Jim_Callahan: lizyrd: Jim_Callahan: Way to protect and serve the constitution, idiots. It's not like there's an entire amendment in the bill of rights saying it's a fundamental human right to not have soldiers quartered on your property without your permission and recompense or anything.//Man, you don't get to make a third amendment reference very often."In time of peace""nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law."The law being that owners still have to be compensated and contracts honored, works the same as eminent domain seizures, basically.
Bomb Head Mohammed: Securitywyrm: Speaking as a former soldier, here's my two cents on the issue.Suddenly rolling out makes sense. You don't declare when you're rolling out. However, that there is 'rent owed' for what is basically now just another unremarkable patch of wasteland is laughable. This wasn't land in a city, this was probably a spot with nothing on it and nobody around. Sure, lots of folks will 'claim' that it is their land and they are owed rent, but property law over there consists of "I have a gun, therefor this is my property." "Well we have two guns, now it's our property."So, you sign a rent contract and then decide that you don't want to pay. Do I have that right, hero?No wonder we lost hearts, minds, and thus, the plot.
abhorrent1: Is this satire? Since when does an occupying army pay rent to a country they've invaded?
sprgrss: Given where it was located in Afghanistan, I'm going to put money on the US not paying rent because that rent money was going toward funding insurgent groups.
Kyosuke: sprgrss: Given where it was located in Afghanistan, I'm going to put money on the US not paying rent because that rent money was going toward funding insurgent groups. When has that stopped us before?
THE GREAT NAME: The guardian. Britain's number two taliban propaganda outlet. We can expect this to appear on BBC news soon, displacing stories about immigrant paedophile rings.
sprgrss: Kyosuke: sprgrss: Given where it was located in Afghanistan, I'm going to put money on the US not paying rent because that rent money was going toward funding insurgent groups. When has that stopped us before?Despite your attempts to equivocate it, the US isn't in the business of directly funding people who wage war against America.
sloshed_again: Vietnam can suck my D%ck. Afghanistan can wait till it's hard again.COUNTries at war get no sorrow from me.
Trapper439: I'm guessing that you think "they" hate America because of its FreedomTM.
fusillade762: In the morning, locals found guards gone, buildings blown up and, scattered around what had been a forbidding military encampment, piles of detritus from years of western living in a remote, mountainous valley.Might that have been a tip they were getting ready to leave? What did the locals think was going on, I wonder? And what's the logic in destroying the buildings? What did they think were going to be done with them?
Mazzic518: I want to live somewhere rent free for five years lol
spawn73: Mazzic518: I want to live somewhere rent free for five years lolAfghanistan?
hbk72777: How can you tell they left a mess?
illannoyin: SpaceBison: Yeah but the DFAC serves Baskin Robbins ice cream so that's a plus.[www.esquire.com image 614x382][newsimg.bbc.co.uk image 466x300][2.bp.blogspot.com image 320x240]We truly are the greatest nation on earth.
wildlifer: Burn, blow up, destry everything we built and then come home. Screw 'em.
monoski: wildlifer: Burn, blow up, destry everything we built and then come home. Screw 'em.Great idea, I am sure if we fark'em hard enough they will never welcome anti-American terrorist groups back to train and plot against us. Billions of dollars spent, thousands of lives lost and Wildlifer wants to burn any shabby bridge we have in place.
Securitywyrm: Or to put it another way. There's no way these people would wait five years to be paid any agreed upon 'rent.' The US Military doesn't have the financial capacity to owe money for that long: everything has to be zeroed out by the end of the fiscal year or heads roll. That means if they owe somoene money, they track you down and shove it into their hands rather than have money owed at the end of the fiscal period. And yes, I was in a finance unit.
fozziewazzi: In the Afghan dictionary you are gonna find gratitude after gimme and gotcha.
NewportBarGuy: Relatively Obscure: NewportBarGuy: on their behalfwatWell, partially. The objective is to build a sustainable, secure state so they won't be a haven for terrorist groups.
NewportBarGuy: The tenant pointed to a list of people who sacrificed all on their behalf and walked away without saying a word.
NewportBarGuy: Relatively Obscure: NewportBarGuy: on their behalfwatWell, partially. The objective is to build a sustainable, secure state so they won't be a haven for terrorist groups. Have we or will we achieve that goal? Probably not. But, the effort was made.
TV's Vinnie: Can we still go to Plan B: glass parking lot?
sprgrss: Despite your attempts to equivocate it, the US isn't in the business of directly funding people who wage war against America.
