Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas... I ended up cooking my first turkey.. was actually pretty good... Fred and the crew got some too !
I agree with Ice Queen also..  judge got bought off.. or that,s his secret mom...  those folks have patience.. I would have gotten it and left. There will be more about this in the future, I'm sure....

I wonder how long she had the fostered the cat and why the owners didn't look harder for a place that would accept their pet.

Hello everybody! Back from visiting my parents. I enjoyed it, but now I am pooped!

I enjoyed seeing her cat Tabby again. She was quite affectionate, sitting in laps, purring..evidently the treatment for her CRF is working well. She seems very perky.

And Eli was tremendously glad to see us. He was napping with hubby, and looking too cute...now he is on my lap, rubbing the ipad...

Christmas is coming DOWN!!! :D I'm kindof CDO, so it grates on me to have all this weird stuff up in my house. Plus, I'm not really into Christmas in general any more...just lost my enthusiasm for it, I guess. Part of that comes from working retail, and I've been doing Christmas since Halloween! UGH!

Sophie's looking excellent, James 72. Might be all the attention & affection she gets.
Maybe shouldn't have votied for Tale Of This Week. Agreed, cat's fam of origin (so to speak) coulda sought harder for place to stay they could take him to as well. But I've known people who've been up against an immovable deadline, they had to move & cat couldn't go with. We helped in such a case, before Great Feline Takeover of house. Took in an older cat same day we adopted a kitten. No cat wars then.
Maudlin, your new camera seems to work quite well. Pleased to see decent fotos of 2.

Quick backstory.

1) We always pick up Suzy poop.

2) I speak for Suzy.

Now for the story

Suzy and I just came back from a walk. Suzy went running to Mr. Witch. He was rubbing Suzy's ears and mentioned that it's cold out there. Suzy then proudly said "I made a hand warmer for mom, dad. I made it all by myself!"

imageshack.us

Maybe I should have waited for Mr. Witch to finish taking a drink. He's still choking.

Here's one of his first foray's into having an Etsy page.
I remember he sold a ton of these to Farkers for Valentines Day in 2007.
He used part of the proceeds to purchase Dragons first trailer-load of
Purina Spicy Wing Nuggets.

Too bad he neglected to copyright the idea before it became a Farkism and
the Chinese pumped out billions of knockoffs with higher lead content...

Sickapie: OlderGuy: Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas...

I'd have hired myself a team of ninjas to go in.

/what?

Poor woman probably hired a crummy lawyer. Would have been cheaper to play nice, go over every other day to 'visit' the kitty and leave the 83 yo woman a bucket of fried chicken each trip. Let nature take it's course.

Cool!  Someone's been a good boy, lol.

I'd be interested to know what you think of it.  Looks like a fun unit.  It's time to put my used abused SX200is out to pasture and I'm having trouble choosing a replacement.  Was thinking of going Nikon this time.  If you or anyone else has any suggestions, I'm all ears!

Yes, post many fur-kid pics!  :)  Give your little guys a scritch behind the ears from me.

Happy Birthday, Sherpa!  Hope it's a great one.

Got some new fosters.  They are still pretty feral, so no pics yet.  Hopefully I can get them to be a bit more sociable so they can be adopted into new homes.  First wild ones I have fostered-they are definitely a challenge.

In an hour my husband's going to be at the vet with our oldest male cat Sebastian, a/k/a the Beast, to find out if he had a stroke or not.  He's fifteen, he's been walking in circles and staggering and he's been hiding, which he's never done.  I made sure to spend time with him before I had to go to work toda just in case of the worst.  He was my cat before I met my husband, so I have to make the final decision remotely.  I was hoping I had a picture of him on me but I don't.  This sucks.  :(

CSB that I've shared on TotalFark a few times. It's a dog, but still relevant:

A few years ago my girlfriend moved in with me, bringing her dog. We got engaged and nearly married, but she took off with another guy just before the wedding. Once the dust settled she moved out and left her dog behind, with us agreeing to have me tend over the dog while she found a place that would accept him. She would wire me money each month for his food and vet bills. She paid me for a couple months of his care and we parted ways.

sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net

Two and a half years and no money later, she sends me an e-mail saying she would like her dog back now. I laughed and told her no. She sent me a very formal letter threatening to have me jailed if I didn't comply. I responded with a letter from my lawyer, letting her know that threatening criminal charges during a civil dispute is frowned on by the courts, and that he'll milk her for everything he can if she wants to take it to trial.

