First let me say Happy Birthday to our Sherpa!

When I worked at a big box retail store I had a co-worker who called himself the "Tool King". Since I had so much experience selling power tools they wanted to call me the "Tool Queen", I discouraged this.

You and Lilyspad were smart to choose the hardware department. I worked in the flooring department of a big box store and my title was "Carpet Bag". Definitely picking another department NEXT time!

Oh no!  How unfortunate!  lolol

quantum_jellyroll: It started snowing here in Indy this evening around 10PM.
It's a city that's full of monuments. Lots of monuments.
There's one called "The Soldiers and Sailors Monument", right in the center of downtown.
Indy residents simply call it "The Circle".

Every year since about 1960, it gets decorated with lights as "The Worlds Tallest Christmas Tree".
They turn the lights on the evening of the Friday after Thanksgiving.
I haven't been able to do much shooting this year, but I wanted to get some shots of
the Circle while it was lit and snow was falling.

While downtown Indy has a busy nightlife, it also has a certain degree of criminal element.
Walking around downtown, after 10PM, with an expensive camera that takes good pictures
is questionable judgement at best. So, I shot all my pictures out the drivers window while driving
around to shoot it from all directions..

Here's one...

[reneau.smugmug.com image 683x1027]

f/2.8, ISO 1600, 1/100 sec, handheld

If I get another chance to shoot it before they take down the lights, I may see if a
ham radio friend that's also a policeman would be interested in playing bodyguard
while I shoot them the *proper* way.

This brings back memories of my childhood in Indy.  We would go downtown, park and walk around looking in the windows of all the old department stores in the blocks around the Circle.  They would all decorate their windows with extravagant Christmas scenes - as if in a contest to see who could outdo who.  An amazing fantasy land for a young child!
And a cat:

Every Saturday, or at least most of them for the last couple of years, I do the following ritual.

1. Make an enormous cup of coffee.
2. Turn on CarTalk on NPR.
3. Look through the Caturday thread.

I honestly wish I could figure out how to post my cat online, Emma. You have all given me good advice whenever I've asked for it. And the constant pictures make me smile.

I just wanted to say that I'm glad you all have gathered here. It makes for a great start to my weekend. I wish you all the best for the New Year, and may God have mercy on your cute little cat-loving souls.

Thank you, Leepj! Now I can see what I've been missing! I've been waffling over the idea? Is it worth my five dollars? Now I'll know!

I missed out last Caturday due to a fight with my roomies over something completely stupid. Long story short, they were drunk, screaming at each other and while I tried breaking them up, they attacked me. Kitty was pretty scared and I'm now looking for a new place to live. I will not tolerate violence near me or OmegaTron. He never did trust them and now I know why.

Anywho! Christmas was fun! I brought kitty from PHX to the White Mountains and he mewed the whoooole 3 hour drive. Once I got him to my moms house, He got a little more attention than usual from my 1 year old and 3 year old nieces. They love him sooo much and just as he was warming up to everyone, I had to make the drive back home.

Here's my potential roommate's pug dog sleeping with an awkward pillow

Here is my other friend's cat, Noodle.

and finally OmegaTron in my apt after the Christmas drive.

tigerose: Good Meowning! I hope you all slept well. I woke up at the usual time, 6:30 and made myself go back to sleep. Having Eli the Bitey snuggling close didn't hurt the process!

It is snowing here again. Eli is unhappy..I wonder if he'd wear boots...

Tnx for alla fotos I may see! Been trying to do IRS Remedials to figure out who we still need Give To to avoid paying tax again (Haven't had to for few years now, we've had so many Itemisable Deductions)Some folks' fotos Inaccessibly Linkify, dunno why. It's not quite like lajimi's who I never get to see any more (due to own Lazy Fail Inactivity), but I sure don't wish this to continue either!
Since our Overlords & -Ladies don't get to lounge under our tree, it'll likely stay up til 12th Night as usual. Hope JFC for short who won the charitable kittybowls raffle by donating to DoomsDay Aardvark's Kayak for a/the Cure activity once school began again, he may realise that if he'd e-mail me a .jpg of Emma, I'd be quite pleased to fetch it here! Even honoured!
En route here, tripped over found Viking ship  item in today's. Spam reference in headline, Ennuipoet there said it's awful when Fark Folk (only some, luckily) don't pick up on Spam as a MontyPython reference. They who don't, need Education .
RealWomenDrinkAkvavit made coupla posts there; she may show up here Yet Today. I finally took a foto of the ScandahoovianHeadgear referred to few weeks back. Here 'tis:

i.imgur.com

This is the aforementioned FourWinds cap, bought in Finland on our most recent visit a lifetime ago & worn by moi  to sing Christmas carols under.  Chorus costume chair requested/demanded Cute Holiday Headgear/Scarves for cited outdoor performances. Originated in Lapland, where only real direction is North. My ancestors came from furr-ther south, & cousins still live there. We heard from 2 sets of them for the howl-idays.
FourWinds is modeled by the Nefertiti bust from one of the E Berlin art museums, acquired by bit of Surreptitious Currency Activity for my late mom Back In The Day, ~ same time as cap purchase. Another Cold War Story, natch.
