The thing to remember about the National Enquirer is that the litmus test is not whether something is true, but whether its lawyers are convinced it will stand up in court. The key phrase is "Insiders believe" she is battling brain cancer.

Elvis wasn't murdered, everyone knows that. He died of heart failure in 1994 after slipping into a diabetic coma.

Agree on all points and here are 7 stories the NE got right...

1. Finding Ennis Cosby's Killer
When Bill Cosby's son Ennis was senselessly murdered on the shoulder of a Los Angeles freeway in 1997, The Enquirer took an odd step to help solve the case: it offered a $100,000 reward for information that led to the arrest and conviction of Cosby's killer. Papers usually just announce rewards that other groups are offering, and to some this bounty seemed a lot like The Enquirer's practice of paying its sources-a major taboo in mainstream journalism.

The reward worked, though. Witness Chris So learned of the huge reward and led police to the revolver used in the slaying by killer Mikhail Markhasev. The Enquirer also obtained copies of jailhouse letters that pointed to Markhasev's guilt. Thanks in part to this evidence, Markhasev received a sentence of life without parole, plus 10 years.

2. Walking in O.J. Simpson's Shoes
If you remember the O.J. Simpson murder trial, you surely can recall the infamous bloody footprint that was found at the crime scene. The print came from a Bruno Magli shoe, and the football star adamantly denied owning such a pair of kicks.

The Enquirer did some digging, though, and unearthed a photo of the Juice walking on the field at a 1993 Buffalo Bills game wearing a pair of Bruno Maglis. The paper then turned up a second photo of O.J. wearing the shoes. By the time his civil trial rolled around in 1996, Simpson was forced to admit, "I know I've had similar shoes."

3. Jesse Jackson's Family Tree Grows
In 2001, The Enquirer broke a story about Jesse Jackson fathering an illegitimate daughter with staffer Karin Stanford in 1999. Once The Enquirer scheduled its story on Jackson's dalliances, mainstream media outlets around the country started picking up on the paper's scoop. By the time The Enquirer's issue made it onto newsstands, Jackson had already issued a statement confirming the facts of the story.

4. Bob Dole Was Once Frisky
This story never really got any traction, but during the 1996 presidential campaign, The Enquirer unearthed a scoop about Republican candidate, illeist, and future Viagra spokesman Bob Dole having once had a mistress. According to Meredith Roberts, a Washington trade publication editor, she had been Dole's mistress from 1968 to 1970 during the candidate's first marriage.

Even though Dole was using a family values platform to oppose Bill Clinton, most papers chose not to run with this story. (There were allegations that Elizabeth Dole personally called the Washington Post and begged for the paper to kill the story.) The Enquirer, however, interviewed Roberts and eventually published the story. In those pre-Lewinsky days, though, most editors seemed to think a 30-year-old affair wasn't all that relevant, and the story never took off.

5. Gary Hart's Political Ship Sails
"Follow me around. I don't care. I'm serious. If anybody wants to put a tail on me, go ahead. They'd be very bored." Colorado senator and presidential hopeful Gary Hart issued this bizarre challenge to the media in a 1987 New York Times Magazine profile, just before his career spectacularly imploded.

Murmurs of Hart having an affair had been circulating around Washington, and the Miami Herald ran a story linking the senator to a Miami woman. Nothing concrete emerged until The Enquirer published a photo of 29-year-old model Donna Rice sitting in Hart's lap during a jaunt on Hart's yacht, Monkey Business. (Look closely and you'll see "Monkey Business Crew" written on Hart's shirt.) A week after The Enquirer published the picture of Hart and Rice, Hart dropped out of the 1988 presidential race.

6. The Enquirer Catches O.J. Again
You probably remember the firestorm of controversy that surrounded O.J. Simpson's "hypothetical confession" book If I Did It in 2007. The Enquirer actually broke the story of the book's existence in October 2006, complete with the correct title. Simpson's lawyers immediately denied that any such book project existed. Less than a year later, If I Did It hit bookstore shelves.

7. Rush Limbaugh Comes Clean
In 2003, The Enquirer ran a story in which conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh's housekeeper provided Limbaugh with a steady stream of OxyContin to feed his painkiller addiction. Although some media outlets turned up their noses at the Enquirer's scoop because the paper had paid housekeeper Wilma Cline for her story, law enforcement quickly confirmed that Limbaugh had purchased some 30,000 pills from Cline. Limbaugh then admitted on his show that he had a painkiller addiction and pledged to enter rehab.

I know an elderly lady who has the same type of brain cancer that killed Ted Kennedy. They were both diagnosed at the same time. She's still alive and mentally alert, although she can't speak and is confined to a wheelchair. I would say that her quality of life is fairly good, mostly because she was lucky enough to get admitted to a good nursing home, but she is definitely glad to be alive.

When I was a fundie right-winger, I despised Hillary. Over the last decade or so my views have changed, mostly due to getting an education and escaping the right-wing derposphere. When I think about who was in those days, I'm pretty embarrassed...especially by how readily I'd believe anything and everything bad about Hillary.

I hope she recovers and has another two or three decades to torment the wingnuts and idiots out there (and apparently in here).

tenpoundsofcheese: I hope the story is not true and that she is okay.
Good luck Mrs. Clinton!  I hope you get better soon.

That is a very decent thing for you to say.  Props.

