So putting sub-zero ice on your skin is going to freeze the fat underneath it and cause the fat cells to die, but do nothing to your skin? Anybody with a GED in medicine from webmd want to chime in?

The sub-zero temperatures cause the fat cells to die. They are then flushed away by the body over the next few months.

How are they "flushed away"? How do they leave the body? This doesn't make sense.

I became aware of this process by overhearing two women discussing it in the gym. The woman who was going in for the procedure had decided to do so because it was the only way to eliminate that 'last little area that still had some fat', which was evidently (per her gesturing) a space of perhaps three square inches just above the hip.

This woman is the leanest person I have ever seen - that any 'medical professional' would go along with a procedure to eliminate the absolute last iota of any visible 'fat' from someone with such obvious body perception issues is ridiculous.

My GED in science from PubMed says the answer to your question is "good question, farked if we know how it works, we just know it works." My PubMed GED suggests someone just tried it once, noticed fat cells were dying first or easier and sweet we can make money off of it. No idea why it works that way though. This is how a lot of medicine actually is.

My understanding of how this works:
1) They freeze the fat
2) The protoplasm in the fat cell expands as it freezes breaking the cell walls
3) The frozen cell innards thaw out and settle somewhere in a lower area.
4) The broken cells are then absorbed by other cells and/or kicked out as part of the cellular waste removal process.

Science says that diet and exercise do not take off significant weight in the long term for the vast majority of people:

What's interesting is that there's absolutely no scientific study to support the idea that diet and exercise will result in significant long-term weight loss among most people but for some reason, people spout the idea with some semblance of authority.

The question is, since this works by contact with the skin, how does this procedure work on fat cells without affecting skin cells? This sounds like junk science at best; at worst, a high chance of getting severe frostbite.

Your scientific reasoning skills need significant work. Significant work.

• Your study doesn't address the question you think it does, nor does it even attempt to.
• Any reasonable tangential interpretation/hypothesis you might draw from your study suggests that yeah actually diet / exercise works.
• The very basis of your study is to choose studies for whom diet/exercise already worked. That was a meta-analysis of 29 diet/exercise regimens that worked.

But let's pretend we're actually discussing your study and it's relevant and whatnot. Here's a bunch of people who diet/exercise worked for. Let's check up on them 5 years later and see if they kept the weight off. Some of them didn't! So you conclude diet/exercise do not work? Holy farking shiat. I'm gonna have a farking seizure. MAYBE THOSE SUBJECTS DIDNT KEEP EXERCISING

We need to invent a pill that tricks your body into thinking its full and doesn't need to arbitrager. It must be a chemical process that tells your brain you've eaten enough. If its just a matter of the stomach actually being full then we need to invent an indigestable balloon that can be swallows then inflated and tied off. Something that won't abstruct food from being digested or doing into.the intestines but instead tricks your brain into always feeling full.
I know I can stop thinking about food unless I'm very full, only then do my cravings subside

Well, I'm a regular gym person, and after a couple years of solid thrice-weekly going, it just won't give me a flat stomach. I might give this a shot when I have more money and more research is done. It's very very very difficult or impossible to get rid of belly/love handle/ass cellulite just by dieting and exercise, so for that small percentage of people who work out and still have problem areas, this may be rather nice.

Thank you for showing the common sense that many many people refuse to show.
A friend insisted that a rub-on essential oil knew what part of the body to heal. I was dumbstruck by how undereducated someone must be to assert that.

That's more about diet than it is exercise. It's about getting your fat content below a certain percentage. You can get a flat stomach without any real exercise. But I mean, the diet sucks balls. Serious balls.

You know that your link says the exact opposite of what you said, right?

"Results:.....Six studies reported that groups who exercised more had significantly greater weight-loss maintenance than did those who exercised less."

Conclusion: Five years after completing structured weight-loss programs, the average individual maintained a weight loss of >3 kg and a reduced weight of >3% of initial body weight."
