Wrong subby. Infographic says: 18% have unusually large head; 72% have normal-sized hear; 6% have small-ish head.

That's 96% accounted for, leaving 4% either having no head or not giving head.

Yep, it's a total misrepresentation.

Macs are for people who have more money than sense, and love to spend hours hammering glossy, shimmeringly-gorgeous square pegs through round holes.

Apple doesn't make a "Mac Pro laptop". Mac Pro is a desktop machine. www.apple.com for more details!

You're running 5 VMs on a dual-core mobile i5? I presume they're all sitting idle--and that you don't plan to do any gaming or graphics work with that integrated Intel mobile graphics.

You can build or buy an i7 desktop for the $900 that i5 Mini cost you--and you can direct-attach your 8.5TB to the internal SATA instead of having to buy a matching external enclosure for the Mini.

Shakin_Haitian:

They use the same hardware as everyone else.

True, but they don't put it together the same way. I can't speak much for the other Apple computers, and hey, my iPod is great, even after all these years, but for me, the iMac was a terrible investment. It's crammed into as tiny a space as they can get all that hardware, with poor ventilation and miserable thermal control, and no end-user ability to repair or troubleshoot the machine. Mine always ran hot enough to fry eggs on, even with as much extra fans I ran behind the machine to move the heat up and out, and the component temperatures (monitored by software) were always at the peak of or even exceeding the operating limits for those components. Granted, it had some powerful specs when I bought it, but they had no business cramming that much power into an enclosure that small, with fans that wouldn't turn on until the room was about to catch fire. It died within three years of purchase date due to a failed motherboard, and at $3600 original investment, is little more than a paperweight that will cost at least $800 plus labor to repair. I don't think I'll bother.

I've built and used Windows machines for many years, and I'll be the first to admit that the platform has a host of its own problems, mostly in the software and internal compatibility area, but at least I can work on them myself. The hard drive breaks, well, I can replace that this afternoon. Same with virtually any other component. And if the motherboard burns up, that's not going to cost $800 plus indeterminate labor charges and someone else's repair time, and at worst I can salvage and reuse the rest of the components. My Windows machine with better specs than that iMac 27" runs at barely above room temp, costs over $1000 less, and cranks along just fine. Sure, it has noisy fans, and it doesn't look as cool, but white noise doesn't bother me, and looks are superficial.

The iMac was sort of a whim, because I wanted to see what the fuss was about, and I'm always game to try new things. But I found that for one of my particular hobbies (3D graphics), most third-party software never even made it to the Mac platform, and even the mainstream stuff that did was usually a generation behind the WIndows versions in terms of maturity. For my other hobby (astrophotography), well, the situation was pretty similar. Telescope control software is a bit behind. Catching up, but still behind. I could have bought a lot of telescope for $3600.

The iMac was an expensive, failed, overheated experiment. I don't think I'm likely to head down that road again, regardless of how popular they are. The hot female Mac user, well, she can keep them.

Oh he's in. He's just so good that you don't know it.

I understand that he's trying to make a point that no computer is completely secure, but to make the claim that he can hack a Mac in 30 seconds is absurd. So, computerguyUT, can you leave my server alone? I've got work to do. Also, if you know a bunch of stuff about computers, I'm an IT consultant and maybe we can work together.

He's talking about using Single User Mode to reset passwords. Here's a note you "hacker" if Apple themselves publishes the instructions to do your "hack" it is not a hack.

You also cannot break FlieVault security as far as I know, so good luck with that...

I was watching him do the port attack with Little Snitch, so it wasn't just about single user mode. After 20 years of doing computer setup and support, it just kills me when people claim they can own a computer, particularly a Mac, after 30 seconds. Seriously, it bothers me because how many other people besides the users on Fark he's telling it to and that believe it? We need more informed users, not people buying into FUD. Confusion-->fear-->anger-->hate. I don't want to deal with fearful, angry, hateful users anymore.

AFAIK, there is no remote Mac OS X exploit, though I'm not sold that CUPS is secure though, so printer sharing could be a vector to get in.
