Oh well, they did absolutely everything they could to avoid this. Everything except, you know, working and compromising and putting the interests of the country before their own ideology.

They sure did talk a lot though. And they blamed everyone but themselves. And they sighed and wailed and gashed their teeth. I don't know what more we could have asked of them.

Technically, 100 Bachmanns equal one Perry. 100 Perries equals one Palin. There is no unit higher than the Palin, so we're forced to use MegaPalin.

Obama is ruining this country. Haven't you seen all the warning signs? Obama was born on the Kingdom of Hawaii. The Kingdom of Hawaii was ruled by a Monarchy/Dictator. This tax increase on the rich is leading us towards the road to dictatorship under Obama and towards a unprecedented third term.

When you have companies such as Hobby Lobby or other small businesses employing over 50 workers resisting certain parts of the healthcare law over religious freedom, something is wrong in this country.

Get rid of the mortgage tax deduction and several other tax deduction programs. This will increase revenue without raising taxes on the wealthy. I don't think when you're trying to pay your bills and deep in debt that asking the rich should pay more in taxes.

Let's pretend that we aren't borrowing trillions a year and that most of it goes to entitlements. Let's pretend that Europe hasn't been doing this longer than we have, and aren't all going down the fiscal toilet. Boehner should tell Obama there will be no deal unless the tax increases on the rich are taken off the table. Why should we be raising taxes on the rich and let those who are not rich a free pass?

I'll put it in simple numbers. Tax a millionaire an extra 5% and he loses $50,000 to the government . . . .

Tax a millionaire $50,000 and $50,000 disappears from someone who knows how to make millions of dollars and goes to a bunch of bureaucrats and politicians who only know how to buy votes, protect their turf and waste money in ways that would boggle the mind of most honest people.  That money's gone, and if it creates a job or otherwise sustains or nourishes a human being, it will be completely by accident.

If you let the rich keep their money, they will use that money to make more money. If you give that money to poor people, they will use that money to make more poor people.

And that's just the pragmatic argument.  We're not even getting into the moral problem of any group of people taking $50,000 from anyone just because they think they will spend it more intelligently and morally than the  victim taxpayer.

Seriously, just WTF is wrong with you people!  At least when religious zealots try to control people and their property through laws, they've got a voice in their head or a 2000 year old book telling them to do it.  Libtard socialists don't even have that.  All you have to promote your ideas---ideas which have failed every single farking time they've been tried in every modern civilized country--are some vague notions of social justice to gloss over what any honest, rational person would recognize as motives based in envy and misanthropy.

Wow.

How can someone as stupid as you NOT be on my Fav list in red already!

Cubs300: Funk Brothers: Good.

Bigdogdaddy: So, what's going to happen if we go over the "cliff" and things get better? Will this prove to the right wingers that higher taxes on them won't shut down the economy?

If it goes either way, they are screwed. Sucks to shiat in your own bed and have to lie in it.

The 10% across the broad government cuts will depress the economy. Result in millions of unemployed (increasing entitlement spending too) and lead to a shrinking government (A new recession). All of which is basic Keynsian economics.

The most amazing thing about this is republicans are acknowledging this Keynsian effect now, yet have completely rejected Keynsian economics in the face of the gravest financial crisis to hit the world in 80 years.

Infernalist: BronyMedic: Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Republican Party do this under the Clinton-2 Administration? And didn't it backfire miserably for them then?

Roughly. They shut down the government for some stupid reason or another and tried to blame Clinton for it. The public, showing remarkable ability to ignore their lies, blamed the GOP instead.

Newt Gingrich shut it down because Clinton snubbed him on AF1. We're dealing with a house that is even less rational than that.

Scary.

Get Back to Work!

Mrbogey: Ambivalence: Oh well, they did absolutely everything they could to avoid this. Everything except, you know, working and compromising and putting the interests of the country before their own ideology.

They sure did talk a lot though. And they blamed everyone but themselves. And they sighed and wailed and gashed their teeth. I don't know what more we could have asked of them.

Compromise can not work when the fundamental issue has no compromise. The Democrats don't want any entitlement reform. The Republicans want something as far as entitlement reform. Congrats, you won the election but the Republicans still have a base they need to represent.

There's been plenty of entitlement reform in the past 3 years.  Obamacare had significant reforms to Medicare and Medicaid. Sure, we could use more entitlement reform though. Like reforming those farm subsidies for vacation ranches in Colorado and Montana, The gigantic tax breaks for Exron, Defense Spending...

Sadly, the only entitlement reform republicans seem willing to accept is the killing off of SS, Food Stamps, WIC and the like....when they reference drowning government in a bath tub, this is what they actually mean.

Okay...This is how I heard it. I'm sure you folks will jump on any inaccuracies here....

The Republicans said 'Fine, we'll compromise. You can increase the taxes for everybody who makes more than a million a year'.
Obama said 'Nope. Gotta increase the taxes on everybody making 400-something thousand a year and up.'
Reps said 'No. Taxing the people who make a million or more will be plenty'.
Obama said 'No. If you don't go along with what I said, we'll just have to increase everybody's taxes across the board'.
Reps replied 'yeah. no. There's no need to do that'.
Obama replied 'fine, I'll tax the fark out of everybody, you unreasonable pricks'

Yes, let's keep pretending that we don't know that even if we taxed the top 1% (or it it the 2% these days? So hard to keep up) the entirety of their income- a 100% tax rate- it would only pay for about a week and change of the federal government (nevermind state taxes). Let's pretend that we aren't borrowing trillions a year and that most of it goes to entitlements. Let's pretend that Europe hasn't been doing this longer than we have, and aren't all going down the fiscal toilet. Let's pretend that we can just give everything to everyone, and things will work out.

Or, you know, we could be adults and limit the budget to what we actually take in. Just a thought.

heap: iaazathot: Wow, I mean WOW! How stupid do you have to be to do what the Republicans are doing?

the fist step to answering this question is arriving at a common measurement or unit of stupidity.

43 MegaPalins would be my guess, but i could see others opting for a Perry or Bachmann based measurement.

Bachmann is the accepted SI unit, since it's Swiss.

Because the rich are supposed to be job creators. But unemployment is, after many years, still at 8%.

The rich have been lazy and have failed at their job of being job creators. Therefore they forfeit their protected status of being trickle-down voodoo economics job creators. No more handouts from the middle class to the rich for being lazy bums.
