The director of an unnecessary remake says the next unnecessary remake will be different? Of course it will, bless his heart.

As there's a very good chance that Kate Beckinsale will don a skintight outfit and pout for the camera, I might-nah, not enough of an incentive to endure this.

I think what gets me isn't that this asshole keeps remaking movies that don't need remakes, sucking at it, and getting paid millions to do it. No, what gets me is that, on top of all that, he gets to go home and fark Kate Beckinsale at the end of the day. That's just a cosmic 'fark you' right there. Clearly, the universe hates us and wants us to die.

Funny, I watched Big Trouble in Little China last night. I had no idea it was written by WD Richter, the very man responsible for Buckaroo Banzai. Though in hindsight it makes perfect sense given the tone of the two films.

Hey Hollywood: reboot one of those two.

Make it an R rated movie and I'll give you my $12.

Unnecessary remake? I saw the original in the theaters and was the target demographic. It was a Schwarzenegger movie when he was in his prime, and it was really pretty lame. I thought the Colin Farrel one was fine, and I dont usually go for remakes. To me, the original Total Recall was a cartoon, and probably the least of any Philip K Dick movie ever made.

As for Big Trouble in Little China, no need for a reboot on that one. It embraced its campiness and had fun.

Probably a blessing in disguise. You can still enjoy watching those films today, without having to be reminded about how Chris Pine did a terrible Kurt Russell impression for an hour 45.

This....some movies are just meant to be left the fark alone.

How do these people keep getting work? I thought his Total Recall remake was universally reviled. He managed to make a film with some very nice visuals boring. He makes vampires vs werewolves boring. But the studios keep letting them make movies.

God, enough already. Total Recall 2.0 sucked, and The Mummy franchise ran itself into the ground. Do we really need to go back to it so soon? It's crazy.

You know, just yesterday I saw the latest Spider-Man flick. It wasn't bad. Actors portrayed their roles well, for the most part. It was decently entertaining for what it was. But what was the point? We just freaking saw that thing a decade ago.

You know as well as I do there's going to be a Batman reboot within 5 years.

It makes money. Same reason why "Fill in the blank" Movie guys keep making movies.  Low budget that makes profit all over the world.  Not a lot, but on the plus side.

Or he sucks a mean cock

The remake of WarGames is due in 2014. Can't wait to see what an acoustic DSL connection looks like.

Since 'Red Dawn' already set the precedent of not messing with China and made North Korea the new enemy, I'm thinking Venezuela and their huge invisible nuclear arsenal will be the "bad" guys wondering WTF we're screaming about.

/Would piss on a spark plug to keep it from being remade

I'll be there to see it on the big screen. Shut up and take my money!

It's all about the $$. If they think they can profit from re-hashing an old idea, then they figure why risking on something new? It's sad really.

I did see the new Total Recall, and was disappointed. Sure it looked great, and as some have said any movie that has two hotties like Jessica Beil and Kate Beckinsdale in it... I have to check it out. Other than that I'd give it a resounding "meh".

But, the bottom line is the movie cost $125M to make, and pulled in $199M between domestic and foreign box office. That doesn't even count the DVD or streaming sales. They made money, so they're happy. As long as a director can make a profit, they'll keep letting him re-hash old shiat.

Coming up with new ideas is scary and too risky. Let someone else take that chance. If they are successful, buy it out and milk it. In the meantime, fall back on the "reboot".

No, that can't be real, I'll just check IMDB...

Not to troll but I really liked Total Recall 2012. I thought his presentation of The Colony paid nice homage to Ridley Scott's vision of Los Angeles in Blade Runner.

The gag reel from the Total Recall remake is hilarious, especially for the elevator scene.

If this happens I will reboot you into shark chum. Both of those movies are perfect the way they are for what they are.

Although really there are quite a few stories left to tell with Dr. Banzai. The comics have already done a good job of it.

Saw the trailer. It might - just might - be funny enough to work.

I'm not putting up cash money, though.

Is the Mummy enough of a classic to warrant a remake? I'd rather see an Encino Man remake over that crap.

Even the third "Mummy" flick, as atrocious as it was, is far superior to EM, bro. Come on now.

2012-12-27 11:53:13 PM
I'm cool with more mummy movies. There's already The Mummy (1932), The Mummy's Hand (1940), The Mummy's Tomb (1942), The Mummy's Ghost (1944), The Mummy's Curse (1944), Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy (1955), The Mummy (1959) The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb, (1964), The Mummy's Shroud (1966) and Blood from the Mummy's Tomb (1971) and the three Sommers movies. A few more won't kill us. I have no problem with people trying to reinvent classic Universal horror for new generations.

Just please don't make it suck, Len Wiseman.

Weren't the Brendan Fraiser Mummy movies supposed to be a dark, gritty reboot of the franchise?

This is what happens when Hollywood hears you like dark, gritty reboots.