No death is too vile for the Clintons. Selling Marc Rich a pardon for treason on the last day of Billy Jeff's presidency which he paid for by purchasing $100 million worth of copies of that assinine book after they left office is worth crucifying both of them for. It was the same way Jim Wright got paid off and no one in the media questioned the money made by the book any more than they questioned NOW for not attacking Billy Jeff for banging interns in the White House.

Publishing allows a lot of shady money to be laundered and the people who manufactured OJ's reasonable doubt defense got paid by becoming authors and selling books on subjects they had no expertise in.

If you see JJ Abrams headed to see her carrying a copy of the next Star Trek movie, then it will be safe to assume it's true.

I remember seeing one of these rags in the supermarket they other day. Not sure if it was the this one, but they claimed to have a video of OJ doing the murders. With a few screenshots. Bullshiat of course. Has anyone else seen this?

It's the National Enquirer. I'm no fan of the Clinton's, but I'll wait for a respectable news source to report on this.

Though, to be completely honest, even if this were true, I don't think anyone would report it until it could no longer be hidden. Kind of hard to have a political career when the voters know you have a brain tumor.

I saw that too. Can't remember which rag it was, but I nudged the Wife and said, "Y'know, that almost makes me want to buy it.".

I got The Look, and just shut up.

Best wishes Hil... not a big fan, but no one deserves cancer.

When Lyndon Johnson took office, he f**ed up everything he could lay his hands on, but he was gone in five years.

I did not think anyone could possibly be worse but Richard Nixon sure managed. He did more harm than Johnson but he was gone in six years---seemed longer.

However I first saw Hillary in 1990, and the damn bee--yitch JUST WILL NOT GO AWAY! It is 22 years and counting, and she's still there, with that whiny voice and that know--it---all attitude, which makes everyone so sick.

If she wins in 2016 and gets reelected, that will make 34 years; six times longer than Johnson and five times longer than Nixon.

Not a Hillary fan in any sense of the word but the folks talking about her lack of intelligence are way off base. Matter of fact, she is probably the smartest person in the Obama administration and I'd even go so far as to say that if she's had blinding headaches, it could be due to trying to make sense of the incoherence that is Obama's foreign policy. She is not only smarter, but far better versed in international affairs. Probably the smartest thing Obama did for himself was to get her to agree to be SoS. As much as I disagree with her domestic politics, she's done an admirable job. The foreign policy gaffes during this administration have come about in spite of her, not because of her. I'd never vote for her as President but she's done well as SoS.

That said, I heartily hope the rumors of brain cancer are wrong. I've watched 2 good friends die of it and it is not to be wished on anyone.

IntertubeUser: When I was a fundie right-winger, I despised Hillary.

Congrats on getting out of that cult. And yes, it is rather derpey in here.

FLMountainMan: Wow, lots of hate for Hillary on here. Kind of surprising, actually. You'd think she was a republican or something. Are libs hating her now too? Why?

They are Obama lovers first and foremost (although they have to live with the internal conflict that their beloved one appointed Hillary to begin with).

One of the saddest departures of a man reputation was Sen.John Glenn selling out for a ride on the space shuttle that Clinton arranged in return for Sen Glenn support and defense during impeachment.

An ally of President Clinton, he has been circumspect in his comments on the Monica Lewinsky scandal, decrying the "rush to judgment."

As for Hillary being smart - yeah she has the intelligence of a calculator. And all the creativity of one too.

Have the Clinton ever really solved a problem given the power and resources at their finger tips ,or have they only managed the problem ?

Haiti still a hell hole after the earthquake and Bill Clinton was appointed "special envoy"

Both my parents died from glioblastoma multiformes. It's a common type of tumor that grows quickly and usually kills in less year. I sincerely hope the Enquirer got this one wrong; I wouldn't wish a glio on my worst enemy.

I hope it's not true. Can you imagine? Bill - cut loose from any need for public propriety! It'll be all "Lock up yo daughter, lock up yo wife" everywhere he goes.

OK. I'll take one for the team. If Hillary kicks it, I'll fark Bill daily to keep him out of trouble. If that's what it takes, that's what it takes.

Hi, this is Bill.  You want to go get some Chinese carryout and come back to my place?

I wouldn't call that a departure given his part in the Keating Five.

The Downfall: BizarreMan: Based on the lastest news she jumped onto my Death Pool list for next year.

Mine = George HW Bush
Bob Dole
Nelson Mandela
Zsa Zsa Gabor
Hugo Chavez
Margaret Thatcher
Prince Philip
Billy Graham
Stan Lee
Stan Musial
Annette Funicello

Wow, yes, good list. I'd add a few more entertainers. I think this will be the year either Joan or Olivia wins the contest of outliving the other. I'm concerned about James Garner, who is my lifelong One True Love. Kirk Douglas, too. After Elizabeth Taylor died, I compiled a list of actors over 85; there were over a dozen and I think only three have died since then.

This might mean I'm weird.

Clive Davis
Eddie Van Halen
Fidel Castro
Henry Kissinger
Jimmy Carter
Hillary Clinton
Lindsey Lohan - Turns 27 this year.....
Zsa Zsa Gabor
Hugo Chavez
George HW Bush

Haiti has been a hell hole for the last 3 centuries - you can hardly blame that on the Clintons.