Never got a response from her.

First let me say Happy Birthday to our Sherpa!

When I worked at a big box retail store I had a co-worker who called himself the "Tool King". Since I had so much experience selling power tools they wanted to call me the "Tool Queen", I discouraged this.

Had a great Christmas here in TX, The kitties got a huge box of Tuna Temptations treat samples, They all wanted to see what was in the box

The resident kitty Max decided that he would be the one who doles out the treats to those who deserve them.

I wish I could, but I have no vacation time left.  Fortunately I can hide out in my cube and not get bothered.  I've been in this situation before and when I've been spending one-on-one time with him (everything started on Xmas) I've been crying my tears and saying my goodbyes just in case.  He has been eating, drinking and using the litter box and the reason I told my husband to call me to make the final decision is that if something can be done that's not too intrusive I want it to be done.  While my husband loves our cats, he can also be maddeningly stingy at the absolute wrong time.  Case in point--he's taking the Beast to our old vet thirty miles away instead of the well-received vet clinic six blocks away because he thinks the latter will charge us too much.  :headdesk:

& ah yiss, the Adoption Tale threatened/promised. Plumbicon's cousin Fred & lady wife Holly up near Cleveland (Richfield actually) were adopted in July of this year when a grey tabby stray began sleeping under their bushes. Abiout the time they began feeding her they found 1) she has one blue & one green eye & 2) she was verrry pregnant. Shortly there were 5 cats there, not exactly what they had in mind. Homes for 2 kittens were found, which leaves mom Greta (now spayed), daughter Mia (small version of Greta) & son Max (tuxie). There'd never been kittens nor more than one cat there before, & not since ~2007. Mia & Max are now 5 months old, so no tree (sent them link for Cats & Trees thread). Both furkids'll be fixed in ~a month.  Told them about Sake' & Scampi, that they may not wish to wait quite that long.
Fred's the one who came up with term creamsicle for orange & white.
Not able to get under this to type either. Leapt out at me from imgur Virals grid yesterday, killawhaletank titled this These showed up on my deck yesterday morning. & aye, they do seem to be bob-kittens. Behind glass is surely safest place to be, cute tho they are; with sharp fangs & claws!

Well, I just heard from the vet, and it wasn't what I expected to hear--apparently he's almost completely blind.  One of his retinas is detached and he had a small hemmorhage in the other eye, and the vet said that the detached retina can happen suddenly.  They're running lab work that hopefully will turn up something, but the vet seemed pretty optimistic that whatever it is isn't fatal and that medication should help.  As far as his vision, now what was happening makes sense--he was hiding in places headfirst (the light was hurting his eyes), he came to me because he knows my voice, and he was circling as his own form of radar to figure out where things were.  We can adapt to that.

Good to hear that he is manageable, my old Maynerd was nearly blind and deaf when she went to the bridge at age 19. The only thing that really worked near the end was her nose. The kids would open a can of tuna and wave it near her when she was sleeping just to see her jump up and beg for some juice from the can. She was a good old kitty, our Maynerd.

Well, I can relate to that situation, too. My Bonnie is mostly blind, starting about 6 years ago or so. It turned out that she had hyperthyroidism. One of the symptoms is high blood pressure, which can affect the blood vessels of the eye. She gets along well with a dose of methamazole (there are other, similar meds). He should do well; just don't rearrange the furniture. Good luck!

Couple of sleepy cats (aren't they always?) on the same bed on different days.

On a completely unrelated subject, got an appointment with a different doc at a different clinic this afternoon.  Fasting until blood work then.  They said don't eat for 8 hours before.  These docs are on salary so I'll actually be able to talk to them about my suspicions that it is hormonal, specifically adrenal with either some thyroid or, more likely, some estrogen/progesterone imbalance.  Of course, that means I have to wait until the new blood work comes back before I'll know if that is the reason I'm tired so often.

