Well, they do sort of look alike.

But I digress... PAD is one of the best comic book writers of the past 25 years, and hopefully he will get through this with no major complications and get back to writing soon.

Anyone got the over/under on how long the Spider-Man changes will last? Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due out early May 2014, so no longer than that. Six months? Three?

And Dan Slott seems to be all bent out of shape when people note, quite correctly, that this is little more than a publicity stunt that will go away before the next movie. Sorry, Dan, them's the way the world works.

I've been a fan of Peter David's from a very young age, when I read his Photon tie-in novels in the fifth grade. Hope he gets well soon.

X-Factor is easily the most underrated book on the shelf. Peter David's been writing that book (plus the AMAZING Madrox standalone short) for...over 10 years, I really, REALLY hope he's ok.

He's definitely one of the modern comics masters. X-Factor has been the quiet part of the X-family that doesn't (usually) get mired in the event of the month crap that the rest of the titles do. Plus ten years on a title nowadays is remarkable.

When I gave away or sold off all my kid-lit and sci-fi that I'd read in junior high, much of it I knew I'd never read again, I came across my copy of Q-in-Law and put that motherfarker right back on my shelf. Hope he recovers fully, everything I've read of his to this point has been extremely enjoyable stuff.

I didn't know he still wrote X-Factor (haven't read comics in a LONG time). I still laugh when I remember how Guido took the codename "Strong Guy" because all superhero groups have a strong guy.

And yes, this does indeed suck. I wasn't exactly a fan of PAD's run on Supergirl, but he made the best of the turd sandwich that DC gave him with the whole Matrix situation.

Wish I could find a scan of the comics page from the first run of Young Justice, where the team has a campout while the adult heroes discuss the situation. While playing 'Truth or Dare', the team find out that Superboy isn't going to be growing any older; he's stuck at a physical age of 16. The girls all remark on how sad that his, but Kon just says 'Are you kidding? It's great! never having to grow up, never having to pay taxes', ect. ect.; he does the whole Peter Pan thing. Then, after the adults have had their conference and go to tell the kids of their decision, Superboy's the only one left awake. And one of the last panels after Nightwing leaves is Superboy sitting under a tree, musing 'To die would be the greatest adventure of all, I think'; one of Peter Pan's more (in)famous lines from the book.

That bit still gives me chills at how well it was all set up and written.

I completely gave up on Marvel's disastrous "storylines" back in the 90s. In fact, their idiotic comics from that era completely turned me off comics in general.

Everybody's always dead or a clone or a dead clone or from an alternate universe or.... yea.... fark that. I stopped being amazed at stupid turns of deus ex machina around age 10.

These comic book writers and artists have more tragic lives than their characters. PAD has a stroke, Jeph Loeb's son Sam died at 17 from bone cancer, then artist Michael Turner died a couple years later from the same type of cancer that Sam had. Will Eisner's daughter died of leukemia. Geoff Johns' little sister died in a plane crash. Meanwhile, Rob Liefeld still walks the Earth perfectly healthy. What a world.

One of my all-time favorite writers.........was pretty much raised on his run with The Incredible Hulk, and his revamp of She-Hulk was awesome too, as well as pretty much everything else he has been involved with. Sending positive vibes his way, hope he makes a complete recovery.

There are few writers as consistently strong as PAD. He'll put out the occasional fail, but a good 90-95 percent of his work ranges from good to outstanding. And it's been like that his entire career.

So definitely sending positive thoughts his way.

I swear, if PAD dies and Rob Liefild swoops in to "straighten out" Shatterstar, I will beat Rob until he looks like those chicks he draws with broken spines and dislocated hips.

The thing is, Busiek has been sick for years, which is (IIRC) why he left Avengers, and why Astro City has had such an erratic, almost non-existent schedule since DC bought Jim Lee.

I could care less about his comic stories, but I've always been a huge fan of his Star Trek novels. Especially his New Frontier series. Man wrote Trek better than 3/4ths of the people working on the actual shows.

I bought a LOT of Star Trek novels in the early 90's.. and it seemed like Peter David wrote about half of them. Busy guy.
