some of them do, but they're mainly lying to themselves.

But if you mug one, you can probably get some very nice binoculars that cost $1000.

Nice, I'm not a numbers kind of guy in general but it was awesome being on the West coast for several consecutive weeks for business with my weekends free. I got to add a lot of birds to my list.
