Umm... Yes. Yes, you are.

Where did all the normal people on this planet go? I liked them. They were fun to watch.

God certainly tells a lot of people "Ask everyone for money. Tell them it's for Me, but be cool."

If you really think that little voice in the back of your head is God and not your own brain telling you what you already know then I'm sorry, but you really are crazy.

Sure, and then they turn around and refuse to publish my letter about the invisible anti-people that live inside my pantry.
There is no justice in this world.

Btw, spread the word to anyone you care about. I'm not sure what they are up to (you can't farking see them), but I don't think these anti-people are messing around.

I find audio halucinations are easy to induce. If you relax and visualize a song (audiaulize?) you can usually hear it.

You can do the same with voices, probably.

If we assume that people are truly experiencing what they believe to be religious experiences, then we can assume that for those people, the religious experience proves that God exists. So long as they aren't stabbing people on the bus, what's the harm in letting people believe in what they want to believe in?

At least 1 in 10 people will say they've had such an experience if you ask them bluntly.

There's a subtle way of asking someone if he or she is possibly delusional?

1 in 100? That makes it about as common as people who hear god talking to them.

I've never heard of anyone who says the FSM told them to hurt other people or even ask them for money. I'd listen to the FSM if I were you, especially where marinara is concerned.

What if God tells them to stab people on the bus? Assuming that the bible is correct God can instruct people to do such things.

Well, here is something to think about. Our brain uses memory to interpret current experiences (based upon what the current stimulation). For example: You here a dog bark within normal hearing range, you may hear "roof, roof" . If that sound is distorted by distance, obstacles, or other sounds, your brain may interpret that sound based upon any given memory (usually the most stimulating memories). Mostly, it may sound like someone calling your name. It could also sound like the devil telling you to shoot random people in your city...Depending upon your current mental condition, of course.

Why is it that people usually hear god telling them things that they already believe or want to believe? "What's that, god? You think gay people are gross and that I should be rich? We have so much in common! We should be friends." They rarely hear god telling them to sell everything they own and give the money to charity.

I'd say if 4 out of 10 people have experienced sleep paralysis, that's not unusual. Freaky (I've experienced it twice, and my sister has experienced it at least once; neither of use really appreciated the experience), but not unusual in terms of frequency. However, relative to the usual course of a day, it is unusual to experience it. It doesn't happen frequently, for anybody (near as I know), so in that sense, it is unusual. And I'm willing to bet that if you ask laypeople, most of them will not have heard of sleep paralysis or understood what it is and would consider it quite unusual if they have experienced it. And I'm willing to bet one of those is the definition of "unusual" being used here: unusual in the course of a given day or unusual to the layperson.

Of course, I'd say 4 out of 10 having experienced it at least once may be a bit high. I'd like to think lucid dreaming may also be considered an unusually occurring perceptual experience for most people as well, and that may also contribute some to that 4 out of 10 people estimate.

Came in here to say that. Did you get that from me? I usually bring it up in God-told-me threads. Also "God-A Biography" by Jack Miles. God didn't speak to any human after Job, and seems to have washed his hands of the human race, if the Bible is to believed.

An explorer is walking down a path in the jungle when he suddenly finds himself surrounded by a tribe of cannibals. "That's it," he says out loud. "I'm screwed."

Suddenly the heavens part and a Divine Voice says, "You are NOT screwed!" Pick up a big rock and kill the king of the cannibals."

So the explorer picks up a big rock and kills the king of the cannibals. And he hears the Voice say, "...NOW you're screwed."
