I think there's something to be said for alcohol addiction being a very real thing. So to slightly moderate your suggestion, I think a first offense should be a mandatory year of taking Anabuse (that's the medication that makes you violently ill if you consume any amount of alcohol).

If you can't break the addiction after that... well then you're an asshole. To the gallows with you.

You know, I don't have any idea what part of the country you live in, where your parents were born, and I don't give a shiat. But, listen: In many parts of the country, people with funny names were actually born here.
And their parents.
And grandparents.
In fact, the San Luis Valley in Southern Colorado was settled by people with funny names before it was even part of the US. So was St. Augustine, Florida, and nearly all of California. This means that - wait for it! - some people with funny names have been here longer than your family's fat asses have.

And I don't think it's your chest that's shiny metal. It's your hat.

Don't know why but reminds me of a guy I used to know. Shows up at the courthouse for a child support motion by his evil ex. Police everywhere, one of the prisoners escaped and the court house is locked down as the cops search it top to bottom. Gets told to go home. A week later he's arrested on bench warrant for missing his court date. Takes him and his lawyer six months to straighten it out. Meanwhile the ex's lawyer is using the arrest in a motion to strip him of custody. He said what amusing not is his ex didn't get a warrant for missing her court date.

Not only does alcohol kill more then 26 people per day, it usually kills someone entirely sober who had nothing to do with the drinking involved.

Drinking alcohol is tantamount to committing murder. The research data bears this out. You get drunk, you get ahold of a murder machine, and then you go kill some person with your murder machine. Then you get a slap on the wrist and get sent home. If you want to commit murder, just claim you were drunk driving.

I'm gonna have to call shenanigans. I'm fairly plastered now, but I don't even own a car. I just throw back several when I get home... unless you were trolling... but drunk driving is a selfish, foolish thing to do, regardless of your views on alcohol consumption.

You mean field sobriety tests actually might detect impairment? OMG? B-b-b-but what about the people who just smoked a joint and drove. The breathalyzer won't catch them and they'll probably do okay on the FSTs.

Here's what I don't get - this accident. I've driven drunk before. I've never even come close to doing anything like what was described in TFA.

I really don't understand the concept of driving like a complete oblivious maniac after a few drinks. Maybe people like that shouldn't be allowed to drive even when they're sober.

Drunk driving injuries and fatalities are just the price we pay for FREEDOM and you're a booze grabbing fascist if you suggest any sort of regulation or restriction.

Or

In order to reduce drunk driving casualties we need everyone to be drunk while they drive. Everyone knows you're far less likely to be injured in an accident when drunk because you're more relaxed.
