Your dog is sad because it's laying around not getting any exercise.

I hate it when my cat laughs me. Really makes me angry.

My cat is missing her sunbeams during the day lately. She's been moody.

Precisely. My dog is borderline manic, romping in the snow that's falling right now. Along with the two 1-hour walks he gets every day regardless of the elements, he remains content.

My cat (RIP) used to sit on the second step from the top of the stairs in the dark.
Stepped on him and fell down the stairs once.
The dog sidled up to me and licked my face and stayed close.
Cat was nowhere to be found.

I knew my wittle doggie-woggie wasn't his usual puppy-uppy sugar booger self. I must buy this.

You're giving your dog 2 hours of daylight in the winter months. That's more than a lot of humans get. By this hypothesis, the daylight is doing as much good as the exercise.

Of course, in humans, more exercise is a suggested treatment for SAD. So, either way, *if* sunlight affects dogs the way it affects humans, then SAD may be just as much a condition with dogs as it is with humans, and then the light treatment may be just as effective as it is in humans, just like it may be with your dog. Of course, not all humans are affected by SAD, so not all dogs would be either.

Either way, your anectode doesn't really contradict the premise.

As far as dogs go, I have no idea. But with humans, I truly believe I have been affected by this for at least a few years and it has no correlation to life events.
