Bit'O'Gristle: Don't invite fire by using civilians homes, then get butt hurt when civilians are killed. You are the ones calling the fire in.
A Terrible Human: Bit'O'Gristle: Don't invite fire by using civilians homes, then get butt hurt when civilians are killed. You are the ones calling the fire in.Yes because I soooooo totally trust the Syrian government.
Mrbogey: Beirut was the Paris of the Middle East 50 years ago. What will Paris look like in 50 years?
R3: Been following this for the last couple of months, and one question keeps popping up: were there any warning signs? Like, did WH ever get a memo couple of years ago from CIA saying: "Keep an eye on that Assad dude, if he ever loses his grip on power he will start murdering his own people with everything he got..."Somehow I can't believe this just kind of slipped through the cracks.
Gyrfalcon: Syria is one of the oldest nations on earth, and has the oldest continually inhabited city (Damascus) in the world.I have a theory. The Middle East is the so-called "Cradle of Civilization" because it's where, well, civilization was invented. Humans have lived in fixed dwellings there for the longest time, and not surprisingly, it's got the most degraded environment in the world as well. Civilization started there about 10,000 years ago. Should we be at all surprised that it's the Middle East where civilization seems to be falling totally and irrevocably apart right now? We're just watching the end of the world. Only it's not going to be fast and all-encompassing, it's just going to be a series of slow-motion mini-apocalypses as one culture after another self-immolates. Starting right there in the Fertile Crescent: Israel, Syria, Iraq, Iran....down they go. Maybe that's about how long things take to run their course.
