(Deadspin) Video Since there's no NHL hockey on the horizon, enjoy this throwback to old-time hockey as a bench-clearing brawl took place last Friday (technically, one bench emptied onto the other, but still...)   (deadspin.com) divider line 43

I like how #3 in white pounds the crap out of #26 in black until the goalie pulls him off, th en they both get up and compare injuries And stand and discuss postgame dinner plans.

The most surprising thing about this incident is that I hadn't heard about until now. If this happened in one of the Canadian Junior Leagues this would be national news here. Seriously. As it is, now that this is starting to get spread around, I'm sure it'll be the subject of a bunch of talk radio shows. Bench clearing brawls of any sort in the Junior Leagues and up almost always make a mention in the news, but without NHL the sports broadcasters here are desperate for things to talk about.

Very nice. Matt Cooke vs Evander Kane is brief and to the point. And maybe the lesson there is you don't get into a fight with someone named after a boxer.

I miss hockey.

Here i sit, watching football (it's truly sad) and a player "pushed" the quarter back and was given a foul. Why not just go ahead and and go with two hand touch on the quarterback and be done with it.

'97 was a good year for goalie fights. One of my personal all-time favorites, from that season's postseason:

Steve Shields vs. Garth Snow, May 3rd, 1997

I miss the 90's hockey. Yeah there was clutching and grabbing but it just seemed like it was the perfect balance of everything hockey has to offer with high skill level, great hits, awesome fights, tension, passion and amazing rivalries.

At the time i was a leafs fan and i remember staying up in the 90's one year to watch a philly pitts game go to the 5th overtime. I mean hell how many hockey games can you say that about in the 2000's ... lets get the shootout and end this lame game.. missing the ENTIRETY of the drama. Now i do remember that it was a playoff game and that there was ties instead of endless overtimes. but the point is that the game just felt like it was at its purest peek in the 90's.

After it was over hockey slowly turned into something i cant even bring myself to watch anymore. the disrespect the players have with no honor and no backbone is unreal.

The game was actually in the 1999 season. But there was so much more. Ray Bourque finally winning, Colorado becoming a powerhouse after Roy told the Habs to fark off. Mario making the comeback and seeming like a magician that never lost his touch. Goalies that would go on amazing hot streaks and then never be heard from again.

I remember every single one of these goals growing up.

I dont care what anyone says Mario was the best ever.Link

Ok and the final memory lane for the evening for me..

in 1991 right before the playoffs lemieux got slashed breaking his hand. Normally it would take 6 weeks for a player to return from that but it was less than a week until the playoffs would start. So without any discussion he put a plastic splint on his hand and played anyways. They won the cup, he scored 44 playoff points in 23 games with a broken hand.

I saw that as well, and watched the whole thing.

Still sucks that I lost my recording of the replay in the Detroit area a night after it happened. Had fun graphics for the massacre in hockey town and added commentary from Mickey Redmond.
