people paid to do it, is the default assumption.  Then the next question is, who keeps greening them.  Like with any political conspiracy, follow the money.

I've always presumed the submissions come from people who don't actually like WND, but want an easy greenlight. At Fark, nothing is guaranteed to generate irritation like WND does. If I were a whoremitter I'd likely do the same thing.

Search your feelings, subby. You know this to be true.

Somebody who thinks the accepted submissions stat is a score counter. Superderp = automatic greenlight since it has a good chance of attracting the various right-wing fark trolls and generating a pages long argument that may or may not have anything to do with the submitted article.

Somebody really ought to write a book about manipulative assholes who sell stupid as infotainment....

It was a plan to make a super roadway from Mexico up through Texas.

So obviously building this was proof to the tin foil hat squad that there is a secret plot to combine the US, Mexico and Canada into one country and force your kids to speak Spanish eat burritos and play hockey.

FTFA:TxDOT picked Cintra in 2005 to build what some critics called the "NAFTA Super Highway."

Ignoring the weasle word and the uncited 'critics'; I'm glad there are no highways that travels from the mexican border to anywhere in Texas, much less to across the United States all the way to Canada.

Its called I35, I live next to it. A semi goes by in either direction every 3 seconds at a minimum at all hours. This is not hyperbole, this is not false, this is a FACT. 3am? truck every 3 seconds, both directions. I sit in my hot tub and watch in amazement. 7 years ago it wasn't even close to this number. No toll road will fix this. Nothing will fix this.

I live 5 blocks way from it in Austin. The Toll roads were "supposed" to divert trucks from going through the city. Guess what? They'd rather drive through 15 MPH traffic. The real issue with the Trans-Texas corridor is that they want to use eminent domain laws to steal the land that surrounds the highway. So ask yourself this...Should Americans that own property be forced to sell it because Rick Perry wants to give the right of way to a foreign multi-national corporation? And were aren't just talking about easements here. They want all the land around the road for their handpicked vendors. And they want to turn the roads that are already bought and paid for into private toll roads, which is outright theft from the citizens of Texas.

Our three methods are rail, truck, air and an almost fanatical devotion to low priced petroleum based fuels.

Oh, good lord, I am about to agree with Jerome Corsi.

The problem here is allowing some outside company to collect rent on public assets.

It's like the parking meter deal here in Chicago. We are exporting cash to a foreign company for the "right" to park on our own streets. The price of parking has quadrupled. They're vacuuming away our cash instead of putting that money into local infrastructure.

It's like the disasters where countries give foreigners control of their water supplies. It's like foreign companies trying to take ownership of Iceland's geothermal energy.

The project got put on the back burner because of the death in 1997 of Ric Williamson, Perry's chief toady for the project.

Texas has lowered taxes so much that even with bone-deep cuts in social services and education there simply isn't enough revenue to run the state. Solution: sell it off piecemeal for the immediate payoff. In five years you'll have to pay a toll to get out of your driveway.

thamike: It's as if living next to a highway is almost exactly what it sounds like.

I think the point is the volume of traffic. Constant volume 24/7 is not a good thing for any road and indicates something might need to be looked at by some highway engineers.

I used to live right next to the 405 in Los Angeles, near the 405/10 interchange.  My apartment building even had a rooftop hot tub overlooking the highway.  About  30 yards separated me and the most crowded major highway in the U.S.  I found it soothing, but maybe Angelenos are more cautious about reckless honking than Texans are.  Doubtful though.

so its better for a private foreign company to own it and make a profit off tax payers, but not ok for the government to run it?
