As someone who used to live in SLO, I'm really getting a kick out of these.... oh, who am I kidding. This is probably the most newsworthy thing to happen there in ages.

A couple years ago I saw a car on a flatbed tow truck... upside down. I was wondering about the circumstances that led to that. And then when I thought about whether or not it was legal I got my answer as he got pulled over by a motorcycle cop. Wish I had taken a picture.

They're lucky it's winter break. On a normal school day that stop has 20+ people waiting for the bus onto campus.

Not so CSBS:
I've waited at this bus stop many times in the past, but it was always early in the morning. A runaway car would have certainly woken me up!

I've been down that offramp hundreds of times, and it is neither flat or straight, and comes off an exit only lane....wow.

I want to meet the engineer who designed that off-ramp.

That's not close to the worst flatbed towing incident this year.

The runaway bulldozer (pops) that killed two women in St. Louis was awful. Guy has a bulldozer on a flatbed, doesn't properly secure it, and drives too fast.

The "I didn't think that could be dangerous" defense didn't get him that far; he got eight years. Of course, the two women he killed in all probability lost out on much more time than that.

Was it a real offramp with up and down and 270 degree turns and reverse curves, or one of those boring straight ramps they love in the West?

It is convenient that this is in a place that never snows. An engineer might use a different design if the road ever ices. But I wonder about rain.

somebody hasn't heard of design speed and/or flunked out of high school physics, I see. it would have been more surprising if the car hadn't done that....

Would have been a lot funnier if he hadn't gone back leaving the police to try and figure out the driverless car that crashed into a bus stop.

Last year a man hauling a backhoe on I-495 in Massachusetts launched it onto a minivan. (story) The boss wanted to check on driver complaints about the truck. The complaints were legitimate. It could get a bit tricky to handle at highway speed.

The driver is facing misdemeanor homicide charges. I figure 6-12 months to serve, the remainder of the 2 1/2 year sentence suspended. The company is facing a lawsuit, which I expect to be settled for about $1 million (typical commercial insurance policy limit).

Some of the tards that they let drive these things astounds me. I could probably look it up but I think you need a license to operate a tow truck but not a rollback.

CSB
My motorcycle quit on me and I couldn't get it running again one hot-ass day about 5 miles from my place. I called for a rollback and after waiting a couple of hours, it shows up. The guy almost had blood shooting from his eyes trying to figure out the rigging you use for bikes. I had never seen these rigs before as I had never had a bike flatbedded before, but it didn't take much. I told him this goes there and that goes there and he had it set up. When we get to my place and he has the bed up and rolled back he goes up and starts to unhook the cable that is attached to the rigging that the front wheel is strapped into. I asked him what he thinks is going to happen when he unhooks that cable and he looks at me like I had 2 heads. I guess the finer points of how gravity works are too complicated for him. I told him to unhook the rear tie downs and get his ass on the controls and let the cable out as I guide it down the deck. In hind sight, I should have stood back and let him unhook that cable then collected the money for the insurance claim. I never did get it running again and gave it away for kidney cars.

the guy was an accident waiting to happen. he was already on probation for driving offenses and had his license suspended.  how he got a job driving is beyond me.

I'd be thinking of this story every single time I took that offramp from this point forward. I wouldn't be able to NOT think about it

I was at a stop light next to and behind a guy in a pickup truck with a washing machine in the back. The genius didn't want to scratch the bed so he had laid a sheet of plywood down , THEN loaded the washing machine.... then left the tailgate down.

It was very interesting as the light changed, and he accelerated, gearing up through second, third, and fourth.... and the washing machine lurched toward the abyss at the rear of the vehicle. It took the genius a while to think about looking in the rear view at what was happening. Last I saw of him was the turn signal and him pulling to the shoulder.
