It's still a fun reminder that WW2 wasn't that long ago...lest we forget and all that. Also it would be a pretty awesome find for a little kid especially when so many people with metal detectors (like me) don't find anything better than subway tokens.

metal detectors are "cool"?

I have one that my grandpa bought in the 80's for his retirement. It came complete with all the paperwork, theoretically a lifetime warranty (but they store he bought it is out of business) and some notes from a workshop my grandpa attended at a library that I assume was his motivation for buying it. It would be so like me him to think something was really interesting, spend a reasonable amount as an investment, and then only use it a few times.
Just ask my toolbox full of arduino stuff and my geocaching gps!

Anywho, I only ever see slightly off looking middle aged men using them in general public. To hear that even farkers find them cool for a kid to have is a little surprising, to be honest.

Then again, story did happen in Britain, yeah? Am I still cool if I'm a female under 30 with a metal detector? Let's hope so.

A training round. The go poof when they hit but unlike a real bomb they aren't blown to bits as the charge is tiny. It apparently had functioned properly and didn't have any bang left in it.

Actually, they do. It's to kick up a dust cloud so it's obvious where the bomb it. They are militarily useless but still pack enough of a punch to be dangerous to someone handling them.

I bought this same metal detector for my daughters earlier this year and it doesn't work that great. If you turn the sensitivity up all the way then it will just constantly go off, if you turn it down just slightly then it might find something. I buried some coins just under the ground and it would kind of pick them up but then there were also times where it wouldn't pick them up even on top of the ground

I'd suggest just going to Amazon and search for metal detectors, you will find some that have good ratings and are used in the $50 - $80 price range

As a hardcore metal detectorist, I'm getting a kick out of these replies.
