RexTalionis: People still own VCRs?
SuperT: I don't need a 200$ big phone. It just doesn't fill a need for me.
meteorite: I've got a tablet and absolutely love it. I'm a 34 year old guy who is going back to school full time. I don't have a smart phone either. For a fe hundred dollars I got something I can connect to the Internet with just about where that has wifi. With that I can email, play on the Internet, make phonecalls for free with Talkatone and Google voice, and watch Netflix. Not only that but the majority of people in my classes will print out all the PowerPoint presentations the teachers put online, take notes on them, and then file them in giant binders hat they use to study from. When it comes time for study groups, they haul the big binders and text books with them. I probably could run do most of that stuff with a laptop instead but I like having something smaller and lighter. Not only that but classes often go from 8:30-2:30 and then I'll study after classes get out for a while as well and most laptop batteries won't go that long. Instead of having the big binders that everyone else has or worrying about if my laptop battery will lot long enough I just use my iPad and I'm good to go for the day. I'm perfectly fine with the onscreen keyboard as well.
Diagonal: Actually, even the phone is far more than I really need. All I really need in a phone is the ability to call numbers, remember numbers, store numbers, keep a calendar, and have a GPS (maybe five times a year?). What all that other stuff is for I have no idea. Why send text messages? Why not just call and actually talk to someone. To me texting has an underlying premise, "You are important enough for me to pester but not important enough for me to call and talk to. You're basically some kind of flopping appendage that needs occasional attention.
gopher321: I hope to god they never stop making desktops - the only computer type I bother to use.As long as there are homes, I guess, there will always be a home-based computer type.
Crunch61: I still have a cell phone that's just a cell phone and all my TVs are CRTs. They work just fine. Why replace them?/what do you do with a used 150-pound CRT TV anyway?
Keshire: cryinoutloud: Oh poor me. I don't own all the latest and greatest consumer products that some mega-corporation told me I "needed." Excuse me now while I die of shame.Right. I don't need all those nick knacks. I have a desktop. That's all I need. No pads, no cells. The worst thing is people bringing me their stuff and asking me to jail break it so they can make it work more like a desktop. I know someone that has a hacked Xbox/Xbox360, Playstation3, Android Phone/Tablet, Nintendo DS(flashcart). All hacked to do the same things as each other.

Lord Dimwit: In other words, I have yet to figure out what a tablet does for me. Watching a movie on a plane? I guess that's okay, but I can do that on my phone which I was going to take with me anyway so it's one fewer thing to carry through security. Play games? Phone has all the games I want....

hoots_toot_ochaye: RexTalionis: People still own VCRs?Why yes, yes I do. And I still use it too. I've got things on VHS that haven't come out on DVD yet, and probably never will. Plus I've got stuff on VHS that I just don't care to go to the expense of replacing with DVD.
