No way, you can buy rare earth magnets anywhere. Hell, I'm surprised the government hasn't gone after the "death magnets" yet.

I thought Zune went away five years ago.

RIP THQ.

The Zune music player features got rolled into Windows Phone and the music service just renamed Xbox Music. Saying Zune is dead is only slightly less accurate than saying that Datsun no longer makes cars.

Slightly MORE accurate, I mean

You can buy nissans. You can't buy a product that is the Zune with a different name.

taxandspend: Note to self: Grab every recalled Buckyball at the warehouse and open shop on Craigslist.

Guy at work got them from his "secret santa" (dear god why do we get forced into these things)

So, you can probably just order a crap load from the UK.

I love my Zune. It can handle music, movies, pictures, podcasts, apps, playlists, has awesome in-player and computer software, and can do email and basic browsing on wifi. I hope they maintain the software and marketplace for years to come.

Buckyballs only ended on Dec 27.

The CPSC is working hard to shut down Zen Magnets, Magnicubes, and Neoballs. Placing these items under a controlled ECCN will be the next step in enforcement after US manufacturers are ended.

It's quite the molehill made into a mountain. The number of fatalities is around 10 ever.

Yeah, Its got a plain blocky look and no one made cool docks and cases for it. Otherwise I'm sure it would have went over better.

Sony also manufactured the last Sony Walkman cassette player this year too.

"There was no more mysterious company death in 2012 than Pano Logic, the Redwood City, CA maker of "zero client" virtualized desktop hardware. The company's end in October came so quickly that it didn't even have time to issue a press release or change its home page."

I'm gonna go with "Board of Directors thought they were still living in the 90's and blew all the companies money on hookers and blow".

I really liked the zune setup. It does what it's supposed to, works great on my windows phone 7.5, and best of all doesn't seem to piss off my lap top as much as itunes does. Just hope the xbox music works just as well.

As for the zune players, never even seen one. Don't know anyone who has.

Happy customer. I forgot to mention that the sound quality is pretty awesome next to some other MP3 players I've used, too, and the screen has good color quality and zoom capabilities, which is good for when I want to show examples of my photography portfolio.

I have a Zune HD model, which was the latest before it went out of production and has a pretty slim design. But yeah, the lack of docks and other like accessories is probably a big part of what killed it.

Got a refurb Zune HD 32GB last year for a decent price. Quite happy with it. I like the Metro interface on it enough to consider a Windows phone when they get their shiat sorted out. Not in any hurry to migrate to Win8's Metro interface, though.

The Zune should have been included in the 2011 list. Renaming software is considered enough to be on a "killed off" list.

I still use my Zune120 I bought 4-5 years ago although the battery has seen better days.

I replaced the HD in my Zune 120 a couple of times before I just gave up on it. The case was pretty beaten up after having been apart a few times, and I was frankly just tired of all the extra maintenance the thing was starting to require due to its long, hard life. Now I stream some Pandora on my phone and have a few gigs worth of backup tunes on there. I really miss the Zune 120 + ZunePass on those long, solitary two-wheeled trips.

No, I completely agree. I owned four iPods and finally gave up on that shiat. Zunes are great.
