No Time To Explain: I thought there was drugs that counteract how stimulants worked, thereby making a "meh, I'm over this" effect in the brain's pleasure centre

/unless I'm mistaken
//also, this is new for China? I thought this was how they made everybody
///I keed, I keed

Naltrexone - blocks the opioid receptors so you don't feel the high when you take the drug.

DO YOU GUYS REALIZE HOW CHEAP AN OPIATE ADDICTION WOULD BE WITHOUT QUACKS IN THE WAY?

How's 50 cents a day strike you? Cigarettes are more expensive! But instead of realizing some people have more or less endogenous opioids then others.. we say fark it - let's torture them instead.

THERE IS NOTHING UNHEALTHY ABOUT OPIATE USE THROUGH QUALITY MEANS!.

/seriously, what the hell is up with wanting to torture unhappy people??????

Wolf892:

Think so? I'm no expert, but I'd hope that a fully developed adult brain would be able to learn these tasks a lot quicker than an underdeveloped brain of a child. Not sure though, but it is a good point to consider...

It's the opposite. The developing brain of a child is much, much better at learning then the developed/static brain of an adult.

So it's to be vitamins, then?  Welly well well.

vodka: MisterLoki: Protip: China sucks.

Throughout recorded history China has many times been on the cutting edge of technology. In fact they often have had the most advanced technology in the world. However, so far they seem to fail at taking advantage of it due to the stupidity of their government.

I've read that the lack of competing states that are both close in proximity and roughly equal in size and strength have allowed powerful Chinese governments the dubious luxury of abandoning technological advances when it suited them. In Europe, if one state, for example, decided to get rid of their navy because they didn't want ships anymore, the other European states would have obvious advantages. China didn't have a competitor like that until the British decided that yes, they would sell all the opium they liked and there wasn't anything China could do about it.

It's okay to use this methos in the US to treat depression and obsessive compulsive disorder, but by golly don't use it to treat addiction. Actually, I would think that taking away pleasure from a depressed individual would only cause more depression in him.

Oh wait a minute, The US and Canada use this method on depressed people and they are the good guys and the Chinese are the bad guys. My bad. Well, after Newton, Connecticut it's going to be used a whole lot more now.

I bet they'll especially use it on autistic people, especially those with Asperger's syndrome.

You know, I think I'd take this over the Chinese version.

Remove the pleasure center. Why not become a Teabagger?

2012-12-28 07:02:28 AM
Interesting argument from the past, but depending on what they're addicted to (heavy drugs, not the soft stuff like cigarettes, caffeine, pr0n, etc.), haven't they pretty much already forfeited their will to live?

Nothing To See Here: Over here we call it Hip Hop music.

Up here in Canada we call it marriage.

The average chinese 'slave' won't experience much joy anyway. Gotta keep those slaves focused to keep those Wal Mart prices low.

A Tea Party utopia, I wonder why the tea party members don't move there?

super_grass: Honestly, I don't see an issue with this as long as it's applied consistently.

Rapists and child molesters are sick in the head, and now we have medical procedures to take care of the fact. Hell, we should do the same for violent criminals and sociopaths.

There are sick animals in this world, if we don't feel like putting them down we might as well neuter them mentally.

Except for the sick f*cks you vote for right? Authority is, after all, the anti-sin.

The 12 steps work perfectly - if YOU work the program. Have you gone to your meetings?, worked your steps?, read you Big Book?, call your sponsor?, get in '90 in 90'?. Well then that's why you failed. You must surrender to the program - the steps work if you work them but you have to work them every day! Any other type of subversive attempts are denial in action. Surrender to the program... we have assumed control. We have assumed control. We have assumed control.

And research has shown that people who can't form long term memories can still learn new, complex, skills. This would mean that while you might not remember a lot of what you used to know, you haven't exactly forgotten it. Any knowledge you used to have will be far easier to retrieve once you start learning things. Just think about it, you'd go through your first 12 years in schooling in maybe half the time it took you the first time around. And let us not forget that most people with amnesia still remember how to talk and use the toilet, so that would be a plus.

Will it at least teach me the best way to survive a gun fight is to stand in the exact middle of eveyone as they shoot while I beat them in the neck and face area?

I'm sure this will be done in the states soon. There are plenty of people who would think perpetual anhedonia is as good as most addicts deserve, filthy little weaklings that they are.

There is a drug that "occupies" whatever receptors take up cocaine, and prevents it from being any fun.

They were slow to take up iron, as I understand. Scarcer, more expensive bronze weapons and tools for the upper classes suited the powers that be just fine, who needs to arm the rabble?

I wanted to kill myself while I was on that. It was better just to smoke. I eventually quit on my own.

Wolf892: I remember an episode of House where some guy had some mental thing going on. Long and short, he volunteered to have a jolt of electricity run through his brain that would wipe all of his memories... I can't find out if such a thing is possible anywhere...but wouldn't that be wonderful? Destroy the sense of longing in the brain, and wipe the memory completely. You could in essance start a brand new life and leave all baggage behind. I'd love to do that. It sure would beat suicide.

Sounds great...except all of the EXTERNAL BS that made your life miserable would still follow you.

I, for instance, will still be hounded by creditors who take 25 percent of my income for as long as I live, regardless of whether my memories get erased.

Suicide sounds pretty good to me.

The first thing I thought of when I read this was the MASS use of "icepick" lobotomies in the early 20th century and late 19th. They really thought they had "The Cure™" for mental illness, across the board. Basically the lobotomy just severed the nerves that allowed you to experience emotions which were widely believed to be the cause of most mental illnesses. Then after the procedure you got someone back that had the personality of a table and the agreeability of a mirror. The first guy to really get it going was a real piece of crap. he had a personal record of 25 lobotomies in ONE day, with AN audience, OF COURSE! He performed thousands of these procedures in his life... What a piece of crap and now the Chinese are apparently trying to outdo this blemish on history by smothering it with with a cargo container of red paint...

I think they'll win this one in the long-run, although it isn't something to be proud of. Unless the entire world community really does get pissed off at them and threatens possible trade sanctions; which will only start to happen once everyone's OWN scientific communities and also larger international groups basically call-out the procedure for what it really is. Though sanctions are HIGHLY unlikely, that IS the only bad thing that could come out of this for China if somehow enough anger was generated by it. Plus the simple fact that this is very much most likely going to be a very probable human rights violation, that may need UN intervention one day--again IF there is enough sentiment. I'm guessing Russia AS USUAL (I really do want to give Russia the benefit of the doubt, that they would side with the correct stance--but, since this is "state affairs" and Russia doesn't like anyone poking around their country either, I highly doubt they'll side with the correct group even though their own scientists will most likely say the same thing...so they "save a little face") will take the 5th--and try to play it from both sides (something about a cake and eating it...).

That's my long version of what could happen. BUT, we could get lucky and the change could come from within and to be honest that would be by far the best solution for all. But, if this does continue we'll see if the world has the stomach to just let it slide by non-stop, while they do business with them as it continues under their noses.

teto85: They used to make them organ donors.  So this is a bit of an improvement.

1 step forward, 3 steps back. I imagine somehow they also managed to wipe a specie off the planet during all of this. I"m sure they "discovered" that the blow hole from a rare porpoise can "heal" the sick.

Over here, we advertise it on TV:
" Important Safety Information
Some people have had changes in behavior, hostility, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal thoughts or actions while using CHANTIX to help them quit smoking."

2012-12-28 07:09:38 PM
"53% of patients had a change in personality, but the authors describe the majority of these changes as "mildness oriented," presumably meaning that they became more compliant."

China knows how to surgically make people more compliant?

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?!
