They're innovative, that's the deal. That video clearly shows China's new anti-personnel manhole covers, designed to be used in the event of invasion. Or alternatively, to keep people out of the CHUDs' homeland. Chinese public works are very innovative, like the Streetscaper:

I mean, why not just make the public works out of the department? Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one???

But damn, that was scary.

I too would like to know what the hell she was doing. What was the flame or spark source? Was she using a blowtorch for light or something?

See a Manhole Cover Explode Directly Into a Woman's Face in China

Fark that, too many scripts from too many domains.

To be redundant in a human sense is a human crime, and you should be ashamed of yourself for using human beings as capital. That is all.

Did the poor girl live through that?  Or was that pieces of her falling all around the area after the explosion?

Looks like she was trying to open it with a prybar or crowbar. She succeeded, set it down, then it blew up. Probably needed some oxygen in there...

looked like she was trying to dump some used cooking oil, or barbeque ashes, possibly still smoldering, that's what set off the methane.

Ever since I saw the video of manhole covers blowing up in Alexandria Virginia because of an underground electrical fire, I've developed a phobia of walking over manhole covers. Always step to the side...

My missus is a fairly big cog in the civil engineering caper. Her company builds bridges, highways, water reservoirs, pedestrian walkways and overpasses etc etc. Anything that involved steel or concrete that was bigger than a house.

We were in Malaysia together and apart from the obvious things that even I noticed [eg. holes in the sidewalk - BIG FARKING HOLES - that went unrepaired for weeks] she was constantly pointing out shortcuts in construction. Accidents waiting to happen.

Even in 5 Star hotels she could spot shoddy workmanship everywhere she looked.

China would have to be 10 times worse.

Would you ride the Chinese bullet train????

Beautiful country, Malaysia.

From TFA:

The 24-year-old was rushed to the hospital to be treated after sustaining serious facial damage from the explosion, a likely build-up of biogas from nearby septic tanks. According to some reports, her family doesn't have the complete funds to cover the facial reconstruction surgeries.

um... i think monetary constraints imposed by corrupt bureaucrats is to blame here, actually. reverse engineering is actually a way to be a really good engineer, since you're getting to skip a whole lot of trial and error by choosing an evolved design. or were you trolling?

Sure. We all know both sides are bad so kindly ignore that Republicans' wet dreams are exactly this kind of deregulation and vote Republican anyway.