Low adrenal function also has symptoms such as anxiety, hyper reaction to emotional or physical stimuli, severe allergic reactions, lower back pain, severe headaches or migranes, chronic or frequent infections, and many more.  I have been diagnosed with ADHD, Generalized Social Anxiety Disorder, and was told by an ob/gyn as a teen that I had a hormone imbalance.  I have sore throat/sinusitus/bronchitis rounds often enough I'd consider them chronic, either severe allergies or outright asthma, although they have gotten less frequent I've had headaches so bad I've had to go lie in a dark room with a washcloth over my eyes, and that's just a few of the ones that stand out to me.

Debby7813: Marisyana: Debby7813: Marisyana: In an hour my husband's going to be at the vet with our oldest male cat Sebastian, a/k/a the Beast, to find out if he had a stroke or not. This sucks.  :(

Try not to jump to the worst conclusion. I came home to a very similar situation with my Dinah years ago, and it turned out that she had an inner ear infection. She walked with her head tilted for months even after she was better. Keep good thoughts!

Good luck!

///nmc, nmc

He's had hugely dilated pupils for a long time so I think his vision has been an issue for a while, and the vet also thinks it's hyperthyroidism.  The one thing that concerns me is making sure he gets enough food.  He's never been a big cat to begin with--at his highest weight he was just under eight pounds, now he's 5.5 pounds.  Then again, it's hard to eat when you can't find the food dish.  We're going to start giving him morning and evening food (we have eight other cats so he can use the usual dry food as snacks) and hopefully that will bring his weight up.  We won't have the blood work results until next week but as I said before the vet thinks it's something that can be controlled.  Yay for my Beast!

I'm getting a bit hungry, but I can't eat until after blood work, which means I don't want to eat until after my appointment in case the Dr wants to add a test or three.  So, I'm getting a bit cranky, or I was until I saw that pic!   I really needed that laugh!  (Think they both have milk breath?)

2012-12-28 02:48:24 PM
just spent the last three days being sick as a dog...and my dogs aren't sick.  Yipee for the flu...even had the damned flu shot.  At least I've been awake since 7 this morning.  I've been sleeping all day and night the last 2 days with a few times up to feed the dogs and cats (forgot about the water dishes....they forgave me).  I did have some nice nurse dogs and cats.  Hoover, the larger of my dogs was not letting me out of his sight.  He wanted to be right next to me.  And you know how good it is to have a fur blanket next to you when you have a fever.  I tried sleeping on the couch but Louie (one of the cats) stared at me.  I left and went back to bed.    I've not been this sick in eons.  I went to the doctor today to make sure I was ok and to get a doctors note....should the 'blonde' who thinks she is my boss (she isn't) go into a hissy fit that I was not in the office or working from home!  (if she does, I will talk to HR, I'm tired of the bully behavior)  I did what work I could but I couldn't even see the computer let alone do math.

I think I need nurse's caps for the pets.

And thank you to my totalfark sponsor.  That was a wonderful Christmas gift!  Made me smile when I saw.  Thank you very much.

Salem Witch: Quick backstory.

Maybe I should have waited for Mr. Witch to finish taking a drink. He's still choking.

I've never seen *that* one on Survivor Man!

lilyspad: CooperDaKat: I want to give a BIG thanx to ArmednHammered for the TF, which allowed me to be here early for the infamous Sherpa B-Day party and Roast!!!

I wanted to share some old photos of our beloved Sherpa....

Here's one from his college days....
[i384.photobucket.com image 640x545]

Here's one from our Tijuana trip (if it wasn't for the photos, we wouldn't have any idea of what happened ;-) )
[i384.photobucket.com image 466x300]

One from his Hawaiian business trip...
[i384.photobucket.com image 487x381]

And finally, that one time he agreed to pose for me (with the help of lots of rum) when I first got into photography...

