I have a really hard time believing that the grandfather of nonviolent protest was pro-gun.

I know nothing about this NaturalNews website, but the fact that they seem to be cool with Infowars is rather telling.

I had similar thoughts.  Upon seeing InfoWars, I knew I could stop reading as the rest was probably hyperbole bullshiat (at best).

Wow... This lie has been sub'd here from InfoWars, some other lunatic outlets, and now... The anti-vax morons?

That's called earning your green. Poor Subby had to really trudge through the dense mire of the collective paranoia of people for whom reality is so damn boring they need to hump the voices in their heads for excitement.

I wonder what other stuff that person had on their account besides a picture of Gandhi and a gun quote, because it sure as hell wasn't that image that got them suspended.

2012-12-29 01:28:17 PM
At that time, the people of India faced a menace even Greater than British rule: Legions of pigs.  Fortunately, after Gandhi convinced teachers to carry AR-15s at all times, the porcine horde was conquered and they could then turn their attention to the British.

The rest is history.

This being NaturalNews, I'm forced to assume that they weren't banned, said nothing about guns, and likely never existed in the first place. I'm beginning to doubt the existence of Gandhi and Facebook, as well.

By the way: Here is the link to the relevant part of the autobiography. As you can clearly see, that quote is in the context that he was trying to recruit Indians for armed combatants and to serve in the Army on Britain's behalf for WWI (i.e. to provide defense, not for self defense, but for defense of India, at this point). The British Commissioners and Viceroy, however, were refusing to allow Indians to be armed and enlist in the military for their own defense, however, opting to keep India as a subject state rather than a partner of the Commonwealth.

He wasn't advocating for private ownership of arms. He was advocating allowing Indians to use arms WHILE SERVING IN MILITARY SERVICE.

Here's another relevant quote from Gandhi's 1918 leaflet "Appeal for Enlistment" (See Page 83 of linked PDF).

You are all lovers of swaraj; some of you are members of the
Home Rule League. One meaning of Home Rule is that we should
become partners in the Empire. Today we are a subject people. We do
not enjoy all the rights of Englishmen. We are not today partners in
the Empire as are Canada, South Africa and Australia. We are a
dependency. We want the rights of Englishmen, and we aspire to be as
much partners in the Empire as the Dominions overseas.
We look
forward to a time when we may aspire to the Viceregal office. To
bring about such a state of things we should have the ability to defend
ourselves, that is, the ability to bear arms and to use them. As long as
we have to look to Englishmen for our defence, as long as we are not
free from the fear of the military, so long we cannot be regarded as
equal partners with Englishmen. It behoves us, therefore, to learn the
use of arms and to acquire the ability to defend ourselves. If we want
to learn the use of arms with the greatest possible despatch, it is our
duty to enlist ourselves in the army.

2012-12-29 01:31:56 PM
Anyone have the context of his quote? When ever I try my google fu, I get all the right wing web sites using it as gospel.

So, Gandhi was advocating membership in a well-regulated militia?

That sounds like a good idea.

2012-12-29 01:39:34 PM
To summarize for all those who are tl;dr:

Gandhi saw that a necessary step for Indian independence is that India must have its own Army in order to be on a more equal footing within the Empire, as other Commonwealth States like Canada, South Africa and Australia do. He is advocating for the creation of an Indian Army with the Viceroy that would allow for India to defend itself rather than relying on the occupation of British military.

Hmm... a part of me wonders if FB thought perhaps they were making a racial slur. Assuming there is any truth to what these asshats have claimed in the first place. Having the connection to infowars doesn't exactly add to the credibility of their story. Generally speaking, if it's on infowars, it's bullshiat.

Uh, no. He was advocating formal enlistment in a military.

Unless we get a statement from Facebook itself, there is absolutely no reason to believe that the ban was related to the gun quote at all. Considering the source, they were probably posting all sorts of crap that actually was a violation of the ToS.

Facebook only pulls it if it violates the TOS regardless of what the complaint is.

So my guess is that there is more to this story and this is just a lame excuse the paranoid nuts at this website came up with.

From your link:
Adams calls himself a holistic nutritionist and is a raw food proponent who opposes food that contains sugar, food that was cooked or made to last, "red" meat, sweeteners, glutamate, homogenized milk, bread and "white" flour, washing powder of some brands, deodorants, shampoos and fluoride toothpaste.
