I had someone try to swear to me that the UN was coming to take our guns because Obama signed a treaty with them.

The spectacular ignorance of how American Government worked nearly made me facepalm myself to death.

Wait... the Politics tab could be even *more* ruined?

The Facebook things are the worst. There's always some stupid photo or post that is liked/shared by my sister or a high school friend. Completely devoid of logic and false at the most basic levels....and there is a mountain of likes/comments that make pointing out the failures impossible.

Somebody should make farkcheck.org

The "frowny-face-Obama says 'Ban Guns!'" banner ads (just now seen) aren't doing much to properly educate the tab's visitors either.

Hey Drew--I did like you asked and turned off Adblock for Fark. How about you show a little farking discretion in who/what you shill for? That seems like a fair exchange to me.

Yeah, where did those idiots ever get that idea from? 0bama would never try to ban any guns. Totally never. Totally.

Dueling graphics on the debt both overstated and understated President Obama's contribution to the debt. No, Obama didn't give Alaskan islands to Russia, and his early records weren't "sealed."Over-the-top "death panel" claims about the Affordable Care Act included purely invented stories about elderly Americans being denied dialysis or brain surgery.Vote-rigging conspiracies claimed that Tagg Romney owned voting machines in Ohio (he doesn't) and that uncounted military ballots swung the election for Obama (from a "faux news" site). In the tin-foil-hat category, one conspiracy said Obama was creating martial law and a "standing army of government youth." The adult-aged FEMA Corps members help with natural disasters and can't carry weapons.General Motors is still firmly based in the U.S., despite claims that it's becoming "China Motors."Old-but-still-kicking emails percolated, claiming that Medicare premiums were about to skyrocket, everyone's home sales would be taxed, and the Obama administration wanted to ban weapons among U.S. citizens - none of which is true. This reads like one of those lists of "trivia" in SomethingAwful's Awful Movie Database.

Wasn't the thing about Tagg Romney investing in a company that makes voting machines used in Ohio? And aren't investors technically considered part "owners" of the company?

I spent far too much time arguing with American friends on Facebook about that, patiently explaining over and over that no, the UN doesn't actually work that way and even if it did, any changes to the Irish constitution have to be voted in by us and we have a long history of not ratifying treaties to get a better deal for ourselves, so I don't see how any UN treaty is going to result in guys with blue helmets marching into the US and taking all your guns.

What REALLY pissed me off though was all the "studies" and "news stories" painting the UK as a lawless crime black spot where ordinary folk were terrified to walk down the street since they had been "disarmed" by their government. WTF?!

Anyway, most of them got sick of me constantly debunking their terrible stats and defriended me at different points over the year. My Facebook timeline is a much happier place since your election ended!

Let's be honest. Mr. Keyes does not believe in common gun control measures like the assault weapons bill. Mr. Keyes does not believe in any limits from what I can tell with respect to the possession of guns, including assault weapons that have only one purpose, to kill people. I think it is a scandal that this president did not authorize a renewal of the assault weapons ban.

I ended up blocking my cousin's FB feed because I got sick be being spammed. I counted, in one DAY, over 60 posts where she had shared some idiotic post about religion, evil liberals, or abortion. She supposedly homeschools her child and takes care of the younger one, but I'm almost positive that she spends all day posting crap on her smartphone.

2012-12-29 12:19:04 PM
Man...I couldn't imagine 60. I blocked a friend that went to work for the Ron Paul campaign after a half dozen per day over the course of a week or two.

My sister is just an immature 20yo that has no common sense, doesn't think of anyone but herself, and is woefully ignorant of reality in general. So, probably pretty normal.

60 posts though....I'd have trouble not punching them when I saw them next.

I have no idea why, I also got the Pro-Romney ones before the election, and was just looking at one with a stern faced Obama saying something about banning guns.

I know a politician from MO, he said the craziest and most consistent conspiracy theorists were the noodlers and the people who thought voting machines were rigged.

I did not mean to imply that. I'm sorry if I did. I just wanted to point out that is what I remember reading regarding Tagg and voting machines. I do recall there was concern that they may be rigged by some people, and I will admit that I was concerned and thought that company's machines should be watched very closely. Also, I understand owning stock does not necessarily mean you have much control over the company.

Dude, if we were going to have panels ordering the executions of all the Trigs, Torgs, Tunks, and Glenn Becks of the world, I think they would have already scheduled your appointment.

I thought the sarcasm in my last post was obvious.

The gun ban thing is the closest one you have to reality. The rest of these are out in derp field.