MyDogThrowAway who fetched this from reddit (he emphatically not doing so!) titled this My dog has terminal cancer. I've noticed he & my cat have been cuddling a lot more since he got sick. Copied comment of his from reddit: I'm actually feeling grateful to have found out about the cancer while he is still doing pretty well(eating, going on little walks, wagging his tail). I have an opportunity to spend some quality time with him and say all my goodbyes before it gets really bad and I have to put him down. This dog is my best bud and it is going to suck when he leaves, but we've had an awesome 7 years together and I'll always feel thankful for that.
We are going to go balls to the wall until the fat lady sings! Already working on the doggy bucket list. At Christmas we checked "eat a bunch of dry aged prime rib roast" off the list.

What else is there to say?  Didn't see what the dog's called, but he has a very loving hoo-mon.

Happy Caturday all!

Sake is doing well after her visit to the vet. I'm not sure which part was more fun, the dog in the waiting room deciding to pee on us or Sake climbing my urine soaked coat while the vet was trying to vaccinate her.

She does seem to be over the trauma though, as you can probably tell.

Then someone threw this little girl out back home. As far as I know, she was on her own for at least 4 days. Waiting to hear from the rescue as to when I can bring her in. Right now she's been staying in the foster room because she's not too keen on my heathens. Definately been an indoor cat. Took right to the litter box and she actually went in the carrier (mine don't even do that without a fight!). Her tummy is a little firm but I'm hoping its because she's been eating like a queen for a few days now. Guess I'll know for sure when she gets her physical.....

Dropped the little one off at the In-Laws, didn't want to have an almost 2yo in a lab during blood work.  Dr. didn't do the blood work, I'm going in first thing Monday.  Got to talk to Dr. for about a quarter of an hour.  A bit surprised the blood pressure was 129/69, it's usually a bit lower.  Had nice meal at a buffet restaurant on way home after finding out Father-In-Law didn't want to give up the little one.  Watched Captain America: The First Avenger on Netflix with hubby.  Our youngest feline LOVES the blanket my mother got me for my birthday back in October.  I tossed him (gently) from my chair to check Caturday onto the blanket and within seconds of landing on his feet on the blanket he was going push-push.  Still doing it, I'll probably have a damp spot on it when I go to bed.  Not orphan kitten, just LOVES that blanket!

2012-12-28 09:10:17 PM

Been doing Other Stuff, not quite naughty. Watched the 30 min newish Vikings & dragons movie, Secret of the Night Fury or some such that was just on (well, ended at 8:30P ET). Also trying to fabricate list of what's been given to 501c3s this year, since all of them are begging loudly again.  Also have a double scan needing done.
Ah, a calico guinea pig 'tis, in the pink shades. Nice.
I hate fasting blood work too.  It's to my advantage as well to get an Early Lab Appt for such.  Not quite 0dark30, not related to the new flick -- reference dates to much furr-ther Ago.  WW2 for sure, maybe even WW1.

I have managed to drag myself from the bowels of the rides from the 9 levels of HELL.
I am  supposed to be taking it very easy as I have my "lets take chunks out of your heart for shiats and giggles" surgery January 2nd.
Yeah.
Like THAT'S going to happen.
I mean me "taking it easy" :P
How can I celebrate  Sherpa's Young Day and New Years if I can't have my 1-3 drinks?

I'll most likely be spending new years alone just like I spent this Christmas. I couldn't bear to bring out the boy's little christmas tree this year...maybe next year.

Mouth is still stitched up - stitches removal doesn't happen until Jan.8 *sigh* and is frustrating as there's been little healing happening so still can't talk and still swollen and blegh.

However - I checked in and Gremlin had a GREAT christmas!
His first REAL Christmas tree INSIDE full of jangly and sparkly non cat toy decorations!
I hear he only managed to pull the tree down 3 times before she got someone to anchor it for her hahaha! His two senior ladies of course did not mess with the tree -so there was no one else he could pin it on :3

We live in a fair sized college town near campus, but have a lot of parks and streams in the area.  We might have the odd raccoon or skunk in the area but are far more likely to have the occasional feline visitor from time to time.  Glad the visitor this time was able to leave peacefully.

Kyro: CSB that I've shared on TotalFark a few times.

[sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net image 425x317]

Two and a half years and no money later, she sends me an e-mail saying she would like her dog back now. I laughed and told her no. She sent me a very formal letter threatening to have me jailed if I didn't comply. I responded with a letter from my lawyer, letting her know that threatening criminal charges during a civil dispute is frowned on by the courts, and that he'll milk her for everything he can if she wants to take it to trial.

Never got a response from her.

Sounds like my ex-girlfriend.  Engaged, supposed to get married.  She decides I'm not exciting enough (she's living with a biker now) but she can't take her cats or most of her junk.  I agree to store her stuff "for a while" and keep her cats until she can find a place big enough, she's supposed to give me money to care for her cats.  After the first bag of Iams she doesn't chip in a cent.  She got all pissy when I told her she had to come and get her crap as I'm selling and moving, and I don't have any room for her shiat.  I ask her about "her" cats (they've been mine for 2 years) and she says she can't take them, she'll take them to the humane society where as old cats they'd last about 3 days or so.  I say nope, my cats now, come and get your crap or it will end up at the street.  She gets her stuff, leaves me the cats.

A few months later Cleo cat passes away.  I paid the vet bills, I buried her in the back yard, I cried my eyes out.  She biatches because I didn't call her and tell her the cat was sick, the cat she abandoned with me.  biatch.

A year later Gizmo cat passes suddenly.  I pay the emergency vet bill, I cry my eyes out.  She biatches because I told her son (he works at the same place I do, I got him the job) and didn't call her immediately.  biatch.

I still haven't told her that Spamcat passed this last summer.  Spam was always mine, I had her before we met, I had her after she left.  I really don't give a damn about ever telling her.

/Can you tell what I think of her?
//Cleo, Gizmo, and Spam are all in my pet cemetery

My next door neighbor dog has been barking (at nothing) for 30 minutes now....I'm about ready to go all "postal" on someone.... ACK!!!!!!

Yup.  Got one of those too.  Big black lab right behind us.  Owners are inconsiderate morons who just let him bark. Either that or they leave their kids in charge of him.  One time, he was out there for a solid hour barking.  I was about to call the cops, but he finally stopped.

Timid Goddess: [i1230.photobucket.com image 850x637]

[i1230.photobucket.com image 850x637]

Please PLEASE tell me they are doing a full blood panel on you?
please.
I am worried.
/my fault for being the living symbol of "health" - I have learned too much!
//should I be worried I can read lab results better than some of my doctors?
///I can help!

best way to do any lab work that requires fasting - do it over night as most people tend to sleep 6+ hours then head right in. so much easier than driving ones self nuts during the day *yuk*

Hubby made the appointment yesterday for today, it was what they had available.  I have an "official" lab appointment of 8:40am Monday, but they said they open at 8:00am, show up and they might be able to get me in earlier.  And come back in two weeks is much better than getting called a week later and told cholesterol is a bit high, take fish oil and come back in six months when I'm coming in for low energy.  About a week or two after that, I'm having less energy than before.  Just about everyone, including (I feel) the new Dr. seems to think I have untreated depression.  I just think it's weird that I can have several symptoms of depression without being, well... depressed for extended periods.  Yes, I will sometimes cry for little reason for several hours, but I don't feel like I'm sad for weeks on end.  And so many of the symptoms just fit for low adrenal function.  Not two or three out of a bunch, but most to nearly all are a match for either just adrenal or adrenal with another gland thrown in.

Thanks for letting me ramble.

My depression manifested as physical illness, lack of focus, too much sleep and lack of energy.I thought I had chronic fatigue syndrome or really messed up glucose since I recognized some of the lethargy from hypoglycemia. I am a really optimistic and happy person, so the diagnosis really surprised me. However, I was thrilled because it was the correct diagnosis and antidepressants brought me back to myself! If they put you on an antidepressant to test this diagnosis, you might look into the ones that are targeted to the physical symptoms (through  norepinephrine , I think) and not just the serotonin transmitters.

I just hope you can figure out why you're feeling so lousy and make 2013 your "comeback" year!

