I love that they're actually making new blooper reels for each season of these blu-ray sets. They're really going all out on extras so far. I love that the Reading Rainbow segment was included, too.

Well, there's that and the fact that every time the actors screw up or start dicking around, that's wasted money.

Film stock ain't cheap.

Which is why we ended up with Shades of Grey to save money. Worst Trek 'episode' by far.

Sub Rosa was terrible, but at least it was an entire episode. Shades of Grey was a clip show. I think some of Riker's 'memories' were even of scenes he wasn't even in.

TNG had some terrible episodes (Space Africans, Space Irish, and Space Scottish Ghost), but at least those episodes attempted an original story.

Nope. Gotta side with KotWC on this one. Space Irish of the Comedic Drunkenness was WAY more stupid than Space Ghost of the Bad Romance Novel.

No way, that episode was justified by the guest star:

That was more due to the WGA strike that I anything else.

Dorn sure cracked up a lot.  Probably had something to do with being that serious all the time.  When he started beating on the console and Frakes about ran away was pretty good too.

The strike led to the Phase II scripts getting used. Most of the behind the scenes discussions point to the suits trying to cut costs as the cause for Shades of Grey. It was probably a combination of both, though.

Patrick Stewart is a hilariously absurd human being, all sources that I've ever seen seem to say. It only makes it funnier when you've only seen him be regale and Shakespeareian as in TNG or in all the, y'know, Shakespeare he seems to do. He's done some comical work too, and he's damn good at it.

A couple interviews I've seen with Stewart have him talking about how he was a bit of a stiff when he started on TNG. He mostly just frowned on shenanigans on set. He quickly learned to lighten up and have some fun while working.

Then again, there was the "We're Ripping the Universe and Need a Speed Limit" episode... And the Episode of Genderless Aliens... And any time in Season One when Picard started pontificating...
