Warning: Obnoxious auto-play video in link.  I couldn't turn it off, either.

Didn't he only get those jobs early in his career because his mommy was a casting agent ?

I thought Slater's career had hit rock bottom after the cinematic turd that was Alone In The Dark. Looks like I was wrong.

"Kuffs" had its moments and it's a certainly a masterpiece compared to the rest of his filmography. Interview With A Vampire seems to be the best of the bunch(probably because of minimal screen time).

Ahem,  HEATHERS.

Eh, it gets bonus points for Milla. I will admit I have a soft spot for Pump Up the Volume and Gleaming the Cube.

C'mon people, obviously Tremors was his best film.

Oh wow, I remember I went with a bunch of my girlfriends to that movie opening night and the cinema was PACKED with young girls like us, screaming whenever Slater appeared on screen. So embarrassing.

I still have a soft spot for Broken Arrow because of that underground nuclear detonation scene.

Also Heathers.  He was perfect in that.

2012-12-30 04:02:56 PM
He was great on My Name Is Earl.

2012-12-30 04:26:23 PM
I read the article. This movie was shown on ONE screen. Why bother? Should've gone straight to DVD.

2012-12-30 04:58:34 PM
You can only impersonate Jack Nicholson so long before it gets old.

IMHO, Heathers was his best flick.

2012-12-30 05:00:56 PM
"Sad" tag would be more appropriate.

How easily people forget:

I watched Robin Hood Prince of Thieves again last year. I hadn't seen it since I loved it when I was a kid.

Holy crap is that movie awful.

2012-12-30 05:06:43 PM
Heathers and Pump Up The Volume were genuinely good teen movies.

I'll bet that alone in the dark was worse than playback.

I still enjoyed Pump Up The Volume, and not just for Samantha Mathis...

I watched this on Chiller (or Syfy??) late one night. It wasn't the worst thing I've watched on that channel, though I wasn't paying attention the whole time. Christian Slater was one of my first crushes. I miss you Christian.

I think that has to do with some weird SAG rule that states a movie has to be released domestically before it can qualify for international distribution. It's the same reason Zyzzyx Road only made $30

Gotta say this:

The boy was certainly connected 'cause his family ties. He started out making good movies and it has been going down as the years go by. I remember I was going out with this chick and she loved him back in the Nineteen Hundred and Eighties. Sucks to be him now!

Yet directors seem to want "youthful sarcasm". In "How to Train Your Dragon" I kept wondering why the director wanted the Hiccup character to channel Christian Slater doing his Nicholson impression. And "Rise of the Guardians" seemed to do sorta the same.

I guess "youthful sarcasm" is every director's go-to characterization when the director is drawing a blank. "Um. Can you make it more 'edgy'? More. Even more. More. OK, every syllable is dripping with ennui and disdain. Now multiply that by 10."

He was also in The Wizard.

I really don't have anything else to add, except The Wizard is a guilty pleasure.

Somehow I doubt that.

I would like to know more about this, if its true.

Otherwise... yeah, no wonder the movie made such crap money. It doubtless had zero promotion on top of the single screen opening. No promotion + no opportunity to see it = no money made.

Honestly with that kind of treatment you'd expect it to be a Mike Judge film distributed by Fox.

Meh, some of his movies were pretty good (and one was great):

I really liked it, so I was not surprised when it was cancelled.

By far his best movie!

I like Broken Arrow too, but then I'm a sucker for nuke movies. And who doesn't like Heathers?

I like the movie, but buying him as a US Representative in  The Contenderwas a hard sell.

The preview for this movie doesn't look that horrible, was it just a cheap rip off of The Ring?

That part was actually River Phoenix's but he croaked in front of the Viper Room so Slater took the role and gave his salary to charity. So that was cool.

Came for this. Already covered.

In addition, Very Bad Things, Pump Up The Volume, Gleaming the Cube (don't judge me) and Hard Rain.

Err, I enjoyed Very Bad Things but maybe that was because Kobe Tai played the hooker.

Although I certainly appreciated the view, even as a 17 yo boy I kinda wondered what the director was thinking with that 360-degree camera spin during her topless scene.

i just met him at a networking event in miami beach. really really nice guy. was with one of the hot hot young art museum employees.

Just GIS's her. She has perky little puppies. Didn't Slater also star with her in some movie were he and Travolta slap each other in the desert?

I can only imagine what happened in there during the scene when Slater puts the black sheets on his bed, with his perfect hair dangling at a jaunty angle.

While I'm no fanboy of Christian Slater, considering the fact I have never heard of or ever seen a trailer for this movie leads me to think that blame for an abysmal box office is on more than just Slater.