I wouldn't jump the shark and just think it's depression - that's usually the last thing I tend to think of since I've been living the "healthcare worlds wet dream" of everythingthatcanpossiblybewronginabodyisandthensome.
At this point I feel like I should just say a mighty FU to every one of the healthcare "professionals" and just become a doctor my damn self haha ...hmm...
Symptoms like that could be something as "mainstream" as thyroid issues, to like you mused before hormonal imbalances or it could actually be something to really look at - heart health, and nerves that are being pinched somewhere, a knock to the head....
None of what you describe sounds good, but I always err on the side of caution and have learned to look in every possible direction and then go all balls out and look randomly. That's how we've found my other two c's and other non-invited partiers up in this husk.
/and it's not rambling. Not at all.

And so many of the symptoms just fit for low adrenal function.  Not two or three out of a bunch, but most to nearly all are a match for either just adrenal or adrenal with another gland thrown in.

Thanks for letting me ramble.

This can also be a symptom of too low estrogen or progesterone.

It started snowing here in Indy this evening around 10PM.
It's a city that's full of monuments. Lots of monuments.
There's one called "The Soldiers and Sailors Monument", right in the center of downtown.
Indy residents simply call it "The Circle".

Every year since about 1960, it gets decorated with lights as "The Worlds Tallest Christmas Tree".
They turn the lights on the evening of the Friday after Thanksgiving.
I haven't been able to do much shooting this year, but I wanted to get some shots of
the Circle while it was lit and snow was falling.

While downtown Indy has a busy nightlife, it also has a certain degree of criminal element.
Walking around downtown, after 10PM, with an expensive camera that takes good pictures
is questionable judgement at best. So, I shot all my pictures out the drivers window while driving
around to shoot it from all directions..

Here's one...

f/2.8, ISO 1600, 1/100 sec, handheld

If I get another chance to shoot it before they take down the lights, I may see if a
ham radio friend that's also a policeman would be interested in playing bodyguard
while I shoot them the *proper* way.

WTF? I have no sympathy for someone who's willing to spend 10,000 GBP (her own legal fees) for a cat. They must be rich to begin with, or just idiots. If my wife spent $1000 to get a cat back I'd divorce her or have her committed.

The family should just wait it out. That old biatch will kick off soon enough, or be hospitalized.

"District Judge Ryan dismissed Mrs Mahoney's civil claim 'for the return of her personal chattel (cat named Frankie)' but did not explain his reasons."

his reasons were because he's a farktard idiot and has shiat for brains

The old coont will die soon. Then you can get your cat back.

Good Meowning! I hope you all slept well. I woke up at the usual time, 6:30 and made myself go back to sleep. Having Eli the Bitey snuggling close didn't hurt the process!

It is snowing here again. Eli is unhappy..I wonder if he'd wear boots...

I've done the same thing, at about the same spot.  I did get a cop to stand as bodyguard while I made my shot.  Had an expensive camera and an expensive tripod and it was before they had done much of the revitalization of downtown.  There were some areas that were really dicey.  Good luck to you, I love the circle at Christmas, especially when it's snowing.

Hope everyone is enjoying the Holidays!  New kitten (appropriately named Mayhem) at the PBJT household really enjoys the Christmas tree and I'd love a few good captions for this picture.

Very pretty! There's a monument to George Washington in downtown Baltimore that is on a tall pedestal like that, and is decorated in a similar manner each holiday season.

Overslept Once More, have just watched vid AlienDandelion linkied to, that she couldn't figure why she finds it amusing. Amusing cause it's a) funny b) creative PS-wise c) no critters were harmed in its production.
Have comment re 'stache b'day card posted for sherpa yesterday. Tho a hard card (real!) it's actually animated by small battery, with sound track (whistled TootTootTootsie). Plot may be afoot, requiring Technical Advice. to be requested privately from sherpa becuz I Dunno How.
Meanwhile, Good Meowning as it still is!

This is one of the neighbourhood feral cats, he started to living in our backyard this summer (we have a shaded patio). We've named him Old Guy as he looks rather old. This is him enjoying his Christmas dinner of Turkey and Gravy (one of the other nieghbours feds the cat colony regularly). He currently lives in an insulated box in our back stairwell. It's a good deal for him as he gets a warmish, dry place to sleep and we like it because it keeps the other feral cats out of our backyard.
