Notice they cut the scene before it either topples over or glitches out. Wouldn't want to release such dramatic anti CCTV propaganda.

I for one hate living in a surveilled society. I thought it was bad here but the UK takes it way to far.

Used to love living in England but i really have no plans to return

Emphasis mine. You want to think about that for a bit?

the thing about this video that struck me was how it's doing it's surveillance and looks automated, but the second something starts happening to the pole, the camera points down and zooms in. There's definitely someone watching these things and frankly, I'm not sure how much i would like it if one of those was pointed at my house.

What was dumbass #2 doing besides constantly moving to the best position to be showered with sparks?

Yup, had the same thing at a hotel I worked at. The camera would automatically scan the car park, but if a sensot was tripped, it would snap to that location, giving us an alert it's happened. Then we'd take over surveillance using a trackball.

As for the video, GMP = Greater manchester Police. Not in the least bit surprised. Looks like the pickeys have moved in locally and don't want anyone watching their nocturnal excursions

Also, I'm pretty sure the camera was there at the residents' request, it would appear the criminals are quite brazen about their hobbies

Found the actual location

53°30'20.71"N 2°19'56.59"W

Can't see what the problem is, looks like a highly desirable area

It started tracking the person who was walking up to the pole.

If you are going to pay a dude to monitor it, why not have him just walk around the neighborhood. Yeah he can't monitor as much area, but he is more likely to be able to stop a crime or catch a criminal rather than just take video of an unidentified guy in a hoodie.

He was pushing the pole to ensure it didn't land on the guy cutting, so far as I could tell.

Can't get guns then switch to large gas powered saws. I wonder if the ever caught the guy going around cutting boots off cars so the owners wouldn't have to pay. Soon they will need permits to shop for power tools.

I can understand why people don't like these, but this isn't the way to go about getting rid of them. Those things aren't free, you know. In fact, most suppliers/installers will make sure to squeeze every dime (pence, rubel, chicklet) out of any government-contract installs. And who pays for those government-contract jobs? You know what's worse than paying for a CCTV camera to spy on you?  Paying for TWO CCTV cameras to spy on you.

No, not really. When they say "antisocial behavior," they mean people dealing drugs, throwing beer bottles all over the street, getting into fights, etc. I bet the people that actually live there are a little sick of it.

The Orwellian language they use over there never ceases to amaze me. I really enjoy what they call "Hooligans"

If people would stop acting like stupid kunts, then there wouldn't be a need for surveillance cameras...would there?

---- It's action and reaction. The world gets the way it is because of the way people act.

I was really hoping to watch it teeter and drop, then see it fuzz out as it smashed against the ground. What a shame they cut the cord before they finished cutting the pole.

2012-12-31 02:50:30 PM
Who gives a fark? Watch me walking the dog, picking up my mail, whatever. I don't care and never have. Nothing to hide and nothing to report-I do get that people get pissed about this but that's society today. Probably cheaper than hiring extra cops to walk the street.

Sigh.

I'd really like to make an open source parrot drone + gps + arduino/raspberry pi project to drop plastic grocery bags or parachutes over speed cameras or surveillance devices. Or maybe just release a mist of oil.

Are you suggesting that cutting a video or power cable causes the image to fade to black? Anyway, the pole would probably topple over before they cut the wires. Are these wireless? I dunno. Maybe you could clarify your snark?

Laser. 500mW handheld would be easy, a few seconds at the camera and it's done for.

Just shooting the lens out with a pellet gun would have been easier.

A collapsible pole with a can of spray paint rigged for remote works well. But it's not nearly as cool as the saw.

I want a gps enabled drone mister with wireless camera, because uh, I am a chickenshiat and don't want to take a chance the camera or its buddy is looking my way. I want to be in an alley next to a block wall 300 yards away over. And I just want the camera operator to suddenly see an obscured camera with no hint of me.

Finally, when I am caught, I don't want to be charged with permanent damage to government property.

Also, I want to sell these plans or kits and/or opensource them so others can improve upon them.

Home drones to fight the man, that sort of thing.

Wow, people don't want their taxes to be used to keep them under constant surveillance? Who would have guessed? If someone is important enough to watch 24/7, you can assign law enforcement to do the job, watching everyone simply because it's becoming economically feasible is quite a bit beyond any reasonable governance.

Octocopter

Hmmm. I wonder how the cops would feel if you used a quadcopter with video camera to video surveill their surveillance cameras? Meta-snooping anybody?
