Yeah, I don't see that happening

Awesome, I love AP. At least he isn't doing stupid shiat on the off season. It would give me a reason to watch the olympics.

I'll be impressed if Bolt makes it back again.

So AP is going to quit football, drop 20#, and spend every waking moment re-training for the next 3 years so that he has a maaaybe 1/1000 chance of being a 31yo alternate on a relay team? At a cost of $50-100million lost? Yeah right.

How much track did he run in high school? IIRC, CJ Spiller was an All-American in track & field while in college at Clemson.

Yeah, but the difference is both guys have a lot more muscle mass now, which really slows a guy down compared to a guy like Bolt.

so you're saying there's a chance?

machoprogrammer: the difference is both guys have a lot more muscle mass now, which really slows a guy down compared to a guy like Bolt.

Well it's the WRONG muscle mass.  Among other things, football players train extensively to build up lateral motion, balance and upper-body strength.  All are practically liabilities when your only game is straight-ahead speed (WR scouts take note).  In a sprint against Bolt, AP might as well be running with a fully loaded suitcase strapped to his back.  In the other direction, I wouldn't be shocked if some NFL linemen could juke Bolt if he tried to stay in front of them.

picodenico: I'll be impressed if Bolt makes it back again.

He would turn 30 the August of the games. No reason he shouldn't still be incredible. He might no longer be the prohibitive favorite against Blake or whatever new young phenom, but no reason to think he wouldn't be one of the top 3 or 4 sprinters in the world still.

I always hear people talk about how AP tries to crush your hand when he shakes it. That annoys me. I hate dead fish handshakes too, but c'mon, there's a happy medium.

Bolt would smoke him.

Aside from the dozens and dozens people who are faster than him now and will be focusing on staying faster

It's just talk. He's on top of the world right now and feeling it. When someone explains he'll have to quit football RIGHT NOW, before today's game against the Packers ends, and begin training with that remote chance of making the team, he might have second thoughts.

2012-12-30 08:15:04 PM
AP won't win because he can't lower his head and ram his helmet into everyone else.

/If defensive players can't do it to offensive players, it shouldn't be allowed in reverse
//tired of AP injuring people with that shiat

People are idiots. Never underestimate what a professional athlete will do physically if they get the itch to do it. AP wants to run vs. Usain Bolt? Not beat him, mind you; just be in the competition. How many times has a trained athlete made the laughing public look like fools with their future desires? Even if this guy doesn't get there, he'll help himself in his current profession. He said he would get 2,500 yards this year after his surgery, then came 9 yards from breaking the all-time record in NFL history. Now, would anyone say to his face, "Yeah, right!! 2500 yards..what a clown.." No, because it's about setting goals, dummies, even far-fetched ones...

I recall CJ2K claming he could beat Bolt head to head after his 2K season. Everyone around you telling that you're the greatest ever will do wonders for your confidence.

Curt Blizzah: No, because it's about setting goals, dummies, even far-fetched ones...

Yeah, but at the same time, a claim of "I'll do 2500 yds" is basically a bet against himself. Saying he'd like to sprint in the Olympics is somewhat disrespectful to those who have trained their whole lives to have that same shot. As others have mentioned, he clearly has elite physical abilities, but not the right ones for Olympic level sprinting.

/he just wants in on the Olympic orgy
//can you blame him?
///my price is something along the lines of all the toes on my left foot and one of my testicles
////well, maybe both nuts, since I'd never need them again

Yeah, but I am pretty sure he isn't willing to walk away from the NFL for 3 years to train for the 1 in 1000 chance he would make it. His NFL career would be over, since he would have to drop a decent amount of muscle mass

Nobody feels worse about how this season went than Andy Reid. He's gotta do a better job. Make that he's gotta find a better job.

yup Jesse Lumsden who had a promising but ultimately short career in the CFL as a running back because of injuries has transitioned quite well into bobsleigh.  Assuming that AP would want to try I see no reason he couldn't do the same.

I misread; I thought they were saying AP wouldn't be the favorite, but top 4 potential.

My respect for purple Jesus went way up in his interview right after the game where he wasn't mad or anything he didn't get the record. He didn't even know if he broke it or not when asked the question and had the reporter tell him.

Oh well, we won, that's all I wanted to do today.

AP would beat Bolt to the 50 meter mark but once Bolt got that long stride flowing it's no contest he'd blow by him (AP) for the (easy) win.

Speaking of "professional athletes", aren't there still amateurism requirements for most Olympic sports? I understand they removed it for basketball but I thought that was the exception and not the rule.

I think the only as sports with amateurism requirements in the Olympics are boxing and wrestling. And I think 1992 was when most sports dropped the requirement.
