Dimensio: The Republican party cannot be blamed for not planning for the current "fiscal cliff" situation. They did, in fact, have a sound strategy for handling it: have Mr. Mitt Romney elected President and have their party regain control of the Senate...

Based on Romney's unwillingness to articulate a single spending cuts he would propose (except for cutting Big Bird) and Congressional Republican's inability to pass their own Plan B, I'm not even sure if they could have worked this out even if they had won.

I've got to admit that I've had a pretty good time over the last several months watching the GOP try to frame this debate on Old Media terms. Putting those dated tactics up against the tools of the information age and a Democratic contingent that isn't (entirely) spineless has worked pretty well to leave the GOP, metaphorically speaking, with their pants around their ankles in an airport bathroom. There is no escape. You can't untap the foot. There is no blow job. Obama, and in this case the general populace of America, wins again.

Maybe the GOP will wise up and stop defining themselves as the party of regressive ideals. Heh.

2012-12-30 06:11:02 PM
I don't care if we go over the fiscal cliff. All us Democrat libtards will still be getting our welfare. Democrats don't pay taxes and don't work. Derp.

It's been just like any fight from DBZ: long, drawn out, lots of talking, took much charging for attacks, and barely winning at the very last second.

RoxtarRyan: As a taxpayer, I have to ask, why are these assholes getting paid? They continuously fail to make a budget. If I had a job responsibility that included "making sure out finances are in order and ensuring we can pay the bills", and I fail to do so repeatedly, I'd be fired.

Some of these people HAVE been fired. They just haven't been escorted out of the building yet.

Frankly, I would be willing to pay more taxes if that's what it takes for the rich to pay their share.

Tonight's ticket has Mitch "the Turtle" McConnell trying to put a hard shell of protection up against the man that knows how to hold'em, Harry "the Gambler" Reid!

Two old wheezers in $3000 suits having a run at each other, that would be a hoot.

Uh oh, the old guy is sneering. But the even-older guy responds with a scornful glare. OMG, a wave of the hand, as if in dismissal of an underling. The liver spots glisten in the klieg lights. This is too brutal, I can't watch any more.

I think THIS is actually the deal. Under the table deal for Turtleboy to hold for the CPI . . . which blows talks . . . which then leads to the up-or-down vote . . . which doesn't require TeaTards to actually vote for, to pass . . . which keeps Dems from having to vote FOR SS cuts. Keeps both parties from having to vote against party-central principles that their bases would massacre them for. It's a straight-up, underhanded, smoky back-room, political bargain.

"Gov" is a little less clear, it's usually not in all-caps, plus most of the time it means "Governor" ...

Curious: Notabunny: nmrsnr: Obama has as much as said that if we pass Jan. 1 without a compromise he's going to ask Reid to enter a no-frills, straight up tax cut on everyone making less than $250k and dare the GOP to filibuster a tax cut for 98% or Americans.

The Republicans attached a new "chained" formula for calculating the COLA for Social Security, which Democrats are calling a "poison pill" and a non-starter. So there's a good chance Obama's plan is the one we'll get.

the chained formula sucks. why the fark do SS recipients, who get screwed on COLA as it is, have to get double screwed? damn Obama hasn't even got his second inauguration and he's pissing me off again.

Republicans have (as expected) caved on their Social Security demands. Until 11:30 tomorrow, enjoy some Phish.

This story has actually been helpful to me. Anytime I see someone saying "both sides are to blame here", that tells me I'm not dealing with an intelligent or reasonable person, and I have no need to listen to them about anything else of consequence.

It's really helped me thin down my "trusted advisers" list.

according to the latest article on Politico, there are two GOPers who are willing to help break a Senate filibuster on Obama's last ditch plan: Snowe and Lugar. If the last ditch plan is $400k and up, Heller and others are willing.

That's how the market works - it goes up for a while, then it goes down for a while. When it's been moving upward for an extended period, it's especially likely to head south for a while. I'm sorry you didn't understand that before you invested. Personally, I'm looking forward to scooping up some bargains in the next few months.

What makes you think you're going to lose it now? Additionally, what makes you think the market won't come back AGAIN?

What is wrong with people always concerned with what's happening TODAY and not long-term?

I don't want to see that happen. $250k and up. Need to stay with that as the final/only offer on the table.

The Old Man and the Turtle?
I am thought to be "salao", the worst form of unlucky. It's been 84 days without a deal. I may not be as strong as I think, but I know many tricks and I have resolution. Let him think that I am more man than I am and I will be so. Most people were heartless about turtles because a turtle's heart will beat for hours after it has been cut up and butchered. But I have such a heart too. Turtle, I love you and respect you very much. But I will kill you dead before this day ends.

Eh. The cost of everything is going up, taxes are being raised at every level, and those cost-of-living increases (if you're lucky) won't even cover what will likely be a federal tax increase for pretty much anyone who makes a decent pay check. Guess I should be happy that I have two part-time jobs in addition to my full-time job.

This is what happens when you have super-rich lawyers pretending to care about what the country needs. Enjoy your pay raises.
