I thought this seemed a little interesting at first, and then I saw that he was charging 5k per rock. Are you kidding me? I know he's got to feed his family and all, but it sort of takes the fun of it away when I find out he's not just doing it because he had a passion for it.

I bet painting rocks is a bigger accomplishment than anything subby has done.

Have you seen the prices of good quality paint that will last a while lately?
/a large rock is going to take quite a bit of paint.

5K per rock plus expenses, one rock every 3 weeks, 99 rocks.
Eh, not a bad gig to get I guess.
Not going to get rich, but cerianly won't be a starving artist.

So one could reach the county seat within 24 hours from anywhere in the county. Seems silly now, but in 1846, it made sense.

Why yes, I'm an Iowa native

Could be a lot worse.

I hear the "artist" was paid like 500,000 for this ugly piece of shiat

People have been suing to get that ugly shiat removed since before it was put up.

As an Iowa native, I have no thoughts on the subject. However, I had some unnatural thoughts about the young lady who was apparently stuck in Altoona 10 days ago (video link was on the page).

Mega Steve: 99 COUNTIES??? What the fark for?

Back in the day, let's say 1850-1860, it took a while to get around, so the borders were drawn so that it would take a day or less to travel to the county seat for gov't business and such. Iowa's square counties are all about 600 mi2, meaning each side is about 25 miles.

Now, why 99 counties? Well, if you take a look at a map of Iowa, you'll see  Kossuth County sticks out, as it is the size of any two counties to the east and west. I think they are just farking with us.

You got us there.

Although we may have the occasional shirtless hobo sprinting across the five lanes known as Broadway with a case of Natty Ice in tow on a weekday morning, thanks to all of the "Adderall" we consume, we happen to have impeccable concentration and focus behind the wheel. Life is a lot simpler over here. We only have to worry about the houses with tinfoil covering the windows "spontaneously combusting", but not terrible driving, especially after the first snow every year. No, that is for you, Omaha. I experienced this first hand after the first significant winter storm of the season, where there were no major thoroughfares left untouched by Omahans engaging in collisions. It was if Mayor Suttle had announced that it was destruction derby day in Omaha and that all citizens would get $100 gift certificates to Applebee's if they obstructed enough traffic.

Yeah. Does each county have like, 2 or 3 towns? My state has 16 counties and it's bigger than all the other New England states put together.

Well, if you name a county after a Hungarian freedom fighter, it better be the biggest county of the state.

/jk, I didn't know there was a county in US named after him

so that explains why Georgia has 154 counties. They're a little slower around there.

154?  As much as I hate to, I guess I have to give County Boys here a lot more credit.
